The final week of the year sees EA’s 'FIFA 14' (-31%) remaining at No1, taking a 5th week since launch as the top-selling software title, one more week than ‘FIFA 13’ last year – the difference being that ‘FIFA 14’ claimed the Christmas No1 this year (last week) whereas last year it was taken by ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ in week 51, 2012. Activision’s 'Call of Duty: Ghosts' remains at No2 (-24%) but is less than 2000 units behind ‘FIFA 14’ and has also taken 5 weeks at No1 since launch. Ubisoft’s 'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag' (-15%) remains at No3 having taken the top spot once back at launch (wk44) but has never been out of the Top 5. EA’s ‘Battlefield 4’ remains at No4 for a 3rd consecutive week (-11%) having debuted at No2 in the same week as ‘Assassin’s Creed IV’. Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ has been climbing for the past 3 weeks and moves back in to the Top 5 at No5 (-5%).

Wonder where the 360 crowd is going to move. Looks like the PS3 crowd has moved to PS4 faster (probably with a few 360 owners). The 360 audience might be a bit like the Wii audience, no brand attachment, only care about FIFA, COD and the cheapest console.

If that does turn out to be the case, it's bad news for everyone.

True but they will have to move eventually for dat CoD and Fifa.

That's years down the line and whose to say they'll move to consoles? They might move to tablets that fully support controllers? We're already seeing controller for tablets being released...

I'd hate to see what will become of the UK console market if that were to ever happen.

Wii U & Vita bundles are pointless. Nobody cares.

3DS/2DS HW numbers will be interesting as the games over xmas havent sold.

MCV unveiled 3DS is the n°1 console in UK in 2013, I believe 3DS and 2DS didn't sell bad at all during Holidays (we also had 2DS alone as the biggest selling console in one week "confortably"). But I'm much more interested in how things will look in tbe first months of the year.

It's surprising how quickly the PS crowd has moved on.

Which is why the software sales are so concerning. People seem to buy the hardware for 1 or 2 games and thats it.

While it's nice to see, is it because PS4 software is doing well or PS3 is selling badly?

I'd be surprised if the PS3 was doing badly, especially with all the £99 deals that were cropping up over the past week or so...

Then again, PS3 software sales don't seem all that great....

Looking at the top 40 combined chart Angry Birds > Super Mario 3D World. Wii U is doing really badly in the UK.
Wii U is doing really badly in the UK, therefore everything on it is doing badly. Not surprising at all. Any potential Wii U hold-outs in the UK, you should wait until next year for super-crazy-bomba pricing. I wonder how close it'll get to £100.

I think some of the PS3 multi plats are selling lower than usual because people are getting them on the PS4 instead. I expected it to happen around the time Destiny and Watchdogs released not straight away.

The market is dominated by big budget console and triple A releases this time of the year - it will always looks way worse for system that dont recieve these kind of releases. Ubisoft, Activision and Co. are investing millions in developing and marketing these titles, of course there is much less room to breath for smaller releases.

A 3DS/Vita title just isnt to recieve the amount of promotion, cross marketing and co. that the big fall releases are getting - especially not with most consoles being bundled with AC,Fifa,BF4 or CoD. These alone are like 15-20 spots.

3DS Tie Ratio
America: 3,75
Other: 3,40
Japan: 3,36

Worldwide: 3,50

As of September 2013.

Should be higher by now, especially with Pokemon.

Nintendo software does quite good, problem is probably the lack of cheap shovelware btw. lack of western support with mid-tier games. These games moved to smartphones/tablets, NDS had tons and tons of such games.

Western gaming tends to cheap mobile or big AAA games.

is the offer to get PS4 version only $10 applicable in UK also?

I don't think the crazy super sales will happen though. Last year Nintendo simply purchased all the unsold WiiU's back from the retailers and reported it as a negative sale in their quarterly report. Allowing ridiculous sales to happen may damage the WiiU brand.

Brand loyalty is overrated. People will move on when the new consoles offer compelling experiences at mass market prices. Whether they upgrade to PS4/XBO/WiiU, their loyalty will be to the games and experience, not the console maker.

The Wii U brand is already damaged beyond repair in the UK. Nintendo would have no choice if retailers decided to do crazy price slashing, we've already seen a few sales that are way below MSRP.

Xbox one for sure bro!

I refuse to buy any PS4 games till the prices come down from such ridiculous heights. £49.00 for KZ or BF4? They must think were suckers. Not one single price drop since launch, and once you compare them to US prices then the true insult begins to show.
I'm sure PS4 games would be a lot higher if they were cheaper.

Whilst I mostly agree with you I've still seen a lot of adverts for Mario and Tearaway, although that later is often shown in general Vita adverts. Much the same could be said about other Nintendo games, most of their big titles this year have had a fair few adverts even if it's not on the same scale as some of the examples you've mentioned.

Tearaway has been bundled with the Vita quite a lot too and I expect the same can be said about Mario 3D World but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Same happens at the start of every gen. They know people will want games to go with their shiny new console so they can pretty much charge what they want. It won't last more than a few months.

Huh that's strange than why aren't they buying any software.

Why are people saying the PS crowd is moving on and not just that the ps4 is more popular than xone in UK. Funny too when you consider that the claim has been that MS is supplying more stock to the US and UK because ps4 is never on shelves and xone is and yet the past few weeks in the UK have shown that ps4 is indeed outselling the xone. Spain showed the same no ps4s on shelves but still outselling the xone.

Still hard to believe MS might lose the UK to sony, they have it in the palm of their hand but the PS4 seems to be getting ready to take over.
Most PS4 owners are people who previously owned a PS3 so the PS3's software sales will only get lower as PS4 software increases.

Wow at teh Killzone drop, even in EU that has to be pretty bad...

It will probably be the opposite in the US, it would be a momumental victory for Sony if they somehow won Dec. with barely any units to sell to consumers. MS has flooded store shelves with XB1's to make sure there were enough in the market. Their hope is that anyone that might have been on the fence, would just grab the available system and the more little Jonny's that grabed one, means more little Timmy's would grab one as well to play with Jonny. Good strategy.

Actually, despite Nintendo titles selling undeniably well in general, they lost the biggest amount of software sales by far, due to Touch Generation's disappearance. Much, much, much more than anyone (third parties should currently be slightly higher compared to DS at the same time after the console's release in Japan).

Obviously, eShop only titles not counted is a factor as well (and that's something we'll have to remember for every console from now on, of course).

Damage the WiiU brand? lolwut

I did consider one when the next gen DRM rumours were abound, and love remote play but PS4 came through.

I would consider one again in a firesale. Haven't played any Wii games so missed out on Zelda and Mario's 50th iteration of the same game people seem to love to death.

Anyway, amazing that Knack is beating out Dead Rising 3 when one of them was made in Cernys spare time. Impressive start for PS4 in UK.

Slightly higher in Japan but way way down in the west. Western publishers also made huge amounts of money trough Touch Generation games on DS (Cooking mama, Imagine games etc.)
