Shapely.

Round corridor a bit less than perfectly round, but overall better...relative to the Wallguy batch of photos.

Just a bit less? That's embarrassing for next gen, it surprises me that they had the guts to want to show the game at this state of development on such a big magazine.

I hope they can put an impressive game, because the magazine pictures are truly disapointing.

Still needs some work. Like every Xbox 360 game. I have faith that this game will be a great launch title. If I'm wrong then whoopdidoo. I think some of you take pleasure out of seeing games fail.

That was meant as understatement, as saying "...relative to the Wallguy batch of photos" isn't meant as a ringing endorsement...

I'm only watching this game right now to see where the rollercoaster of varying impressions and screens takes us.

Has anyone wondered whether PDZ was actually made to showcase the Xbox360's power or if they were just concentrating on other areas?

I mean honestly folks, say the game looks JUST LIKE one of our better current generation Xbox games but it's fun as hell to play and supports over 50 players on Live(which that alone ought to tell you it's doing something quite more impressive then what we've had so far). Is that going to stop you from playing this game?

At least now we get better idea of what the parallax mapping does for floors and walls. With huge environments and 50 players at once this probably isnt possible on xbox 1.

Actually I think the single player shots look less impressive. Smaller environments and nothing that special effects-, detail- or lighting-wise. I sure had the expectation this will at least show much more detail in the environments.

And we're supposed to believe some no-name fansite got to see the "real" game? :lol

I do sorta hope the game is in-fact incredible, but I'm having an awfully hard time believing. The whole press conference yank incident still smells of deception.

"Everybody's got a price!"

I also don't understand why people are in such a rush to hate any positive impressions of this game. Listen Sony/Nbots, if in fact Perfect Dark Zero turns out to be a good game, it does not subtract value from your gaming life. Repeat: A good Perfect Dark Zero does not subtract value from your gaming life.

Eh... who am I kidding, just give in.

PDZ sucks, I guess. Microsoft am cry.

EDIT

You weren't the first to post this, so you'll get off with a warning. Next time = ban, though. Read the TOS if you have any questions.

One of the previews said it cant shoot through walls anymore.

Out of interest, why would the Farsight be in the game in the first place? To quote MGS3 it would be a time paradox, being that this is a prequel to the original where Joanna first met the lttle aliens (Mayens? Maiens? Maiens? Maiyens? I've totally forgotten what they are called :lol ) and the Skedar and their weapons.

Those EGM scans mention that that X-ray weapon is called the Shockwave rifle incase that is causing confusion. If the Farsight is explicitly mentioned as being in the game I would love to see the evidence as I haven't seen such a thing yet.

If you knew the first thing about the guy who wrote the piece, you'd also know that he's roughly the farthest you will get from an Xbox fanboy.

The only reason for me to stop pestering this game is that I'm going to walk into a game store, see PDZ on the shelf and buy it no matter what. It's really that simple. And it's based on the first game. Basically, it could be a Xbox 1.5 game or whatever the funk you want to call it, and I'm going to buy it because it's a sequel to Perfect Dark. I may not even remember doing it, it might be bought in a fugue state, but I'll end up with this game on day one guaranteed.

I got my EGM today, the game sounds extremely fun in MP if they can deliver on what they're shooting for, screw the graphics,it sounded like alot of fun.

As for PDZ, the behind closed doors demo was only on the multiplayer campaign. The Rare representatives were very self-conscious about the frame rate and other issues people have been complaining about. Don’t think that all of the banter on the web doesn’t get back to these people and affect them in a very real way. They stated that the single player storyline is highly guarded, so they don’t want to give anything away just yet.

The most interesting thing about PDZ was the gameplay mechanics. There are team spawn rooms. Spawn points that can be hacked and captured. Jet packs that transform into small robotic walkers. Secondary abilities like invisibility and X-ray vision that are attached to the weapons. You can steal people’s weapons and engage in fist-fights. While everyone was yelling about visuals they ignored these cool features.

:(

Wall Guy must have made them cry.

Anyways, as long as it means that they work harder for a better final product us gamers win.

Single Player - Takes place in 2019, telling the story of how Joanna was recruited and became a secret agent.

That's actually pretty smart of Rare. I guess they're aiming for it to be a present day shooter by the time its released.

any news on how they are acheiving 50 player online? Are MS setting up servers? powerful or not, Xbox 360 isn't going to magically increase my upload speed.

I can't imagine any other way to support that many in a fast action game but to have those supported by an MS server.

I also had Perfect Dark Zero demoed to me behind closed doors. I thought it was bloody amazing, especially the Shockwave rifle.

New? Old? Q&A at Xbox.com

Xbox.com: Why a prequel?

PDZ Team: We wanted to find out more about Joanna. Where did she come from? How did she turn into this "perfect" agent? What makes her tick? Setting the game a few years prior to Perfect Dark meant we could ground the universe better and keep Jo on planet Earth. It also meant we could use weapons inspired by those in the real world, to balance against the high-tech hardware available to Jo, her allies, and enemies.

Xbox.com: What elevates Perfect Dark Zero above standard first-person shooter fare? Are there stealth elements, A.I. teammates, vehicles?

PDZ Team: All of the above and a lot more. Anyone familiar with the Nintendo 64 title will have an idea of the kind of variety to expect.

Take Stealth, for instance. The game has many opportunities to be stealthy, with a few new moves introduced to assist this. Ultimately, the choice is the player's: Be stealthy or grab the biggest weapon you own, but you might have to deal with the consequences of not being stealthy.

