Low spec shading adds this kind of grain filter unfortunately. You can turn it off though with some commands.

Crysis 3 still keep several effects enabled even in low setting like motion blur, heat distortion, ambient occlusion, shadows and more. And it's still playable on a 1.6GHz i5 with an Intel HD 4000 GPU.

Parallax Occlusion Mapping, particles, water, grass and wind physics, Screen Space Water reflections on water and many wet surfaces, pixel correct hdr, bokeh depth of field [low quality though], cloud shadows are enabled on Low too.

The inherent problem with this is that it does not tell us how demanding those "lowest settings" are. It seems unfair to praise a game for looking good on "lowest settings" if it's as resource intensive as another game on medium settings. I'd say, in fact, that the second game is worthier of praise since it simply gives a wider range of freedom with its settings.

In short, the lookers on this thread will often be the ones that allow for the least configuration freedom and range of usable PCs.

Any 4 threaded CPU + 60$ DX11 GPU [GT 630 or similar] will allow You to play Crysis 3 on low settings in 720p or any decent 500$ laptop with something like 630m/525m/730m.

Next-gen integrated GPUs with CPUs will definitely be able to run it in constant 30fps on low/720p.

This probably isnt the thread for this but i got a sony vaio laptop last year for university i was wondering if i can run some pc games on it and at what settings(just give general perspective, im not pc savvy). I have never played any serious games on pc before, just some small mmo's and league of legends

Here's are my specs:
intel core i5-3210m @ 2.5GHz dual core
nvidia geforce 640 m LE for graphics card
1600x900 13 inch display if that adds anything.

I have a similar laptop, except with a 540m and an older version of the i5 clocked at 2.4, and I can run Far Cry 3 at high settings at 720p and it runs pretty well.

That painting looks awful. It's amazing how you go from that to seeing brush strokes when it's maxed. I've been playing Bioshock @1080p downsampled from 2560x1440 all settings cranked...so it's night and day.

This game had quite the difference. It's pretty well optimised so I can usually run it at Ultra settings with 4x supersampling without taking too much of a performance hit.

Damn, these games don't look THAT bad even on lowest settings.

Thats why i think PC gaming tops them all even if you got a junker pc if it can play on the lower side of the settings it still will look nice alongside the console brethren
