Panzer Dragoon Orta is magnificent!

This game actually unseated PDII as my favorite game in the series (no small feat considering how much I loved the aformentioned PD.) I remember being hyped for months about this game, and finally realising after playing it for about a minute that it totally lived up to and exceeded my expectations. One of the best experiences I've had this-gen, possibly any gen, and I chalk it up as one of the best shooters I've ever played, from the awesome art-direction to the super fast, smooth gameplay, to having one of the best if not the best fleshed out storylines out of any shooter I've ever played. Reminds me from time-to-time that Sega's not dead yet.

I don't know, for me it was good but not perfect. I thought there were too many long sections where you just wait for the next set of enemies to appear - some parts of the game felt far too quiet and empty - I guess it was supposed to allow you to oogle the scenery a bit. And I never gave a shit about any of the characters or the story during it either. Maybe that's a cultural thing? Althought Neon Genesis Evengelion's story moved me so I don't know. I've finished it a few times and kept it just in case I wanted to play it again one day but I've enjoyed other Xbox games more. It does look pretty but I expected it to look even better based on what people had said.

I bought it mainly because I wanted to play the original Panzer Dragoon port that came with it, having rented it and a Saturn years ago and remembering it as being awe-inspiring. Man did that game age badly! The gameplay was still good and the art was great but the pixelization and the frame rate! Ouch! Still happy I got it in the end though and I would never tell anyone not to buy it.

I still think the graphics of PDO holds up pretty well to NG:Black and DOA:U. Plus the game is on rails, mainly because the developers obviously felt the game would be better if they could control the eb and flow, and intensity, like a movie script. I just think of it as similar to a 2D shooter, only it's in 3D and you can move around in 3D space (in a predetermined path like the forced scrolling 2D shooter). The game is extremely polished and once things click, it's a wonderful feeling.

This is a game where you can tell the developers were inspired and were going all out. Just too bad that the xbox fanbase at the time was so PC centric, so an old school style shooter with a very console japanese art style and atmosphere is just not something those folks are looking out for. Then again, I doubt Sega would've gotten that high level of graphics out of the Gamecube or PS2 at the time. In the end it doesn't matter much to me, I got the game and enjoyed it, though...no sequel in sight, so maybe this does matter.

I guess I'm the only person in the world who did not like this game. It's visually good and the gameplay is fine but the characters, story and art is just bleh..

Btw, original panzer dragoon is in this game right? According to gamefaqs you can unlock it by either beating the game or have spent more than 5h playing it.. Well I have beaten the game, and my time is over 8h for the moment yet there is no PD to unlock. Why is that?

Did you look inside Pandora's Box? It should be unlocked there.

God I hope this game is supported in BC on the 360. This, KotoR, and NG are all I have an interest in anyways on the old platform. It shouldn't be too much to ask.

Yah I did check there and I cant find it. I have unlocked all those scenario missions and beaten them aswell. There is one globe that still has the text ????? below it, and I think that is Panzer Dragoon? I have unlocked 25% of the stuff in the game so far. I have played the game on normal and easy, but only beaten it in easy.

Thus far Shenmue II is the greatest reason to have owned an Xbox this generation for me
Sigh, damn Sega for not releasing the DC version over there. It was so much better playing the DC version believe me, because you're totally like "Holy shit the Dreamcast is pulling this off? Amazing!", but Xbox the graphics seemed more "expected". Plus they minced the soundtrack tryng to make it more american and left out some graphical effects (wtf).

I recall it being 8 hours, but perhaps I'm wrong (I certainly didn't check before posting this).
