Overused and Overpowered...

So, this just popped into my head about a second ago;

I want to take you back as far as you can remember yourself gaming... good. Now...

What team/player/character in ANY video game, do you feel, was the most overused (and perhaps inclusive, overpowered) in the history of gaming?

I'm mostly directing this to sports games and fighters... however... clever insight could unearth a wealth of other thoughts.

Atlanta Falcons in Madden the last 2 years, I don't have a problem playing against them but I would like to play a different team once in a while.

The Honda CR-X Si in Forza. Goddamn, everyone uses that car. That's the only real knock I have on the game, they really left some parts of it badly unbalanced, and the car "classes" which you could upgrade into were a very bad idea.

Hell no. Dan is the undisputed king of clone fights. All-Dan MvC2 fights are what that game was made for. He practically breaks Puzzle Fighter, too. Capcom needs to get Dan Fighter going. In the DS version, the touch screen is always a photograph of Dan you have to autograph before you taunt.

the definition of overused...

IW-80a - Socom II Online
Michael Vick - Madden Football
Toad - Mario Kart 64 - he wasn't even any better than the rest, but I remember all of my friends thinking he was faster for some reason.
Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo - Grant Turismo 1 - why was this, by far, the fastest car in the game?
Odd Job - Goldeneye 007 splitscreen multiplayer

overpowered=cpu guile and bison in the original sf2. tears. literally.

Agreed. They can do all the special moves without even recharging it wasn't funny at all.

Overused character...at least in recent memory is Mario. Baseball, DDR, NBA street, gosh too much Mario that fatass plumber, I'm still waiting for New Super Mario Bros damn it!

The pistol in Halo 1 would definitly go into a overpowered catagory (the only gun in any FPS that I can remember that is equally effective in all 3 ranges)

and actually Halo 2's sniper I would put in that catagory as well. Nothing short of 3 people BR rushing a semi-decent sniper will result in anything differnt then "BOOM HEADSHOTS"

Overused?

You know how many of them I stepped on??? But if I could, would I do it all over again? Heh....... yeah. They were so loveable. :)

Jeremy Roenick and Steve Yzerman in the early NHL Games on the Genesis. The devs probably had them as their favourite players and hence overpowered them...

Kirby in Super Smash Bros.

(I'm probably just a lousy player, but I really miss Kirby's spin-kick when I play SSBM.)

there is no such thing as an overpowered Stevie Y

hmm, most overpowered overused unbalanced thing a bob?

hmm...

damn monkey in time splitters is too friggin short, stop playing as him

stupid F%^%D up Riyo from street fighter 2 on SNES very hard mode.

wish i can play this game again on SNES so i can throw the console out of the window again and again and again...

Roenick moreso than Yzerman. Yzerman had a powerhouse of a team alongside with him, that is why he seemed more lethal.

Rocket Launcher in Quake MP.

Zerg Rush in Starcraft.

Roger Clemens in RBI Baseball (99 mph with perfect control for all 9 innings .. OK)

Devil/Angel in Tekken 2 (once you learn when to use the beam)

I've got a few... but... I wanna share my disdain of the Colts, Titans and Rams of NFL2K1.

It was the birth of online console gaming... and NO ONE played ANYONE but these teams. TERRIBLE.

I got such a wonderful feeling whenever I beat them with my underpowered NY Giants. So wonderful...

...oh, and I hate people who create stacked teams in their seasons of Madden. Having not played Madden 2003, I challenged a friend of mine to game. I told him that I could beat his stacked Pittsburg team with any team in the game... I chose the expansion Texans.

I won 16-13 on a last second field goal. Carr was my hero for the day... (and the hero of our hall... news travels fast).

Oh god, the memories of Huntress/Shaman rushes in pre-expansion WC3... the pain.

How long did that utterly dominate 2v2? Can't remember ever getting around it when used by an experienced team.

With all the Tecmo talk, I can't believe nobody has mentioned Bo Jackson's name.

I'm sick of always having to fight against Kilik, Ken, and Bogart everytime I go to the arcade as well.

Overpowered:

Thurman Thomas in Genesis Madden... he could friggin spin his way out of all tackles almost all the way down the damn field.....

NCAA Basketball for SNES (that mode 7 3d one) pick UNC Tarhills and use the Power Forward "Davidson".

That guy can hit 90% 3's from anywhere past the half court line.

This is still my favorite 5-on-5 basketball game ever...

Yep, I love it too. Just popped it in to make sure I remembered correctly and sure enough, that guy hit five 3 points in a row from half court. I remember being able to beat teams 350 - 30. So cheap :)

Everyone mentions the running backs, but forgets how ridiculous LT was in the Tecmo Bowl games on NES. I think I set the NFL sack record with ~90 sacks with him. Sometimes you could get to the quarterback before he handed the ball off to the running back.

Also the pistol in Halo 1.

In the overpowered category I nominate :

In fact, there he goes!

Tommy Kaira WRX in B class in Forza.

That too. The 22B can compete with it somewhat, but that's not much better since it's essentially the same car. You get swarms of CR-Xes in D and C class, then TK's in B...

I totally forgot about the Tom Chambers dunk animation from the three point line. What a load of crap that was!
