P.T. Released 11 Years Ago Today in 2014

P.T was one of the scariest games I've ever played. Some massive brick shitting when you get stalked by the ghost lady. Really fucking disturbing. Konami should re-release it as a standalone game for a tenner. Would make bank.

This game disrupted gaming big time, and not in a good way.

Nature has only just recently started healing (i.e. walking sim horror games have fallen way off).

Who da fuck cares about this shit. It was a walking sim demo, which never had any significance. If it was not from koji you guys wouldn't even care so stop this cringe mate.

Walking sims were a thing before PT and lets not forget Amnesia. Capcom did their thing with RE7 but the remakes are way more popular.

The hype for this shit always evaded me. I played that demo once and deleted it and thought it was fun enough for the spectacle. Lo and behold, it influences a decade plus of braindead walking sim Hide & Seek Horror.

Terrible legacy, those games blow.

Seriously

I'm the biggest SH fan ever and this game getting cancelled was gaming Armageddon for me, but holy fuck move on

Fellas, I don't think you understand. I was more afraid of walking down the hallway of PT than I was to jump off an 11-meter platform. And I knocked the air out of my lungs when I hit the water at a bad angle, whereas I knew the worst that could happen in PT was a jump scare.

It was seriously that good.

Love this demo. It was a playable teaser and showed what to expect. Heard it would be first and 3rd person, too. Not sure if that was true but sounded good to me.

This thing inspired a lot of games after it was shitcanned. Some good, some bad.
Walking sims can be good, but too many of them with really not much inspiration can be tiresome.

So how is Visage? It looks quite decent.
Its definately better than this looping halway demo that only got any recognition because it was Kojima's name attached to it and people were craving for a new SH. The hype for this ill never understand, it was literally a 20 min demo with some noises in the background and somehow people thought Kojima could make a whole game based on that. ANY game is better than PT. Its a looping halway demo, there was nothing in there, no substance, no story and people still think like this was going to be something good. Literally any indie horror game is better than PT and Visage was much grander and spookier. It was an actual game first and foremost. Outlast already did the creepy corridor running away from danger psychological horror way before PT.

No it didnt. PT was not the first of its kind first of all, the only reason this demo got any traction was because it had Kojima's name and it was ultimately what got him fired finally. Its a looping 4 halways demo, get over it people.

Still the best horror experience ever made. It's probably better as a demo, as the full game would have diluted the experience.
Still have my ps4 with PT on it. No idea is there is any demand for these anymore?

Doesn't matter if it wasn't the first of its kind. Nobody cared about walking sim horror games until PT put them on the map.

Penumbra, Amnesia, etc. were niche games.

After PT demo came out, we got so much garbage we should have never got, because other devs wanted to ride the wave. Wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but survival horror games essentially went on hiatus (since everybody was trying to go after this type of low-hanging fruit).

It's a crappy genre.

Haven't played Madison, would you say it's as good as Visage in your opinion?

I don't think so, no, but not by a lot, more like 0.5 to 1 points less than it if Visage is an 8 game. Visage played with the environment and kept you tense little by little, which was perfect. Madison exaggerates it by quite a lot(less environmental, more monster popup), and I'm not kidding when I say A LOT. There are moments where the game just spams you the cheap scare popup in your face every 2 minutes until you progress/solve the puzzles, which can take a bit depending on your solving skills. It is a game NOT recommended for the weak-hearted individual, and you may get bored of getting spammed with scares, however if you do enjoy them and you like getting scared like I do, you'll like the game. The puzzles were ok in difficulty with a few exceptions that were just stupidly obtuse, but Visage had that issue as well at some point. Also just an fyi, no fov option and it has some limited motion-sickness settings, but overall it felt a bit wobbly when you're moving, so take care on that if you have issues with motion. I'd get it on sale tho, it's very short ~5 hours.

Luto is a lot less scary, but it's the best out of all 3 when it comes to messing with you through narrative/environment. It has some absolute genius moments. So Visage > Luto > Madison.

Visage, Madison, Luto and these are just some at the top of my head that I played recently. You have no idea what the fuck ure talking about.
Those are good games certainly but not a single one of those games have had the influence and impact on the horror genre the way P.T. had back in 2014. That's what I was talking about.

The demo wasnt what had influence. Kojima did especially at that time since he had hes feud with Konami and everyone was sucking his ass.

P.T. even has an entry on the British Film Institute page, I have never ever seen another horror game get such recognition outside gaming sources

And the funny thing is, is that P.T. is not even a game but a playable teaser as the name indicates, and it's still much more influential than any of the horror games that came after it 😂

BS, like it or not the demo itself holds the merits for the gazillion of P.T. clones that came afterwards even Visage is a direct P.T clone lol

Again, it's because of the name Kojima. If some random dude made PT and never saw the day of light, nobody would give a shit. Also there were a lot of great horror games before it. Just because Visage is good, doesnt mean PT or its clones redefined the genre, like at fucking all.

Under your logic Amnesia which was made by a bunch of nobodies at the time would have never become a classic.

While I think it's true the demo was boosted by Kojima and the fact that it was a new silent hill entry, the demo holds it's own in itself, I have never played a demo before or after with that level of dread and mindfuckery having you at the edge of your seat everytime you cross the door to see the same hallway but in a more twisted setting. It was way too good to be an indie and also Kojima had never made an horror game before he had no experience on the genre.

So I think you are not being fair on the qualities of the demo itself.

And it's still officially unavaliable nowadays, despite its influence in horror gaming. But Konami has changed, bro.

Believe me, a lot of people cared about Amnesia, specially youtubers. And they had lots of clones (most of them mediocre though). If we have to think they were niche just because they weren't on console at its time, what about Outlast then? Anyway, Amnesia and Penumbra are not walking sims, even less the former, with resource management, lights and shadows mechanics, stealth system and the sanity system. Otherwise, what about games like Clock Tower? Is Clock Tower a walking sim now, specially the two first entries? Walking sims are games like Dear Esther, Layers of Fear, Firewatch, What Remains of Edith Finch and Devotion.

P.T clones were mostly crap because it was just a playable teaser and its formula alone didn't hold up for full games. Most of indie developers (like Bloober) didn't understand that. This and...so many horror games copying the same story (like it happened with SH2, hell, even Konami is still doing it since Homecoming).

About Visage, it's mostly a great game. I say mostly because its ending is a little 'eeh' and one of the episodes feels rushed (I personally believe something happened in the development). Besides that, it's the best follower of P.T along Devotion by faaaar. Because it expanded nicely its formula with basics of survival horror genre along a memorable atmosphere and aesthetics. The story uses the P.T basis (again), but I think its anthology structure give more interesting story bits.

Your point doesn't stand.

You say people were excited for the demo only because of the Kojima name. And im telling you it had the opposite effect on me, i went into the demo expecting a negative experience because of that. But it still impressed the hell out of me.

Which means the demo stands on it's own despite the name. It would still be just as popular by reviews and word of mouth.

I'm not going to debate this nonsense again. Read the above. You're wrong.
