Kathleen Sebelius, the US cabinet secretary who oversaw the disastrous rollout of President Barack Obamas healthcare law, is resigning.
Ms Sebelius, the health and human services secretary, served a five-year term in which Mr Obamas landmark healthcare legislation turned into a political liability for the White House.
Her resignation comes as the Obama administration seeks to put a series of missteps behind it, but Republicans remain intent on making it a centrepiece of their campaign for November midterm elections.
The HealthCare.gov website for health insurance was beset by technical failures when it was launched in October and the president has been assailed by opponents for making false promises about the law and rewriting its rules.
