The OT fanart is pretty amazing. But 99% of the stuff that gets thrown around in OW threads (and even threads that have nothing to do with OW) puts the overwatch fan base in the running for "creepiest fanbase of the decade" category.

I don't think I've ever seen a fanbase revolve around this stuff so fast. It's like Sonic fans + tumblr + twitch chat + my little pony + a 13 year old girl's notebook had a baby.

I swear reading this and other OW related topics, it amuses that so many people interested in an online game are seemingly so new to the internet

I mean you're right but some games are REALLY good at getting the juices of artists flowing. Pokemon has always been like this. Splatoon was a recent example. Overwatch joins their ranks. It's all down to:

Amazing art direction and character design would do that. I don't even like FPS but I feel drawn to this game for those very qualities.

I forget who said it on twitter but I saw a tweet that was basically "You know a game franchise is going to be successful when there are mountains of hentai drawn of it and the game isn't even out yet. And yeah, boy both on the NSFW and SFW side the fan art has just exploded. I think that beta was by far the best move Blizzard could have pulled with Overwatch. I would be really interested to see the pre-order numbers before and after the beta started.

I absolutely love the diversity of characters in Overwatch. I guess it makes sense that when you have a diverse cast, it's more likely that talented artists will identify with or just plain like a character and decide to create pieces around them.

It's no surprise that there are a lot of amazingly talented artists out there, some of whom are indeed professionals. It's really cool that this game can draw fans from all walks of life.

I'm all for the waifu crowd having their fun, it's cringey, but that's just one portion of the fanbase.

In the near future, we will all appreciate the cosplays of beautiful Tracers, Mercys and of course, Mei. Don't worry. It's not all gonna be hentai art, guys.
