On Saturday, at the Fuel Fast gathering in Los Angeles Vin Diesel got on stage and made three announcements regarding the final Fast and Furious movie.
The third, which Diesel milked for the crowd, was that Brian O'Conner – played in six earlier movies by the late Paul Walker – will be making a proper return in the film.

He provided no details on how Brian, who left the series in Furious 7 after Walker's death, will return but it will will undoubtedly rely on CGI and Cody Walker.

Vin Diesel said he met with Universal Studios on Friday and was asked if they could have the finale of Fast and Furious on April 20, 2027.
Diesel claimed he told the studio yes under three conditions: bring the franchise back to Los Angeles, return to the car culture of street racing, and the third was reuniting his character, Dominic Toretto and Walker's character, O'Conner.

I don't watch these films, but wasn't it some silly detail like his character was still with them (even if he wasn't active in their racing/heist/whatever shenanigans), even at their lunch/dinner gatherings they would do, but he'd always be off-screen?

That's great but don't forget that Hector is going to be running 3 Honda Civics with spoon engines. And on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec System exhaust.

Yes, his character basically "retired" from the super hero biz to raise his kids. The gang mentions him at least once a film and always something like "leave him out of it/He doesnt need to know/he's the best of us" style thing.

I'll give the last film with him credit though, the final scenes were a real tear jerker/very well done, as EVERYONE who watched the films knew it was a goodbye to Paul Walker

Yeah that was super sad.

I'm not really supportive of this unless Paul's estate and family get the money from it. Let the dead rest

I must have misunderstood. I thought they were using the "magic" of cgi to do it.
It'll be a combo, Cody Walker will do the acting/be the physical person on camera, and CG will be used to adjust his facial difference to match Paul (just like the did in the 6th film, as Paul had only filmed part of the scenes in that movie). His voice will probably be adjusted in post too to closer match Pauls, or they'll redub him with a sound alike. Luckily he looks *enough* like Paul that it shouldn't cause too many issues so long as the visual effects company is good.

I don't imagine Vin would do anything underhanded or disrespectful towards Paul and his family. They were both very close and I know he'll make sure whatever they plan for 11, is done tastefully. Just like the end of 7.

Came here for this 😂😂
Well played Sir.

Not sure how I feel about this. Fast 7 was the perfect end for Paul. Bringing him back is going to severely diminish that beautiful send off of his characater.

I actually quite like the idea that the last film will circle back to the first one set in LA, car culture and whatnot instead of the bat shit stuff of the last few.

I'd rather they didn't. But if they do hopefully it's a fairly quick shot of Brian at the family BBQ or whatever.

The beach scene at the end of 7 is great and works far better than it should. But it's also kinda odd because it doesn't really make sense in-universe as to why they're suddenly like "well, I guess that's it for Brian!" but it makes sense in the real world context. There are probably other examples of scenes like that but off the top of my head it's unique in that regard.

It's about time to bring it back. Sure the franchise has been entertaining but just finish it by coming back to its roots. Bringing back Brian, I don't know how I feel about it. Hopefully it is just a small snippet with the family.

Oh, and. Vin Diesel is now Double Chin Diesel. lol.

The movie is supposed to return to the car culture of street racing? Nah, they need to have an asteroid hitting LA or a supervolcano eruption to end with a proper bang.

wtf i thought it was all him 6 is the last one i saw

I never watched any of those movies properly, although, I do think I remember one scene where Paul Walker (I think.) stands up on a bike, and later Vin Diesel tells him something along the lines "I don't know what you wanted to prove, but you've proved it."

It was cool scene.

Over the years I did saw some trailers, and read about Walker's death, though...
I believe Need for Speed: Underground was inspired by these movies.

I don't know, now that I think about it, as someone who loves long running franchises, I kinda wish I followed Fast & Furious movies as they were released, but life happened, I guess.

Maybe I will marathon them once.

Yeah, my best friend does watch these films, and he says he wished they stopped at 7(?) with that ending, he felt it would have been a nice closing note for the series.

Keep the movie grounded, but then have a totally self-aware silly post credits scene, where an asteroid is coming and the president of the United States says to his secretary "there's only one team for the job". He gets them on the phone, they load up their cars with mini tactical nukes on the front and boosters on the back, training montage with space suits, transport them across the globe on an aircraft carrier, and it cuts on a shot of the carrier coming into the bottom left of the frame with a big rocket ashore in the background centre-left, ready to take off and the asteroid glimmering in the top right corner of the frame.

Woah woah, wait a sec...forget the Paul Walker stuff...have they been using CGI on Vin Diesel? How long has he looked so fat??? I haven't seen the last few movies because they looked like dog shit, but the trailers didn't make him look so fat.

Full CGI can work in small doses, but trying to carry entire scenes, or worse, whole movies, with it usually falls apart

He had gained weight in Fast 9. There is a scene in his garage (after a flashback I think) where you can see him very obviously wearing a male equivalent of a spanx tanktop (it was a white top) to shape his upper body better. Not sure why they kept that scene in or thought it looked good, but they did.

In Fast X he you can tell he went back to the gym and lost a bit of weight again, but his gut wasn't fully gone, just hidden better with better outfit choices.

However now it appears that he gained it back again during the downtime after Fast X.

I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters. Not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and their bullshit. For those 10 seconds or less, I'm free.

They already went to space

I wonder how they go back to street racing in Los Angeles after everything that happened in X and the big cliffhanger.
Holy shit, really?

I was just having a laugh as I've only watched one or two of these and wasn't entirely paying attention even then. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
