Thank god. Now if only they could reduce it even further...

I absolutely love it when government can cut down on fundamental inefficiencies like bloated military expenditures. Screw the military industrial complex.

Sounds like we are largely firing inexpensive soldiers to protect a lot of fancy weapons.

I guess that is fine. We can always rehire soldiers.
Interestingly, pretty much. It takes decades to get a new fighter jet or ship class developed and fully operational. It takes significantly less time to teach Jimmy from rural Arkansas to shoot good and do other stuff good, too.

Navy vs Air Force seems like an age-old argument. The Navy has a better nuclear deterrent but it's conventional capability is limited by range (but is more deployable). The Air Force has the tankers that make range a relative non-issue for US aircraft; the Navy can bomb Afghanistan basically because the Air Force can them the gas.

Well, that depends on what you're talking about.

The Air Force would rather replace a downed plane ANY day of the week than replace a pilot.

Not only for moral reasons, but economic ones. You can build a plane in six months (depending on the model). It takes ten years to replace an experience pilot and all of their training and benefits definitely add up overtime.

Well... yes. I was thinking specifically of the Army cuts they are talking about. Jimmy ain't gonna be no fighter jock. The Air Force is currently facing a pilot shortage...
