Ghost of Yōtei - Firearms Gameplay | PS5 Games

Not to derail the thread, but what's the general consensus on Rise of the Ronin? It's on sale ATM, and honestly is enticing me more than this and Shadows. Not sure what it is tbh.
I'm playing it just now, technically it has some shortcomings with pop-in, frame rate drops etc. but the combat is solid, a huge amount of stuff to do, not as slick as GoT but more variety.

Depends on how it runs.
If it runs at around native 1440p and 60fps on a base PS5 then I'm perfectly happy with these visuals.
If it's some sub 1080p FSR smearfest with frequent framerate drops then that sucks.

Visually it looks fine, these games are more about the cool vistas and environments than the up close detail (which, admittedly, makes it weird for them to make zoomed in trailers)

Either way, the main reason I'm not excited for this is that it looks like another "more of the same but with 20% more bossgirl energy" sequel by Sony, and I didn't really love the first game to begin with.
GoT/GoY has always been more about style over substance.

That's why people's jaws drop when they show awesome looking colours and art, but go meh when they show sword slashing gameplay clips. And the recent musket gameplay looks even worse than the swordplay. How or why they make the character go in slow mo to reload a gun is weird. Maybe it's improved in GoY, but even the voice syncing to face animations in GoT looked like it came from the 2007 era of 360/PS3.

But for the musket they probably had to do that since it would look idiotic if you reloaded a gun taking 5 full seconds surrounded by enemies attacking you in real time. So they slo mo it to give you a break.

I am 99% certain the slow-mo is being manually triggered by the "concentration" ability during aim and the reload is triggering because the player didn't bother loading the gun before taking aim.

There is a 1% chance they thought automatically slowing down during reload was a cool thing to do as feature. Because it's not. Having a long ass reload animation as a risk/reward mechanic is the whole point of a rifle like that. For now, I'm going to assume that the fool recording it missed the point. In fact, you will see the concentration slow-mo accidentally being triggered several times in the recording where the whole screen flashes grey and resets, even outside of reload.

the combat looks mediocre as expected... some weightless animations, half of the attacks look context sensitive and semi-automated.

Is reloading during slow motion a tactic I've never done, or is it just doing that for this game when you reload?

Max Payne 2 has a special bullettine reload animation that you got after killing 3 people in bullettime. the hourglass meter would slowly turn yellow, and when it's fully yellow it was the sign that your reloads would do this:

That makes sense if it's a special ability doing slo mo. Too bad, these handful of gameplay vids tell gamers nothing. So all they see is so-so visuals, bad pylon AI and slo mo musket shooting.

Just wanted to highlight the biggest reason every move feels jankier than the first game in these videos. The movements are too rapid and too scripted and yet full of mistakes. It's almost like the player is accidentally pressing too many buttons than needed to execute simple moves. The kick off the bridge is a simple move. But in order to get the angle and timing right for the video, there are so many micro adjustments being done. Even an accidental grey flash to slow down time for just a moment. And her arms, the spear and body jerks around like it would for a Mortal Kombat finishing move as you mash through a series of button combinations. No reason for that. It's just a single kick!

Not defending the game animations in general. They are all pretty stiff as is. Just the same as the first in terms of quality. But this guy is making it all worse. I'm starting to get fixated on him so may be I need to take a break! lol

If this was a dlc campaign for Ghost of Tsushima then it would be awesome (if I ignore every woke aspect). But as a ps5 exclusive sequel after 5 years for this price? This is ridiculous, sorry.

IMO, I think the game looks no better than the GoT because later on they'll announce a PS4 port. So that's why the game isnt looking as good as it should be on PS5.

Currently the only "samurai" I'm excited about in Onimusha.

For me both the combat, animation and enemy design so much better compare to GoY.

of course Onimusha ll look better than GoY, one has a male samurai the other dont.
I'm sorry but my issue with GoY has nothing to with if I'm playing as female or male character.

My issue with both GoT and GoY is purely based on the actual gameplay......If someone enjoys Assassin's Creed games might enjoy those two games as well but I'm not one of them.

I have no problem in playing as women too, i just dont like to play ugly women, combat seens on point with GoT and i platinumed that game.

I personally never liked the combat in that game, maybe because I played GoT after playing Sekiro and to me the combat in GoT felt so underwhelming by comparison.

Good catch!
Shame that they are being so coy about it. Things we know so far about wolfie gameplay:
  • After you meet, wolfie does its own thing free roaming somewhere within your proximity
  • Wolfie has a dedicated upgrade tree. No idea what it is, but I would think additional abilities/moves/assist duration etc...
  • You can summon wolfie. Though it doesn't seem to be anytime at will. And may be not even guaranteed that it would show up
  • Wolfie can participate in a standoff side by side with you
  • Wolfie can separate from you and take down enemies in the vicinity (like the GIF)
  • Wolfie can assist for combo kills, like hold enemy in place while you strike them

Now they really need to show some challenging gameplay where you actually need any of this

I think there are other creatures you can summon too...like a bear? My interest in the game largely revolves around this feature so of course they aren't going to say anything about it. ha

I didn't know that you can summon them, but yeah, that would be awesome if you can!
