PC Gamepass update

Yeah, I had already decided to not renew my sub at $20. They can fuck right off asking $25

That's $300 a year. That's the cost of 4-5 full MSRP games and you don't even get to own anything. At this point it makes more sense to just buy what I want to play.

EDIT - I've just tallied what I've played via Game Pass this year. It's been South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Avowed. A quick price check on gg.deals totals out to $147.38 if I just purchased all of these games. Even if I play the remaining games I'm at least somewhat interested in for the year (Keeper (no price yet but probably a $30-$40 game), Outer Worlds 2 ($60 from gg.deals), Ninja Gaiden 4 ($56 from gg.deals)) I'm barely reaching $300. It literally doesn't make any financial sense to pay for a year of Game Pass any more (and I'm not going to do the month-here, month-there shit either)

I will bounce if they increase PC game pass from $12 to $25.
If the idea is that Xbox Cloud streaming will make up for it...they actually need to compete with Geforce Now to make that value compelling.

Geforce Now has more server locations which means lower latency for the population distribution and Ultimate just blows everything else out of the water.

Seriously though.. The future is gonna get more expensive for PC players imo:

- PC GP is likely not gonna be a thing anymore, or will become vastly more expensive.
- Companies are now paying very close attention to places like gg.deals and have become very circumspect about sales and where they put their keys, only flops or very old games will get cheap keys quickly from now on.

The other thing is people kept proclaiming that PS will have to follow MS and offer day 1 AAA games on their sub service, but instead it's MS who's following Sony into making day 1 less and less of a feature of GP, to the point of even copying their tier names (Essential, Premium are both PS Plus tier names).

This point is not remotely true. It's very, very easy to find much cheaper prices on new and upcoming games. Easier than ever.

Price will likely go up as a result of this tier change.
That is what I was saying. They are going to eliminate PC GP so the end result is PC gamers will have to pay more if they want to access one of the other tiers. I just do not see what is in it for PC users unless they plan to go with Ultimate. I guess this is happening now because the new not an Xbox Xbox launches soon.

Even with GP I still ignore the app and just buy the game I want to play on Steam. If you're going to increase the price, at the very least improve your abysmal app.

I'm honestly surprised MS didn't just spend a decade bullying Valve into a buyout, as they're incapable of creating a decent alternative themselves.

Yeah and your peak discount at release is what? %15-30? I would not classify this as "much cheaper", mainly because that's them giving you (some of) the cut that Valve didn't take on issued keys (Valve only takes its cut when games are sold on their marketplace, this is likely a measure to avoid antitrust charges given their massive marketshare on PC). You also lose the ability to refund as well, which is major.

Companies are not stupid, they know that the moment they price something at a new all-time low, it will become recorded on like 3 sites and people won't buy at a price above that all time low again. So now they slow-roll discounts to counteract this, this is why you always see complaints every Steam sale that it's not what it used to be.

Yep. Sorry I misread your post.

Assuming this is actually real, this is Microsoft streamlining their sub offerings, with the mentality that the new Xbox is going to be more PC than ever, so they're merging the Console and PC lines together and adding more margin to their PC players.

The only man this does not affect is Ass of Can Whooping Ass of Can Whooping

Understand Captain America GIF

Refundpass is immortal.

Just checked my current Ult sub.............

Its been a hard battle but theres no defending them getting rid of PC Gamepass.
If Standard still comes with EAPlay i might only say fuck this once.....if not.......
Worse still needing Ult for day one games?

$140 dollars per year..........ive been a cheap bastard for too long this is like double what I paid for my Ult per year.
Fuck me.

I wonder if I can still hunt some old Gold codes.

The point is, companies are not dictating what prices many of these grey market sites are selling their games for. That's why they're grey market sites.

And you would not classify 30% off a brand new game at launch as much cheaper? the fuck are you talking about lol

Who's generating and selling the keys? Publishers. Do you really think these grey market sellers don't get at least *some* of their keys from publishers directly?

In the end it doesn't matter and I don't care. A quick check of a recent game, Silent Hill f, is available for $51. That's 27% off of MSRP less than a week after release. And that's the norm with pretty much all new releases.

Now imagine buying those games physical, playing then selling right away getting 75% of your money back?

Thats the real reason they are pushing digital so much.
PC gamepass must have a really small subscriber count.
Their lack of attention to the App kills it for me. I'd rather play those games on console since at least the console experience doesn't feel cheap like the PC Xbox app does.

Didn't MS recently say PC Game Pass was their fastest growing GPU sub?

Dont think this is confirmed or close to being confirmed but if true ill just cancel xbox game demo service.

We get game demos by buying on steam then refunding after 2 hours.

Yeah I don't understand how they don't have an equivalent to Steams big picture mode. The Xbox app is acceptable if you are gaming on a monitor and using a mouse but just horrendous if you are on a TV with a controller.

As others have pointed out, PC is essentially Xbox's main platform now. They want everything to be an Xbox. So there is no point in having a PC-specific tier anymore. Sucks if it gets way more expensive though.

It'll be Xbox Live for PC multiplayer again, soon. :D

I hope next step is to end this service or at least take day 1 releases from the service so Xbox players can be educated to buy games.

They're gonna be doing a fullscreen experience thing for Windows itself, you can already access it if you're willing to tinker with your existing Windows set-up:

The gaming community is the only place in the universe where people demand to pay more for things.

Uh...really? I missed that, and I've looked often for any info on PC GP subscribers. I've never found any comments outside of pure marketing fluff at all.

I've long suspected it's a huge flop and very few PC only players are paying for it. I just haven't found any evidence to support that hunch.

I may have misread. Trying to find the article

With Xbox going away, PC Gamepass is going to be the only Gamepass and needs to do all the work.
I think eventually Gamepass will only have first-party games because 10 millions of PC subscribers won't be enough to sustain expensive third-party deals.

Sad day.

Tag me if you find anything. I'm super curious - whatever the details are.

I suspect almost all the people using GP on PC are Ultimate subscribers who own an Xbox console. I'd be shocked if they had even 1 million PC only GP subs.
