She is an old white woman in the US, though a rich old white woman, this is not surprising. I'm sure almost every one of our grand parents if they're white and lived in the US have used that word.

Fixed, I can tell you my grandparents never did and I suspect many minority GAF members who grandparents aren't located in the US probably have never used that word. It's purely an American thing with stronger ties to the south but happens everywhere.

And it happens because your grandparents are ignorant, the time they lived in wasn't an excuse either. They were ignorant then and they carried it into their old age.

I just saw a documentary that had lots of footage and mugshots of white people getting arrested during the 60's civil rights struggle, and pictures of others who had been killed alongside blacks. It's very disrespectful to paint that generation with the same broad stroke.

Not sure how this post has anything to do with mine.

What are you guys watching?

I turned into Food Network for the first time in ages this morning - when someone on here mentioned they yanked Pauler's show and put one of Giada's in its place.

After Giada was some horrible show with Tricia Yearwood. She was making horrible Taco Bell-esque Mexican food for her Zumba class. It was weird.

She's only worth $17M? It seems like she should be worth way more than that by this point.

Ooh love Giada...sucks that the show is bad.

Has anyone else noticed that every show has giada showing her cleavage? I think it's a trademark by now.

Yummm

Paula Deen admitted to using inappropriate language and she has been dealt with. Was Paula really difficult to be around or was she just accustomed to being inappropriate? And using the N word is never okay.

Actually it's supposed to be Giada De Laurentiis, who was cheating on her hubby with some vocal artist dude. Or cuckolding her hubby, if the rumor was supposed to be true, because she wasn't hiding it. And she's supposed to be pretty open with her sexuality, under hub's nose, so much to the point that people thought he was gay.

She did what?

She did what?

Giada and John Meyer. Big rumor from I guess...last year? Apparently John bragged and she is a bit of a groupie because...there is another. Or so the rumor goes.

In the line Saturday, some pointed out that some African-Americans regularly used the word Ms. Deen had admitted to saying.

“I don’t understand why some people can use it and others can’t,” said Rebecca Beckerwerth, 55, a North Carolina native who lives in Arizona and had made reservations at the restaurant Friday.

Tyrone A. Forman, the director of the James Weldon Johnson Institute for the Study of Race and Difference at Emory University, said the use of derogatory words can mean different things to different groups.

“That nuance is too much for us,” Mr. Forman said. “We have a black president so we’re postracial, right? Someone uses the N-word? That’s racist. But the reality is there is a lot of gray.”

no. and stop saying that too. Most people won't detect the irony in the question.

Jesus look at all the fat white people in that photo....

Here is a gigantic photo of a black person there.

“I get it, believe me,” Ms. Green said. “But what’s hard for people to understand is that she didn’t mean it as racist. It sounds bad, but that’s not what’s in her heart. She’s just from another time.”

Is it awkward to have her separated from the rest, and photographed?

That photo says it all doesn't it?

White America doesn't want to look at itself in the mirror and instead tries to claim ignorance, the 'different time' argument or attempts to place blame on others "black people use that word!" type stuff.

We really do need to have a conversation about race as a nation as the civil rights movement never finished all of it's goals. But people don't want it as it'll force people to challenge their deeply held beliefs about if they really are prejudicial. I did and found many of the things I unknowing believed, were based on just plain false things and actually hurt others and fought against my genuine desire to be non-discriminatory

It infuriates me that people claim being non racist because they don't overtly discriminate, while at the same time stereotyping, generalizing using racial slurs, fighting against civil rights legislation and spouting extreme ignorance on the facts of racism in today's world.

She's the lone negro. She came all the way from Virginia...'to support Paula Deen' .

too often it only means "I don't think I'm racist!" When you try to say something about the culture, it's "oh that's just harmless, everything is really ok." An outside perspective trying to say that there are racial elements to general life they might not notice and its "why are you looking so hard for problems? Our lifestyle works, everyone knows their place, and only the ones who don't fit in are the ones who are trouble"

That whole "She's from a different" time is a crock of shit. Is it 2013? Are you alive in 2013? Did you live every year up to 2013? Where you locked in a house unaware of the world changing around you? Shut the fuck up with that "I'm from a different time shit." You're in 2013, not an excuse. Fuck you.

So it only pisses you off when White people do it. Gotcha.

White people have been on notice for 30 years. You will be destroyed if deemed biased. Beware!

These Paula Deen hashtags are almost as vicious as the Ask Draya catastrophe.
"Some of my best friends are Black Eyed Peas"
"So You Think You Can Vote"

Lawanda Jones, 62, who drove two hours with some friends to celebrate birthdays at The Lady and Sons, said many people in the South have worked hard to overcome its racist past.

“We have lived with each other and loved each other here for a long time,” said Mrs. Jones, who is white. “Sometimes I think there is more prejudice in the North than there is in the South.”
So delusional, it's hilarious.

We used to work on commercials with Paula Deen, and everybody I've talked to who was on set said that the things that would come out of her mouth were horrendous. Never heard anything about her saying anything racist, but just generally foul-mouthed.

This:
A Georgia judge has found Paula Deen and her codefendants in a $1.2 million sexual harassment lawsuit in contempt of court for failing to turn over a blooper reel in which the Food Network star is said to cuss up a storm — and perform a sex act on a chocolate eclair!

The woman suing the queen of Southern cuisine asked the court to rule that she violated an order to turn over a tape of “obscene and vulgar video outtakes,” according to documents filed in a Savannah, Ga., court and obtained exclusively by RadarOnline.com.

That video — which consists of outtakes from her show — is said to include the 66-year-old dropping the swear word “motherf**kers”, declaring a dish smells like a “stinky coochie” and suggestively describing one gooey meal as “just a syrup that’s gonna stick our balls together.”

She even pretends to perform a fellatio act on a pastry before declaring, “My a** ain’t pretty no more!”

Deen had previously appealed the court’s decision and wouldn’t produce the naughty tape until her appeal was heard.
sounds exactly in line with all the stories I've heard over the last few years about her.

Now that's the kind of cooking show that I wanna see.
