This is the problem here when 3rd party games bomb on Nintendo systems. It's always the same thing. Either the effort or market wasn't there, or the previous games weren't there so the current iteration didn't sell because of that and so on. It can't possibly be that the audience is not interested in those type of games in that system, no way.

I think you're kind of missing the point. The audience that could be interested in the underperforming games isn't on the system for the reasons that you seem to be complaining about - either the effort wasn't seem as big enough to bring an audience, or the previous game wasn't good so people left, etc. There are many reasons for the userbase for a game not being there if it fails.

I highly doubt that there's a significant portion of the system's userbase that would buy third party games, but not if they're made for that system. Or some kind of magical factor that makes people dislike 3rd party games for Nintendo's systems.

Yeah, UKIE only supply % for Top 4 SKUs. As ME3 had 6 SKUs we're most likely missing the PS3 and PC CEs.

So they're amalgamating the 360 normal and CE SKUs in that 73%, but the other numbers listed are single-SKU?

It wouldn't make a massive difference, but worth noting.

Microsoft really need to make an effort with continental Europe next time round. They can afford to ignore Japan if they increase their foothold in Europe.

I don't know how Final Fantasy XIII-2 ended up eighth with that competition.

I don't see too much competition for Final Fantasy XIII-2, it looks like a very slow month.

Final Fantasy XIII debuted at the first position on March 2010 against God of War III and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Playstation domination. Damn.

I'm talking about things that I've seen people say on forums when 3rd party games bomb on Nintendo systems.
And it's also valid in a lot of these cases, which again have to be looked at individually.
Not the point I was trying to make and surely you mean Japanese third party handheld support.
That wasn't really a response to you personally, but no I won't make that distinction since the vast majority of significant third party support comes from Japan and will likely keep doing so this generation as well.
Not if you have an iOS device....but that's OT.
Yuck. (I have an Iphone 4S.)

That's precisely what I was saying, too low even if people hated FF13.

I know Twisted Metal isn't that popular in Europe, but debuting at 49 in Germany is just crazy. Takes a lot to make Snake Eater look good.

I sometimes get the feeling that boxed PC games sell more in Germany than all other western countries combined. It's no wonder that they (and we Austrians) have a different perspective on things like Steam "saving" the PC market.

Something is off with that chart, I'm pretty sure Sims 3: I Rampljuset and Sims 3: Showtime is the same game. How can it be on two spots at the same time?

Compare these two covers...

Lol. I wonder what made them release the game in Scandinaiva now. It was released other places years ago.

It was released in NA several years ago, but I'm pretty sure this is just the game finally getting it's PAL release for the whole region and not just Scandinavia. It's just that it didn't make any other charts. I guess PQube were able to pick it up for cheap.

Usually end of March for aDeSe, a bit later for AEVSI.

It's interesting to note that 2011 was probably the first year in the Nordic region where PC wasn't the lead platform for retail software units.

MASS EFFECT 3 rocketed to the top of the UK charts to become the biggest No.1 of 2012 so far. It sold almost four times as many copies SSX managed during its release week at No.1, and the EA space shooter RPG comfortably outsold its two predecessors’ week-one sales combined.

Microsoft really need to make an effort with continental Europe next time round. They can afford to ignore Japan if they increase their foothold in Europe.

It is called preference. People's preference usually dont change over time and MS/SONY have very strong brand loyalty. People in NA prefer the x360. In Europe and ASIA the ps3 . Unless MS has a bad x720 launch US will remain loyal to Xbox . Same goes to PS4 with EU/ASIA

Sony had a pretty poor European launch with the PS3.

Sony didn't do a good job with EU release. Cut version and delayed. Not surprised but I'll still get it next week.
I doubt that's got anything to do with it, the mass market gamers would have no either about the cuts or tiny delay nor would they care.
It's a marketing/relevancy question.

Have any mainland European sales charts come out yet? The PS3 version of Mass Effect is ahead of the 360 version in all the non UK pal charts right?

It was 45th in the January chart. Certainly, it hasn't fallen from such a big debut XD

And it's nice to have finally something concrete about Vita's software debut. Finally.
And so, almost a 2:1 ratio for launch, if we consider a 50k first week for the hardware, as hinted various times.

To get some perspective, Syndicate released last week of Feb and was estimated at <11k, so RE:R probably only sold maybe 10k or so in Feb (a large proportion of that being the first week of Feb, the only week it charted).

Basically, it would have already doubled its first week. Good!

...err...at least... XD

However, the Finnish chart is always...uhm, how can I say it?... interesting.

BIU Update with more data including estimates for online/browser games and DLC/microtransactions (?) for Germany in 2011: http://www.biu-online.de/de/fakten/marktzahlen.html

If all mobile phones sales are digital, then PC + home consoles + handhelds digital unit sales were around 5.4 million units.

Thanks Road, UK, DE, and JP markets were really close last year;

UK: 55.5m
JP: 53.9m
DE: 52.3m

Japan excludes minimal PC software units though.

German retail software units were 94% of the UK market in 2011. With the UK now being 30% down YTD there's every possibility that the weekly German market is currently bigger than the weekly UK market. Maybe the German chart will start getting as many responses as the UK chart now :p

Thanks Road, finally an update. :)

It's funny how the industry managed to sell more copies of mobile games but shrink the revenue at the same time. ("Spiele für Handys und Smartphones")

The average price decreased from 2,53 € to 2,07 €.

They found a nice market gap, but this doesn't seem like the future if you ask me (considering all these "smartphones are going to kill handhelds" discussions).

It was released in NA several years ago, but I'm pretty sure this is just the game finally getting it's PAL release for the whole region and not just Scandinavia. It's just that it didn't make any other charts. I guess PQube were able to pick it up for cheap.

Ah ok, i see, thanks for the info :) I saw a picture of the cover, and it had the old Playstation 3 logo on it, but also a PEGI rating. But maybe this was just a mock up, or that the game was originally planned to be released in Europe earlier, but was canceled for some reason.

I wonder how much of this is a reflection of Germany's relatively robust economy compared to the rest of the EU.

What's Out Today? w/e March 16th, 2012

Electronic Arts' urban football series returns this week in the revamped FIFA Street.

The game steps away from pitch tactics and focuses on the skills and tricks. It's the first FIFA Street title since FIFA Street 3 in 2008.

Meanwhile, Rising Star releases two BIT.TRIP compilations for Wii and 3DS, bringing the acclaimed WiiWare and DSiWare titles together for retail.

Also out this week is Inazuma Eleven 2 (Nintendo) and Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle (Reef Entertainment).

Week 10 for Germany, Week 11 for UK. Presumably Nordic release was the same as Germany.
Ouch then. I thought it was some sort of limited release with retailers breaking street date. I always assumed TM was going to do better in Europe than the US.
