[PAL] Recently released box arts (dial-up warning: lots of images)

DQ8 was the first game they self-published (back in April), and I think that KH2 will be the next. It seems that they're no longer going to hawk stuff around to anyone who feels like publishing it anymore (usually Atari, Ubisoft or EA).

I thought DQ8 was published by Ubisoft in several countries. Here Germany it was published by Koch Media, without their logo on the game.

To be honest, I think they're sort of trapped in a vicious circle. They might want to release more, but the hardcore market will always import from the US because localising games for PAL always takes longer (if they're translating them into European languages) and because they don't like PAL conversions (even though they seem to have got it sorted out now from what I saw of DQ8) and largely because they always have, which means lower PAL sales and so they choose not to bring things over. Guess that's a problem when you make a niche type of game.

Of course, if they could localise everything simultaneously, it'd be less of an issue, but we've had this discussion before on GAF, lots of times. :D

i dont agree. on one side, they are denying good games like grandia III (which predessecors came out in europe) and front mission (the third game didnt bomb back then) and on the other side, they are eager to get shovelware stuff like unlimited saga, samurai fencer musashi and drag-on dragoon out here.

its a cruel world.

They've probably got different distributors in different countries (given that there's very few, if any pan-European distributors) a bit like Sega Europe, but they made a big fuss in the UK trade press (MCV, etc) that DQ8 was their first self-published game.

That it is. Then again Front Mission 5 seemingly isn't even coming out in the US, so heaven knows how badly FM4 must have sold there to make them not release FM5.

when was this announced? I must have missed this one.

It never was confirmed but a French website mentioned last month that there was going to be a new Ridge on the PSP but NAMCO hasn't said anything.

Publishing and distributing aren't really the same thing. Ubi Soft handled distribution for DQ8 in many countries, and they just announced the same deal for the release of KH2 when it comes out this fall. A few instances:

Kingdom Hearts II
Final Fantasy XI
Dragon Quest VIII

Hell yeah, we'll get the japanese Boxart :D :D :D

Edit: Ok, it's slightly different than the japanese, but who cares :D

Wonder why they abandoned the ring... oh well, not that I'm complaining.

The way they F'up US covers is not even funny. This cover looks so much better than ours where some genius has the main character exploding out of a crowd of zombies with a TV.

Yep, they're publishing those games themselves but they're being distributed by third parties. I reckon they'll do the same they did for DQ8 for those games. Kohn Media distributed it in Germany, Ubisoft in French-speaking countries (and Italy? Not sure about that) and Proein in Spain. I believe Capcom does the same thing with EA, doesn't it?

so, like, does the euro version of EDF2 have a 60 hz mode? anyone know?

No idea. I should think it will though, if the crappy 505 GameStreet can include 60hz in their PAL Simple 2000 games, these guys can too!

But speaking of which, the game's been pushed all the way back to September 8 now. :(

EDF what? No idea of what that is...

Japanese title is Earth Defence Force 2.

Shame I already beat the japanese version of EDF2 or else I'd be eager to pick this up.

Everyone who hasn't played this however has no excuse. Easily some of the most fun co-op I've had in a long time.
