Pathfinder Adventures |OT| Decks, dice, and digital dungeons

I've only played the intro thus far, but this seems really solid with the mechanics.

I've encountered a couple odd bugs (Bless Obsidian), like having to slide up to add to a party and some swipes not recognized, but, overall, I think this is a great game. I'll probably throw them 27$ here soon, just want to test a few more things.

So far, Bluestacks is working well, as is my S5 (even if it's so small I have to take off my glasses and squint) and I even cast it to my TV for shiggles.

Thanks for this thread, or I might not have grabbed it. My daughter enjoys watching as well, so win/win. :)

Wow, thanks for the warning. I was thinking about purchasing the bundle.

Looks like it restored when I rebooted everything, relogged in, and then went offline. I was playing offline and it was fine.

The good news - the game is fun, and while I did play a ton of the physical game, I'm finding the digital version tough. The bad news is that it's still buggy.

Oh man I didn't know someone made a thread for this. I played a bunch on launch since I love the physical version but haven't gotten back to it since. Might or might not have had something to do with losing 3 characters at once in an Adventure 2 scenario... lol.

I see a fair amount of people asking for who to get as new characters, and tbh I think Lem and Lini are easily top tier. If they aren't your style then you can roughly gauge the roster based on starting hand size, greater hand size being better overall. Once you get to endgame all the characters feel very powerful but anybody that starts with a hand size of 4 has a very slow/rough start.

Tips for new players:

- Armor is a trap and actually kinda bad. It takes up space in your hand and if you can pass your checks you pretty much never take damage. Cycle it at the end of turn if it's magic or discard it if you don't have an immediate need for it.
- If a card has multiple checks (shown by X THEN Y instead of X OR Y), you can hand either check off to a second character if they share the location. It's not obviously found or explained but you can access it in the same menu you change the skill roll.
- Playing with more characters means each character needs to explore more on their turns. Assuming you find a villain/henchmen and close the location by the 6th card on average, the average explores per turn needed are 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6 for party sizes 1-6 respectively. This means that typically in party sizes 1-3 you can explore at your leisure and spend blessings and allies on making checks instead of exploring. however in 4-6 you'll need to spend some blessings and allies on extra explores to make the timer.

can't even get the game to run on my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, it freezes every single time at the "powered by unity" loading screen. I checked the support forum and my device is supported, but seemingly no one else has the same problem

e: could my android version be outdated? 4.1.2, I don't get any newer updates through auto-update

For what little it may be worth, there's at least one other person with your problem. Me!

I'm on Xperia Z5 (not specifically listed on the support forums). Don't think you need worry that it's necessarily an Android version issue as I'm on 6.0. Launch app, brief Pathfinder splashscreen, three seconds of a spinning 'loading' star above the Unity logo and then the spinny star stops, app freezes. Tried half a dozen times, uninstall/reinstalled, tried again, no change. Bummer.

Have they fixed Quest mode yet? (that is, made it launch at all)

Loving the game otherwise. It's a nice time-waster that tickles my enjoyment of D&D and card games.

yup, it's the same for me

I made a topic in the support forum and got ignored, which is annoying because the mods respond to practically everyone else. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong

well, I'm gonna try Bluestacks now

e: quick question: my available cards aren't displayed in the deck builder. Is that a known bug?
e2: what are those wildcard powers? And how does that class upgrade tree work?

Heh. daily gold seems to be working somewhat, but it also seems each press of the button ticks down a day.

I had 29 days last night.
got the daily gold today, it didn't clear so I pressed the button again. Got no gold.

and now am down to 27 days.

w/e I got some extra gold from them for my troubles so as long as I don't lose 4 more days it's not a big deal.

Fun game, but I might just wait out for them to fix the game. I'm on Android.. and I haven't played a game this buggy on a phone ever.

You know I was starting to feel this way, good to see confirmation.

cleared the 1st 2 adventures on the hardest difficulty with the 2 default characters only :>

regarding armor, i prefer if the armor has reveal to reduce damage, but this seems like a light armor thing/shield only thing

Yeah for sure the reveal one is better if you can get those. I think they're a trait of elven armors and some magic shields. But even with reveal I find that typically you want the other cards in your hand over armor so I still recharge it at end of turn. Armor doesn't do anything to help pass your check and is more of a failsafe for riskier maneuvers.

how are you recharging your armor at end of turn?
in general it is just discard cards to get new ones at end of turn.

