Overwatch wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2016

I'm still salty about Uncharted 4. Kept feeling like I was ramping up to something that just never came. Didn't care for the story whatsoever.

I was honestly bored for over half that game. Very pretty to look at, not a lot of fun to play though. Overwatch on the other hand is the most a game has hooked me in years. Insanely well deserved!

OW is a great game, but I don't think it deserves to be game of the year. I believe Doom should get that honor.

Regardless, congrats to Blizzard and the Overwatch Team, you folks done good.

Yeah but you don't even really care about the game so why do we care what you think about how it should have been priced? If you only want to play against AI, it's not a game for you. Move on.

Because it does not deserve GOTY, a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like online shooters

This is stupid. Like, insanely stupid.

If Inside won, would you have used the same rhetoric but in reverse? What if I don't like single player puzzle games? Not every game is going to appeal to every person, every game is going to have a genre.

Game of the Year is based on personal preference.

Besides the fact if you think GOTYs should only be awarded to the games with the most appeal... online shooters would have actually won goty awards for the past several years since they sell the best.

I don't think the ocean has the amount of salt this thread contains. I can feel my cholesterol going through the roof just reading.

This is horrible logic. A game of the year should excel at the type of game that it is, and nothing else. It's literally an online shooter, what offline players think of it shouldn't matter

a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like FPS'
a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like RPGs
a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like platformers
a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like MMOs
a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like open world games
a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like Action/adventure games

should I go on with how your point is just ridiculous?

I guess none of you are gonna get it and thats why it won *sigh* I am just gonna shut up now and laugh at this thread.

Or because you're starting to realize how nonsensical your point is so you're backing out now on your own terms so you can convince yourself you "won" this argument.

This is the dumbest statement I've read today. By this metric, no game ever in existence would win any GOTY ever.

There's nothing to "get", it's just a non-sensical argument you're trying to make.

In other words you can't counter the argument, so you are leaving the discussion, all the while trying to act intellectually superior so that your ego still feels good.

I bought an Xbox One to play Overwatch with friends. I've bought multiple other games, but Overwatch is the only one I come back to consistently, and with excitement.

Well deserved.

It's my GOTY. Well deserved, I'd say. No other multiplayer game has captured me like Overwatch has. I'm still firing it up a few times a week for at least a loot box or two.

I haven't won it because people still believe a multiplayer only shooter is worth winning a GOTY award, a game should have a good single player aspect first then multiplayer should be last of the things to add. FFXIV is my favourite game on ps4 clocking over 210 days playtime, but I wouldn't vote it for GOTY just because you can't play it offline *though unlike this game it does have an amazing story

The big development with Overwatch was that it grabbed a wider audience than your typical online game. I have heard on countless occasions,"I'm not into FPS's but I like Overwatch".

Those are arbitrary standards that you're enforcing for no reason.

This isn't even a new thing that I could kinda empathize with because it's hard to come around. Multiplayer shooters have been around for decades.

Really good game, but 4th* on my list out of the nominees.
1. Uncharted 4
2. Titanfall 2
3. Doom
4. Overwatch

*haven't yet played Inside.

Uncharted 4 is possibly my favorite game of this generation. Congrats to Overwatch, a really solid year overall for games.

Well deserved; it's the game I've been played the most and is the most refreshing. I could see why some people may be but salty; but it's the first multi-player shooters that's captured my attention since TF2 and I keep returning too for simple, incredibly polished, gameplay.

Enjoyed Uncharted 4 on a lot of levels, but I've not thought about it since and I'm not sure if it's a game I'm going to replay soon. It's multiplayer failed to capture my interest, but I purchased it mainly for SP anyway.

Well, you're objectively wrong. Having single player or not matter jackshit to something being GOTY or not.

So a GOTY should be a game that is every genre then. Has to balanced for Platformers, Shooters, Strategy ect.

Also by your logic any game that doesn't come with multiplayer is not worthy of a GOTY because it's only balanced for people who like singleplayer games.

Halo 5 didn't even win Best Multiplayer last year (went to Rocket League), but Overwatch gets the big prize for its multiplayer. Tsk tsk tsk.

No game needs to be every genre, but it does need to have single player first then multiplayer second

edit unless its free2play then I can consider the lack of single player at launch fine
