I don't quite understand what this is… but I looked for Prey, Kingdom Come Deliverance, and Mutant Year Zero and I'm still disappointed. (Three games over the years where 30 fps made me drop them)

I dropped prey because of the sluggish performance and perceived input lag. The 60 FPS patch it got for the Xbox was a game changer, turned out to be one of my favorite games. Point being, if you can find a way to play it with higher performance than 30 FPS, do it.

The call of duty games don't get near 120fps most of the time. The framerate is highly variable. I mean BLOPS 6 might get into the 100fps+ region, but not for prolonged periods. I am a fan of games that offer unlocked framerates for their 30 and 60fps modes, even if it's just a very mild performance boost like cyberpunk on regular ps5. Wish more would offer 40fps+ modes.

I remember when DF was convinced that PS5 couldn't handle 120fps as well as Xbox Series X

PS6 will definitely have a few 240fps games.

Utilizing future variants of frame gen I expect the majority of PS6 games to be able to hit 240 FPS and a good amount will hit 480 FPS. The new HDMI spec supports 480 Hz at 4K and those sets will be on the market once the PS6 lands.

The reason I'm excited for 480 FPS games is this DF video where it's noted that the motion clarity at that frame rate is on par with what we used to get from CRTs

Super high frame rates will be a key talking point of next gen and Sony will use the PS6 to push folks to upgrade their TV. This is my prediction.

Seeing some of the games in that list, that seems more like 120hz rather than 120fps support, which is still nice.

Edit: My bad, didn't realise the list was tiered.

120fps feels amazing. You can definitely tell the difference with 60fps. Unfortunately, there are huge visual trade offs.

I played several hours of Mutant Year Zero at 60fps on PS4 Pro, there was a way glitching the game in options and the framerate was unlocked, but I don't remember the way now

Not stable 120 fps…
Even on PC stable 120 can be rare and is usually guaranteed only on older games. Even with decent hardware, new releases are more like 90-120. As long as you're in the 90+ range, I don't think it matters that much anyway.

The 120 FPS on PS5 in too many cases requires a steep IQ cost. Pro, on the other hand, definitely made quite a bit of games run very well at 120 FPS with decent IQ.

Why? TVs are mostly 60, some 120 and less 144Hz.
We will need HDMI 2.2 TVs. The 2.1 format does not support 4K240hz. Right now, the best TVs go up to 4K165hz. I would definitely expect 240Hz with FG next gen, or some really simple games running it without FG. However, the install base by 2027 in terms of TVs is going to be tiny.

It's nice when you can just spend some money depending on your priorities and then brute force 120fps in all titles you actually want to play instead of being dependent on some random list a platform holder or publisher curates for you, oh wait

I think 120x2 FG will become the norm with PS6 & Xbox α/ω
Running 240 native is a big waste of compute.

It wouldn't need to be native. 240/480 FPS gaming should be achievable on PS6 via future frame gen tech

Indeed the user base of HDMI 2.2 TV owners will be tiny at the launch of the PS6, but ya gotta start somewhere. At least the stars aligned well enough for there to be ample time to ensure Sony could integrate the new standard into the console. As it's a device meant to have a several year lifespan the user base will grow over time and so will the number of games that take advantage of this feature.

To be honest, I would be happy if developers were releasing games that were maxing HDMI 2.1 spec, with 4K175Hz.

Unfortunately I don't think that's all too likely given the relatively small amount of supported displays and that the current consoles can't achieve that in any meaningful way.

Gonna be exciting next gen to see all this tech find its way into the next gen consoles and TVs. I imagine the PS6 will be THE device used by all TV manufacturers to demonstrate the ultra high refresh rates, other than their stock demo footage of course. Curious to see the motion clarity in person.
