PAL Charts - Week 38, 2015

Until Dawn loosing steam. Look like Word of Mouth is not helping much or there is not much Word of Mouth for it.

Here's one of our resident xboners belittling a sony exclusive sales position, rather than talk about the new Forza selling less than the previous version, or indeed, its spin off series from last year.

Maybe 'Word of Mouth' can save it.

Huh? Xboner? How do you come to this conclusion? I only see him interested in sales discussions, since a long time.
Your post tells more about you than you wanted to say about noobie.

The Destiny numbers might be skewed a bit because of people who opted to upgrade online. All I know is that my friends list is full of people playing Destiny both on PS4 and X1.

Isnt it the same type of sport, just different rules? If so, i would think that both things attracts many of the same fans.

Do you have an example of that?

In my experience people are rarely fans of two similar sports unless they have a local franchise of the less liked sport but none of the preferred one.

Example, Canadian Football and American Football (NFL).

I'm surprised that there are people willing to buy PES one week before FIFA.

Different preferences. Some of those, myself included, probably won't be buying FIFA until a price drop next year sometime, if at all. It became my preferred football series again after last year.

I'm actually surprised PES still survived the horrors of 2008-2013 mind you. They were just bad games and was timed perfectly with FIFA getting good as well.

Yeah, I hear there's a huge overlap between Basketball and Netball fans.

What? Different rules makes them different sports, with completely different fan bases.

But you have to consider people who sold the game and shared copies in homes.
It hasn't even been a week yet. How many people do you reckon sold the game in under a week? How many people do you realistically think have logged into it on a different account?

Like, I agree, those are reasonable assumptions but not when the title just came out.

Sim racing glory days is over, I guess it won't sell as much as GT5.
Worldwide I expect it to sell less than GT5 and comfortably more than GT6 (assuming it's even halfway decent release).

In PAL, until GT6, the trend for GT was actually upwards I believe, so if GT6 was a true outlier (which I believe it was) then GT7 could still do very well in PAL region, particularly as it'll be riding the popularity of PS4.

I think the genre declining is a real thing. Forza will struggle more because of the lower sales of the Xbox One and too many Forza games, but I can't see GT hitting 10 million again. It doesn't feel nearly as mainstream as it did when GT5 was released.

It has way more "steam" behind it. Combined with bundles, it will surely reach 10 million. It's the definition of a console racer.

I highly, highly, doubt it. If the genre's in decline, then there's no way GT7 is going to reach that mark.

I highly, highly, doubt it'll be better in terms of Metacritic average.

It's possible , it's the first GT game on PS4 and PS4 is doing really well in Europe .
If it comes out at xmas time add in some extra bundles .

This is their second best territory.

It's sales are inline with the Order which is celebrated for bombing.
I'm not denying it's bombed, although it's a bit early to tell. I think the genre being stale is one of the reasons for poor sales.

The fact that The Order was single player only meant that it had no legs at all, the second hand market cannibalised sales very quickly.

The Order sold over 360k in EU.

GT7 sales are going to be dictated partly by how well it is received critically. If it packs in near photo-realistic graphics, even further improved car handling mechanics, and has a comprehensive selection of all premium model cars, it could be a massive hit.

Think the biggest hurdle GT7 to hit 10 million would have is the slow Japanese PS4 takeup compared to the PS3. I'd bet it'll still hit the around 5 million mark in Europe if it comes out in a couple of years.

GT5 did not really sell that much in Japan that the ROTW can't make up .

i guess GT7 will be big mainly because Ps4 userbase will be HUGE when it launches...

I mean Console will sell over 100m by some years now, and GT has huge fanbase so who knows about that 10m sales being possible...

GT5 did it and in such a much smaller userbase.

I don't think I'm going to buy that, it's MHO.
GT7 would likely ned PAL to cover dropping sales in Japan/US but if there's one racing sim with any chance of 10 million it's GT7, and to be fair with PS4 proving more popular than PS3 it's not that outlandish a thought.

Myself I think, assuming it's a good entry in the franchise, that it will hit around 8 million. The drop will be in Japan and US. That said though it's not that hard to see it matching GT5 given how popular PS4 is and in particular how popular PS4 is in PAL which is where most console racing sim sales now come from.

Forza has legs though, it will be sitting in the lower end of the charts for the next 9 months. Forza has not hit number one yet this generation. If Destiny was not out this week it might have got it.

Forza always has legs because its usually the main bundle or pack in game for MS. My running joke is I have never paid for FM, I always get it free with the console. ;)

I think the biggest benefit to GT is the rise of Playstation in new territories, places that haven't been burned out on the franchise. Someone posted a chart the other day where more PS4s have been sold in Asia than PS2s in the same time frame, the fall of Japan has coincided with a rise in the rest of Asia.

Unique players. Better way of estimating numbers than a bunch of forum members guessing them..

Really?

UK numbers seem clear, below 38k, over 27k. Much more clear picture than extrapolating online rankings numbers. We will see next NPD, for more accurate WW numbers considering XB sells most on these two markets.

Yeah, didn't Yoshida tweet something out about Saudi Arabian sales too?

Wow that's awesome.

Get a grip, there is nothing wrong with what noobie said. He isn't belittling the sales, stop being so defensive.

Thank god you showed him his place without revealing your own "preference" in process.

Was there ever any confirmed sales numbers for GT6 since that '2.5m' or whatever it was thread turned out to be bs? I'm interested to see where they eventually ended up.

Tbh though, I'd be very surprised if Forza 6 sold over 2m. Not unless there is some aggressive bundling for it in the near future... which obviously isn't out of the question given past history.

Well, it is actually an incredibly weird post he made considering Until Dawn is a game we were all convinced was going to bomb big time pre-release, and putting it alongside Gears of War in his quote makes it at least look like a typical console warrior post tbh.

I highly, highly, doubt it'll be better in terms of Metacritic average.

Oh man... is this really where we're at now?

I said a few pages back. GT7 can push VR ( if will have the support for that ) and vice versa. First racing game on console in VR will be huge.
