I think their aim was always to reveal it on 1.16.
Making this kinda ad takes a lot of time, it's prob months in the making, it's not like they did it and moved along.

Could also be why Genki knew exactly how it'll look.

It's also similar to Switch, reveal in October, two months later a full reveal in January, and then release two months after that.

YouTube numbers do point towards it being interesting to mainstream. That is hard part.

I guess hardest part for Nintendo would be to keep interest/ momentum of Switch 1 going. Console / Mario Kart being iterative could be a part of that strategy.

Just like how Fortnite keeps trucking along.
I was talking about the video title, he said that the message is not clear and is the Wii U situation all over again, when the video title is “Switch 2 reveal video” also…

There’s no room for confusion this time.

Could still be a staggered launch and not simultaneous globally, since the tour also appears to be organized that way.

America in April, Europe in May, Asia in June.

The last date on the list I saw was June 1st, with two TBA dates in Hong Kong and Taipei. That seems to line up with a worldwide release sometime in June with it possibly coming out later in China/Taiwan, which have some fairly big differences from the rest of the global market.

Put the spliff down my friend. You think it's gonna sell over 100m in 3 years?
the moment this thing's price is revealed as 400/449, its going to kneecap the sales of it big time.
all of the best selling consoles of all time- PS2, DS, Switch, Wii, PS4, etc. All have the one thing in common of being cheap as fuck. All under or around 300, either at launch or over time.

The 100m club is only for consoles below 350. I said what I said. I'm willing to bet that the PS5 will get to 80m or 90m EOL but won't be touching 100m like its previous consoles due to simply being too expensive for most of the world.

Why are you all so guaranteed it will sell like hotcakes?

They are presenting it in a horrible manner

First game they show looks like a Switch 1 game

Then they show that you can play Switch 1 games on it

Mainstream folks just might think it's just an iterative update on a device they've had for 8 years, and think why do I need this?
My answer would be that we know the market, you don't. Clearly. That said, we could be wrong and you could be right. It'll be interesting to find out.

Good point. Nintendo barely cut prices too, which means it will probably stay that price for most of its life cycle. I still think it can hit 100m though. Especially at $400. About PS5, I would have agreed, but I think GTA6 along with its first price cut will help it hit 100m.

Most of the people who are buying GTA6 already own a PS5, though yeah I can see them gaining another 15-20 m from that.

but nothing more. 400 dollars + tarriffs + price of games, its becoming too much. A lot of the casual audience buys in because these consoles used to be a nothingburger of an investment, like how DS was 150 dollars, or the PS2 dropping to 99 post PS3 which is what pushed it over the edge to become the best selling ever. Prices add up and people aren't willing to spend more than what they're comfortable with, as evidenced by that PS5 Pro backlash.

We've seen it time and time again. PS1 crushing Saturn with "299". PS4 doing the exact same with Xbox one with 399 (and then dropping later over time). Xbox getting the upper edge because of the 360's cheaper price. Systems like Neo Geo bombing because of the outrageous price. DS also crushing PSP because it costed 2/3rds (and even then the PSP still sold well because that was also cheap) And of course Switch winning the whole gen because of the 300 dollar price.

Price determines so much more than people here admit. Not everyone has the insane money & passion to invest in gaming like we do.

Because mainstream folks want to play a new Mario Kart game from Nintendo on a new Nintendo platform.

The WiiU problem wasn't just that it looked like an accessory, it betrayed everything the Wii stood for.

Where Wii stood for simplicity, simple controls, very understandable concept, an input device that was like a remote, and multiplayer fun. WiiU was everything and the kitchen sink in one strange device, for one person, and nothing used it that much gameplay wise. It was a 180.

I'd definitely prefer a June launch to September, which is what I speculated earlier!
