PC Low Settings Screenshot Thread

I always wonder what generally is better... I used to have a horrendous PC and play on the lowest of the lowest settings in 800x600. Should we be glad games can be this ugly, or if the low settings look the same as the regular versions?
I think the best way for a game to behave is having a really wide range of possible settings.

This thread...

I'm surprised none of the 'ultra low settings pics" have been used in PC vs console comparisons by clueless newbies or console fans with an agenda.

The goal of lowering settings is to increase FPS, if lowering the settings on a GPU bound game doesn't result in FPS increases and it doesn't look much different than higher settings, then it is poorly optimized.

It is kinda awful to see the shadows in GTA 4 when fake shadows AFAIK would be even less demanding, but it was nice being able to play some modern games Mafia 2 when I only had my 08 laptop.

Biggest issue is some multiplayer games. I puked a bit every time I saw my friend playing BC2 with everything on low because it removed/reduced foilage.

Forgot about this thread, my Steam library has grown a bit since it was made so I´ll try to post some more pics. Meanwhile here are a couple of shots of Just Cause 2, it doesn´t really look bad in low settings, but NPCs and vehicles do look hideous.

the main characters costume doesnt even look bad at all...the enemy looks completely hideous though lol

Nice idea, although I'd prefer lowest+highest settings comparisons with the exact same scene

Yes please. I like to load the high and low versions on separate tabs and go back and forth to spot the differences.
Requesting Batman Arkham City!

Isn't that just another excuse for lazy development - let users figure out how to optimize their games? I for one find it a turn-off in some of the recent games (like FC3) where I already spent hours trying to get optimal FPS/detail ratio and that's on a relatively high-end machine.

Also for competitive online games, some of these options can actually ruin the game balance, IMO we need better approaches to performance-scaling than just turning things off, but almost noone really wants to properly invest into that.

Its amazing how this game looks good on Lowest settings [SMAA 1x and anizo 8] and yet in-game looks so much better.

There is a settings editor that allows you to more finely tune the settings. I play with pretty much everything on low but the foliage.
