Penny Arcade - The Thread

This is the kind of bullshit convos people have with their friends, which is fine, and hilarious in a way, but not meant for publication.

Yikes. Another miss.

I was reading through the archives the other night. 2003 was generally a good year. C'mon Penny Arcade, why can't you be as funny as you were in 2003?

The panel where he says "I was all like" and "He was all like" is funny. It actually conveys the distinction that "They were all" is an indication of a re-enactment, while they said is simply a statement of what was spoken, without the acting element.

it's for your own good, tycho!

the cake one would've just been a bland whatever comic if it hadn't come in the middle of this run of suck

and this comic falls into that same category, nothin really there to amuse me

Okay, that was pretty good, and eerily accurate. Your guildmates aren't your friends. Your guildmates are your dealers, and they're addicted to the smack they sell.

What I learned:

1) fitting text into bubbles for which it was not meant is a bitch
2) last panels are hard to make ):

I kinda wish Penny Arcade would stick to video game-related topics. Otherwise, it's just another Sunday comic strip, except where the word 'FUCK' is used(ad nausieum).

Point taken, but the last two have been game related. :)

The middle panel on the new one is gold. And I really liked that cake one for some reason. In general though, they need to talk about games more.

The cake one seems like Seinfeld, but since it's in comic form it doesn't work.

I'd have to agree on all those counts. Really surprised that nobody seemed to like the magazine-rack-pusher-wannabe comic.

That's pretty funny Matlock, esp if you imagine Kinesis in that cartoon as the guy breaking a display, substituted for knocking over a magazine rack ;p

The hard drive one only needs the first panel.

"Rub it on my dick?" When are they going to talk about some games?

It's Penny-Arcade. They'll talk about games when they feel like it.

I bet you bitch about Cardboard Tube Samurai strips too :P

I really don't like CTS.

But at least they are usually a nice change in art.

I'm just wondering what sort of complaint "when will they talk about GAMES?" is.

I mean, just looking at this thread, 5 of the last couple weeks' worth of strips involve games.

The past four strips in a row have not dealt with a specific game, genre, or gaming idea at all, unless you count advertising cutouts. Even worse, three of those are just Gabe and Tycho talking to each other.

I read PA because it is gaming related; if they didn't make comics about video games I would not visit the site and read it. When a week goes by and my fav comic doesn't talk about games, that is a "WTF moment" for me.

I read PA because it's funny (in theory).

Griping about the comic because it doesn't deal with games ALL THE TIME both amuses and frustrates me.