Magic armors (and some shields but not all magic shields) typically have a line on the card that says if you're proficient with this type of armor, you can recharge it at the end of turn. With the app you have to manually hit the last phase of the turn and then on the discard step you will see a small refresh circle in the corner of the armor. If you click the card you get the option to recharge or discard. Alternatively you can drag it to your deck to recharge.

i dunno, some armors are good if you have the armor proficiency to bury it to reduce all damage
but yeah i don't think upgrading the armor card feat is advisable

You really just have to weigh it against not drawing a usable card that turn. For me that's only keeping armor if I know an upcoming encounter does pre-encounter damage. The chances of that happening are low enough that if I haven't scouted it ahead of time then I don't hold onto the armor. Most characters that have armors start with hand sizes of 4 or 5 and holding an armor effectively reduces it by 1, making your turns with that character even more lackluster.

It's best to try to make sure any character that is holding armor has armor they can recharge at the end of their turn.

I'll think about upgrading hand size for my next card feat I guess

More cards is nice, but I'd only consider it on character with a starting hand size of 4. A larger hand size means characters are closer to death.

does anyone know a fix for the inventory bug? I can only access the cards that I get during an adventure, unless one character doesn't have enough cards and can't replace them with the loot in which case I can give them cards from my stash

that's actually how the game works
the vault just shows you all cards you might encounter

Isn't this what I've been saying? lol.

I would still consider it for hand sizes of 5 too. It wouldn't be my de facto #1 choice, but I'd consider it.

Yeah you only carry what's in your deck between adventures/scenarios. There is a short period of time before starting the first scenario (Brigandoom!) in a new party where you can have access to every card with the basic trait however.

oh, so every card that I drop into "Available" disappears forever? But there's some weird stuff going on - like, I got an item as a quest reward, but afterwards I couldn't find the item anywhere

If I pick up an expansion character now does that lock me out of the character pack, or does it reduce the price accordingly? I mostly want to pick up Lini now and start saving up gold for the next set/sale.

Most cards go back into the card pool, you'll be able to encounter it again later, but purely by chance. If it's a quest reward and labelled as a 'loot' item type, like the Sihedron Amulet, you can't get it again. Well maybe you could if you repeat the quest. I'm not entirely sure on that point.

In the card game if you loot is either banished or returned to the box it's gone for good. It doesn't get added with other cards of its type and you can't add it to your deck if you are short on cards. With the Sihedron Medallion there are other copies you can get as loot later on the adventure path though.

You can't get quest rewards a second time, but you could possibly run another group of charterers through the quest, group then with the character you want it on and then swap for it after a scenario. I haven't really looked at how making new groups with experienced charterers works though.

Yeah I just wasn't sure if you could repeat the quest for the reward again if it was in the box since with the phys version I only repeat scenarios on a fail.

alright I suppose that makes sense, thanks. I don't think the game indicated that your cards will vanish in the stash, so it was rather confusing for me

can you bring a new character into your party in progress? like buy a new one then just let him/her join my party that i'm currently using? found a card that would probably be good for an arcane caster so i was thinking of buying either seoni or ezren then let him/her equip the card

You can or should be able to. They won't have the power/skill/card feat rewards from the previous missions. Not sure how to access the party config menu though

Weird. I'm on a Xperia Z3C and it runs fine. Battery drain is insane though.

I'm getting worked by RNG. I can't beat the Goblin villain for the life of me. I've been through the module 5 times and just can't seal the deal. Is the game meant to be this punitive or is my inexperience leading to my problems?

just keep farming for good cards
for example: flaming mace+1, masterwork tools, aid, holy light, father zanthus
all these can appear on the 1st adventure
play merisiel solo and let kyra join the same location when she needs healing, remember to use another character's blessing to help a character, you can do this even when they're not in the same location

Picked up Lini, it seems to have no effect on the price of the 4-character set, which is disappointing, but not unexpected.

Also, in the process of trying to figure out how to customize your starting deck in story mode (like in the physical game), I realized you can create new characters, add them to your game, and freely swap around cards with existing characters. This can give characters a nice boost from the start and let Lini start off with my preferred 2x cure, 4x inflict, thieves tools, and set of crows.

For custom decks in story mode, create and form a new party. Then before you do anything else, hit the deck editor button in the bottom right. If you do this before the first Brigandoom! scenario then you should have access to all the basic cards for custom decks

I didn't really think of farming prior modules for cards. How does that work? I only get the cards I earn and discard, right?

Yup, that's what I did. Then loaded up the new character with basic cards I wanted redistributed to the 'main' team.

