"All the new ones are digital! Gipsy something is analog, it is nuclear!"

The fuck does that even mean?

That was a laugh out loud moment for the audience given our whole studio was there.

The implication was that
the more basic and "primitive" design of Gipsy Danger was of benefit, granting immunity to the Kaiju EMP attack.

In reality,
Gipsy Danger would have to be completely powered by steam, pulleys, and levers in order to avoid issue.

I just assumed it wasn't a traditional EMP, and focused on whatever the new Jaegers use specifically.

Or since Gypsy Danger is nuclear, she would already have some form of EMP shielding.

Well, that was obviously the intent, but they butchered the framing, dialogue, and science around it.
"Analog vs digital"
is nonsense.

If they had more specifically depicted and called it out as
an attack on the Jaeger power source, then they could have more easily just have said "Striker Eureka uses batteries, but Gipsy Danger uses combustion(?), we are good to go!".

More at the link since they might be somewhat spoilery.

So could someone please explain this part for me?

the last part of the movie where both the Gypsy Danger and the Kaji survive the nuclear explosion, how can it do that and also why does the Kaji get killed by Gypsy Danger so easily? Last thing is that they used the Nuclear Engine to create an atomic explosion, that wouldn't work as it would meltdown right?

Is there a pic of the Jaeger?

The pilot's suit in the film also looks suspiciously close to Master Chief's, just red.

Chalk the nuke survival up to it being a movie. The water pressure and the ocean itself might have dampened the blast a little bit, but there's no way either of them should have been able to survive. The reason it gets killed so "easily" compared to the others is that Gipsy uses its vortex chest core thing to burn it to death point-blank. That may not immediately seem like enough, but if you look close, it actually burned it so hard that the flames had nearly ripped Slattern in half.

I get that Cherno and Crimson are boss, but...

now that I'm thinking about it they're crazy impractical compared to the others. It almost seems like they were specialized to target earlier Kaiju rather than being the jacks-of-all-trades that Gipsy and Striker are. Striker, especially - when you're trying to take out big baddies with hardened carapaces, sharp teeth and not much else it seems like size, speed and punches are all you need.

Anyone else notice that Eureka's fight really early on was done so quick that
the Kaiju didn't get a single hit in
?

That being said, I'd love to see fights where they're at an advantage - anything smaller than Knifehead looks like it'd get curbstomped to shit by Cherno. Likewise, I feel like Crimson could have been damn near unstoppable
underwater. The flexibility of the limbs, head-mounted arc rocket reactor (fire-breathing dragon, motherfuckers) and the blades having a higher degree of functionality compared to trying to pull underwater punches like Striker Eureka lead me to think that, with some extra armor and a better neural handshake, Crimson would have been an absolutely perfect counter to the Category 5, Slattern. Think about it. Clawblades to dismember the tentacles, use the improved leg structure to juke and eventually mount Slattern, bladepunches to the back to tire it out, and then finally give it a kiss of death with the mouth's reactor blast.

Tell me that happens in the sequel.

Uh.... That's exactly what they are? Stacker Pentecost even said this very thing in the movie.

That makes sense and I'm dumb for not noticing it, but didn't they ever consider that more Kaiju might come through the portal? Ones that weren't super specialized?

If you make a weapon to kill lions with a limited budget, do you expect you'll need to it to kill sabretooth tigers and plan for it? They didn't think they would get bigger. 'Animals' don't suddenly get bigger so specialized stuff would have worked.

Every Kaiju that came through was different, and as a result the Jaegers had to be built differently to adapt. This is the reason why there are so many different Jaegers.

Striker Eureka is the only Mark 5 and I guess the first that could be considered "jack of all trades".

Good theory, and I think you'd be right if
Slattern
were a much weaker/smaller Kaiju with the same design. However, the motherfucker survived a
nuclear detonation
. You're basically putting up a level 25 pikachu against a level 50 Gyarados.

Its at around 9 million so far in Japan (3.1 million 2 weekends ago).

Nice. It's going to make over 400 million and I remember a handful of people in this thread or another thread saying it wouldn't make 250 million worldwide. Just a ridiculous amount of negativity from some people for whatever reason.

It will be a crime if there is no Directors Cut showing off the exploits of the other 3 teams while Gypsy Danger was on break. I'm still really disappointed with how the other teams were handled, and how little screen time they got, given the attention they were getting and what we were all hoping for.

Judging by how poor the series 1 Gipsy is in standing, I seriously doubt that thing can stand on its own without some stupid support stand or something.

Looks freaking cool though.

Got my Shinkawa poster signed by Ron Friggin' Perlman at FanExpo today (I'll post a pic later). He was super nice, and he did something awesome as well: he asked me if I wanted him to put a Chau quote from the movie on the poster. I said yes, and he just wrote
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH"

What a god-tier human being.
