PC user if you want to upgrade your ram the time is now!

I backed off from buying some RAM a couple weeks ago as I wanted to see where prices would go. To my surprise RAM prices have plummetted in the last month! I remember 4 months ago when 1 gig pc3200 ram was about 160-170 bucks. Now it is down to under 90! This is a decent website and I just ordered a 1 gig stick from here!

If you want to give your PC a boost it is good to strike while the iron is hot! Or in this case while ram prices are down. Is there an expectation to see prices go any lower?

Memory 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)

That's what I have now, on my Dell XPS Gen 4.

If I wanted to upgrade to a total of 2gb, what do I need to do? Can I get another 2x512?

You have faster ram than me! :(

You need this stuff if you want the speeds to match:

Whether you can buy more not really sure. Do you still have your owners manual handy? Inside does it say what type of motherboard you have and if you have a pair of ram slots open?

Actually, memory prices have been pretty stable for the past six months, drifting downwards gradually.

I wish they had been plummeting, if only to increase the likelihood that we'll get a 512MB spec for the next gen consoles.

Ahh. It's been like two months since I last checked. And two months prices were at around 135. Ram is an interesting product to buy. You can get it dirt cheap when you find the price down at the right time. Then it goes back up due to lack of supply. So volitale in nature ram prices are!

I am through with PC gaming, saving for Xbox 2.

SWAT4, FEAR, Age of Empires 3. Potentiall FEAR buyers should get 1 gig in their system. Actually ram is getting so cheap again everyone should get a gig. I sometimes wonder why I spend so much money on console gaming at times. I buy much fewer PC titles but I play them a hell of a lot longer. But Xbox 360 may turn out to be a great proposition to getting high quality PC titles on a console with little lost in the translation. If MS ever thought of including like a 100GB hdd sold seperately for Xbox 360 and let the mod community thrive I'd consider lowering my PC gaming time as well.

The only PC I care about is not listed there (Battlefield 2)

btw I already have 1 gig of ram :)

If you have a gig of PC533MHZ I personally wouldn't invest more money in ram at the moment. Of course there are always those who say the more ram the better but I would wait for 533MHZ ram to drop a little more in price. You really don't need it right now.

Thank you. I guess I agree. Just wasn't sure if I could go for another 2x512mb or shoot up to a 2x1gb

I found my Dell Product Information Guide, but it doesn't talk about my mobo, just warrant and safety shit.

But, does this info help?
PROCESSOR, 80547, PENTIUM 4 PRESCOTT DT, Pentium 4 Prescott DT, 3.8GHZ, 1 MEGB, 800FSB, SKT-T, E0
CARD (CIRCUIT), PLANAR (MOTHERBOARD), TRANSFORMER SKY DIVE MINITOWER, XPS-G4, MID-LIFE KICKER

Yeah, it does.

Give me your computer! :D

When you order RAM down the road (I wouldn't do it now) and you get it from KOMUSA just remember to use the 'Select Intel chipset' motherboard option to get the right ram type. Although you really don't have to do anything since it seems to be set that way by default.

I must be going blind. I don't see that option anywhere.

Back in early February I picked up a Dell Dimensions XPS Gen 4 computer, 3.8ghz Pentium IV with HT Tech, ATI Radeon X850xt, 1gb ddr2 RAM. Been kinda regretting only getting 1gb ram and only 250gb hdd.

Edit - So, what can you tell me about my mobo?

Sorry, I was looking at the PC3200 ram before. The RAM you need PC4200 says to either choose the Intel 915 or Intel 925 chipset.

Not really sure yet. Maybe someone on the Intel side can help you out some more. SKT-T may be a model. All my stuff is on the AMD side which uses NFORCE chipset.

After seeing all your hardware, I really wouldn't worry about upgrading any time soon at all.