4th adventure of the 2nd set? That one is a roadblock for me at the moment. My current party is the thief, cleric, druid and bard, and they don't have the armor to eat the all the damage and still have enough cards left to defeat him
on the second turn of combat

a couple questions about the he bard: what does favored card type do, and is charisma the stat that affects his arcane/divine checks? Oh, and is it possibly yet to reset stats and abilities? I gave him light armor proficiency before I noticed that he can't actually have armor cards yet

also, father zanthus is the best

btw, the two biggest bullshit things about the game is having to banish cards for closing locations and the global effect where you lose blessings for failing any check including items

Each character has a favored card type that guarantees they will have one card of that type in their starting hand. e.g. Merisiel's is item so she'll always start with an item.

Lem's favored card type is one of his choice, so I like to pick weapon to guarantee he has some combat ability.

Charisma is his arcane/divine check so increasing that stat will increase his ability to complete those checks.

I think you're SOL re: stat resets. What you can do is start him in the same area as someone with multiple armors and then give him one of theirs at the start of their turn if you want to make use of it.

Yeah that global effect is rough and can show up as a wild power on the harder difficulties. Had that plus taking any combat damage required me to bury a card so I was spending blessings on every check lol.

if i get the location with banish X to close bullshit i definitely will save a useless card in my hand for it, be it some random item or some random ally i got prior in the location
i'd rather keep my good cards than just clearing a stage

much obliged, mercviper. The game could do a somewhat better job at explaining it's mechanics

Which is made worse by the fact that you aren't allowed to decline to attempt to acquire boons like you're supposed to be able to.

does anyone have a two copies of father zanthus, or any of the other good cards? I'm getting the impression that there's a hard limit for those depending on how far you have advanced in the game, haven't found anything useful in hours

games with my 5-man group take forever now, the scenaros become more difficult, yet the reward remains the same. This isn't very efficient for farming gold

There's only one copy of Father Zanthus. You can see how many copies of a particular card exist by going to the gallery. If there's a number on the lower right of the card, that's how many copies there are. If no number, there's only one copy of that card.

For example, there's one copy of Father Zanthus and three copies of Archer.

By the by, at some point a patch is coming.

We just submitted a patch build to Apple and Google so that your Cinco de Mayo will be a better experience.

Google seems to have a pretty quick turnaround but submissions to Apple could take up to 3 days to publish. We don't think it will take that long for iOS but it is out of our hands now.

Fixed:

- Quest Mode - Now with more "working!" We found an issue where Blessings were misappropriated depending on party size and would make it unplayable IF it didn't outright crash.

- Duplicate Party Members - Pushing out experienced party members and causing a possible progression block. The Dopplegangers have been smote. Anybody who had a crashed screen will be resolved.

- Daily Gold - Counter should be working properly. More importantly, you can actually collect gold. This didn't affect everybody but it was very annoying to those it did affect. In the near future: We are moving the collection of gold to be on the opening screen in addition to the store's main screen. Since it wasn't delivered on logging into the game and needed to be tapped-on, there was some unintuitiveness.

- Gold Exploit - There was a way to generate a lot of money by taking some highly geared individuals into some low level scenarios and constantly get a one time reward. Making it not very one-time.

Is that an option to just unlock all the content for a decent price!? I almost want to buy it just to encourage that shit. I guess I'll still try it before I give them any money.

Yeah you unlock everything (content-wise) for $25 (including adventure decks 3-6 when they come out) Then you can spend all the gold you gain on treasure chests to increase your card vault via RNG

To quote a dev http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/86047-character-progression-speculation/?p=1800617
As to what's included in the bundle:

All currently released Rise of the Runelords Adventures
All future RotR Adventures
All RotR characters (including the Add-On deck characters)
Character Add-On Deck (deck C)
Promo Cards!

Bottom line: If you are giving us money, you get it all!

welp, that explains it

looks like maxed out on the cards I want, time to unlock the last adventure I suppose

Technically, if you really really wanted, you could go past the inherent card vault limits by jumping through a lot of hoops. I asked a question about how the game worked when you have experienced members from two different parties join up, and they keep all the cards in the list, so you could temporarily dupe Zanthus by finding him in another party and then merging that character to your current one.

http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/86495-cant-find-cards/?p=1806832

tbh the game isn't really scaled for or meant to be farmed. Loot comes fairly easy even if it doesn't feel like it and you should see almost all the cards before you hit the next adventure deck. Well, at least that's my experience but it's also probably skewed because I run 8 locations every scenario. I should probably play some solo/duo playthroughs just to see the difference.
