Didn't NST just do like, the menus or something? Or compile the three games into one disc? I honestly have no idea what really happened, but I could've sworn I heard something like that before.
The Nintendo Puzzle Collection port of Panel de Pon is so bad that I assumed (when I saw various western names in the ending credits) it was handled by NST, too. "EAD Ninja" swears up and down that it wasn't, though.
NST probably just ported the SNES or N64 version over to the Gamecube.
It's far from a straight port, though. The music has all been horribly re-written, and the menu/map sprites are totally redone in a sort of hideous pseudo-3D pre-rendered style. Basically the only positive addition to the game is the 4-player mode.

What the hell are you talking about. I know exactly who was involved in that game. About 4 different development studios contributed to make that compilation. NST was one of them.
The breakdown was like.
Nintendo R&D1 / Newcom Dr. Mario GameCube

NSTC / Nintendo R&D1 / Intelligent Systems Panel De Pon GameCube

NSTC was involved in Panel De Pon, but it was like 2 of the programmers from the Pokemon Puzzle League N64 team with a few designers along with a few of the Nintendo & Nintendo/Int Sys artists and designers.
All I know is that a couple years back, when the game came out, I mentioned that the remake of Panel de Pon was so bad that it must've been done by NST. The several non-Japanese names in the credits fueled my suspicions. I could've sworn you popped up and said they had nothing to do with it, because ever since then I've been scratching my head and wondering how Int Sys/R&D1 could produce such a gross port on their own. I'm happy to hear that they didn't!
Is Panel de Pon in this collection an N64 rom? Doesn't look much like a GCN game.
Most Western developers for Nintendo have been a miss. Considering Nintendo Japan still rules the roost when it comes to making its best games, it can't be helpped the company has to outsource its franchises to keep them profittable.
Them NST/Digipen students are best suited for handheld work.
