Report: Halo Combat Evolved Remake is being developed by Abstraction A Virtuos Studio

Halo 1 remake with what's going on right now with resident evil, metal gear solid and gears of war I think they're willing to remake a halo game at this point.

After watching the video and going though some of the comments, there is still some hope for this project.

Rebs specifically mentions the Halo Reach version of Blam, which could mean animations and level geometry from the original Combat Evolved wouldn't be running "under" the UE5 graphics. Hopefully Blam is only used for its physics and game logic while everything else is built in Unreal.

That scenario would be theoretically ideal, as it would preserve the game feel that purists love while adding the level design changes and graphics the game needs in the modern era. It could also mean new levels built in the style of the classic games for the first time in years.

I didn't have much faith in this as CE is still better than Anniversary very unreadable textures and UE5 would go further in that direction but maaaaan, I still had a slight hope for this.

Just fucking put MCC on other consoles
I think seeing the sales splits massively in favour of PS5/Switch would push Xbox shills and die hard fans over the edge.

Sure, they'll be the "well yeah, because it is on GP", but it would still be the case if GP didn't exist and they had to buy the game. Whether it's Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza etc. the splits would be massive just like they are with third party games already.

Xbox probably don't want that plastered all over the internet. Will just add even more damage to the brand.

I still wonder what it will take to truly break the toxic positivity gamers. You know, the ones in total denial at how bad the state of the industry is in 2025. The ones who say "it's never been a better time to be a gamer" despite actually good games being so few and far between that entire years to by without so much as single 10/10 game, the likes of which we used to get multiples of PER YEAR from 1995 to 2005. What the fuck even happened? Is it graphics progress putting too much of a strain on dev times? Is it outsourcing to India and other 3rd world countries? Is it extreme political activism being shoved into games in unfun ways? Probably all the above and then some. All I know is, I'm 38 years old and there's never been a worse time to be a gamer. I truly feel for the younger kids growing up in this era with absolutely nothing to be excited about.
I find this to be an interesting point. I've long said as messed up as gaming is these days I think the highs, like a Clair Obscur, as as high as they've ever been. The lows, however are quite low and there are underlying problems in the industry that are cause for concern.

I've been toying with switching to PC because I think the future of consoles isn't for me. When I look at what I'd be buying on PC if I made that switch most of it is stuff I already own on console. For example, I just bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution and The Sabeteur on GOG because they were on sale and I can play them on my PC and they'll run better than they will on console.

I guess my point is that there isn't a ton of new stuff coming out that makes me say "I really need a gaming rig now. I'll play the old classics on PC for a better experience, play new stuff I really want on console and when it's time to move on from PS5 I can build a rig."

The highs of gaming are still very high. But there's a lot less new that feels must play then in the past.

Better not be another reskin.

I was hoping for something more transformative akin to RE2 RE but I imagine its too daunting of a task.

Will never happen, Halo CE Remake will be the first Halo on PlayStation/Switch

They tried to port Halo 5 to PC and gave up because of technical difficulties.

They did eventually port MCC to PC, after spending half a decade getting it running halfway decent on Xbox. And then they wound down the MCC team.

Halo CE is effectively a reboot of Halo for the MS gaming multiplatform era, thus using a multiplatform engine.

Expect a UE5 remake of Halo 2 and the new multiplayer-only Halo on PlayStation, Switch, PC and Xbox to follow.

Resident Evil 2 Remake benefitted from a huge shift to over the shoulder controls, the fixed camera tank controls had aged horribly and there was an opportunity to overhaul it.

The original Halo still holds up in terms of gameplay, but not graphically.

I think remakes of Halo 1, 2 and 3 in UE5 could do very well, especially with graphics like this…

UE5 works quite well with small enclosed levels. The larger more open levels in Halo would suffer from stutter unless they are able to manage what no other developer seems to be able to do.

The Witcher 4 demo was supposedly running f on UE5.6, which brings big frame rate improvements.

Pretty sure the Witcher 4 demo was working on an experimental version(branch) closer to 5.7 than 5.6

Nanite for foliage and skinning is in Exp for 5.7

But 5.6 did bring some rendering features that should help with the cost of the engine in general on current gen hardware.

Isn't it super reassuring when even in the official documentation of the goddamned company that makes the fucking engine that fucker can't hit the bloody 16,66ms target?

Hardware Ray Tracing was always listed as targeting 30fps games and high end PCs.
Software Ray Tracing was supposed to be used when targeting 60fps.

Wityh 5.6 and 5.7 maybe current gen games will finally use Hardware RT more often.
Im always disappointed when even PC version dont use Hardware RT.

Yeah but when you publish something is to brag about it. The bright side of your product. And in case of something multi platform: the 5090 version of it.

both Hardware and Software Lumen look hilariously bad compared to other engines, while also usually running worse.

so it's not really relevant what Epic's target spec was... Lumen itself is just so ass that it's laughable how hardware hungry it is.

reminder that SW Outlaws has RT GI and RT reflections on Switch 2, that look superior or at least on par with many Lumen implementations on far more powerful systems.

I have just seen this video right now but if this is a target for them then it is already a failure. I put a comment in the video.

Readability is the key. It is more important than being ultra realistic. What do I need to see and understand instantly when I am looking at a scenery ? When looking at several characters in front of a scenery ? If the most important things don't pop out instantly, it's a failure. Especially for a fast, free camera action game. Be careful of the contrast of your backgrounds, and of your characters inside the backgrounds.