A.I. Teammates are also there to assist a player who plays on his own, and some interesting things happen when another human joins in to help.

Vehicles feature heavily. Take the jetpack (a single user exoskeleton armed with twin guns having both air and ground capabilities). Plug away at the main body, target the weaker but harder-to-hit wings, or go straight for the pilot. Those are the options presented when in combat against a jetpack.

There are two types of multiplayer experience. If you want a more arcade-like multiplayer experience, then Deathmatch is for you. A tense tactical multiplayer is catered for in our DarkOps mode.

We have really striven hard for replay-ability. We wanted to give players a compelling reason to play story mode again and again. Multiple ways to achieve goals on the levels enhances this. We're not going to say how yet, but Xbox Live™ plays a big part.

Xbox.com: Will Elvis, everyone's favorite mischievous alien, make a cameo?

PDZ Team: You never know!

Xbox.com: What amount of time elapses between this game and the original title? What is the state of the world in this prequel versus the original? Can we look forward to more subtle conspiracy-laden story, or is the conflict more out in the open?

PDZ Team: PDZ is set three years before the original. It's business as usual: Giant corporations fight for control of the planet, working to achieve their shadowy objectives by any means necessary. Jo is thrown into this world of intrigue and conspiracy and meets many of the characters and organizations in the Perfect Dark universe for the first time. There are plenty of links to the original game, but because PDZ is an origin story, just like the Spider-Man movie, new players won't miss out on a thing. So yes, there's plenty of the cloak and dagger stuff, but that doesn't meant there can't be an explosion or two along the way.

Xbox.com: Can you give us a glimpse into some gameplay elements that weren't available in the first game, but are exclusive to Perfect Dark Zero?

PDZ Team: Here are two to start with … The Cover move allows player to be stealthy and see what's 'round the corner before deciding to jump 'round it. The Combat Roll move adds a new element to the combat. You can dive out of the way of enemy fire, but you're more vulnerable and cannot fire.

Xbox.com: Halo 2 introduced Web-integration and the matchmaking service for its online component. What sort of Xbox Live functionality will PDZ offer that will change the way we look at online gaming?

PDZ Team: The most obvious one is the ability to play against more than 50 players in multiplayer.

Player choice is now greater than ever. If you want to play on your own, that's great. And up to four players can play from a single machine locally or over Xbox Live. If human opposition is not your cup of tea, then add some bots that work both locally and over Xbox Live.

There's also a few more things we're going to reveal at a later date.

Xbox.com: Other than throwing waves of deadlier enemies at the player, how does Perfect Dark Zero offer a more organic challenge when switching from the easier difficulty settings?

PDZ Team: The difficulty levels are Agent, Secret Agent, and Perfect Agent. The player has more objectives on the harder difficulty settings. These aren't just "do an extra thing"; they make sections play totally differently. Someone going from Agent (easy) onto Secret Agent (medium) difficulty will get to an area and find that they cannot play that section the same way. They need to find a different solution to deal with the problems that are there.

When the player has finished a level, they can go back and play the level on the same difficulty and the experience will have changed. An example would be when you play the level on Agent (easy), get to a section with security cameras, memorize where they are, finish the level, and try it again. On the original, you would know where the cameras are, and then you could blast 'round the corner knowing you were safe. Not so on PDZ, but that's where the Cover move comes in handy!

Xbox.com: Perfect Dark was famous for having some of the coolest and most dynamic weaponry and gadgets ever seen. Can you give us a couple tidbits about new weapons and their unique abilities? Could you give us some dirt on your personal favorite new gadget and/or weapon?

PDZ Team: Here are five out of the 26 weapons in the game, all of which have secondaries that add new gameplay elements to the mix.

* The Phantom: The weapon of choice for stealth fanatics. It's an energy weapon with a secondary that allows you to cloak. It's a shame it needs to de-cloak to fire.
* The Laptop Gun: For tacticians. Throw this down and it turns into a sentry gun that shoots at enemy players. Put it down in a clever spot to reap the rewards.
* The RCP-90: For the paranoid. The secondary activates the threat detector mode, which highlights enemies (even cloaked ones) and hostile targets as red and friendlies as green. A cunning player can also use this to reprogram hostile enemy weapons such as the sentry gun.
* The Shockwave Rifle: A scout's dream. It's a sniper rifle with the powerful ability to see through walls, even revealing the skeletons of enemies. Line an unsuspecting enemy up as they come 'round the corner and—blam!
* The Psychosis Pistol: Loved by the truly evil. Mess with the minds of your opponents and turn enemies against each other.

Sounds awesome.

I'm sure there's not much more I can say that hasn't already been covered here, my preview will be on Kikizo tomorrow.

If anyone has any questions I'll be happy to try and answer them.

were the levels shown different from what we've seen on mtv and egm?

did you see wallguy and other enemies besides wallguy? how did they look?

which joanna model were they using? the one from the old? build or the new renders?

Any sightings of the Falcon 2?

Does Joanna/whatever model they used still position their hand sideways when shooting an enemy up close? I really liked that in PD.

How fast is the running speed, is it slow or fast?

Do enemies flinch when hit by gunfire? Do they slowdown, or does their speed remain the same?

Any blood when shot?

How impressive are the graphics from what you saw? Significantly better than what we've seen, or just a bit better?

I was only shown two levels of multiplayer, the desert one in EGM and a futuristic subway level complete with trains and vending machines.

I have no idea who wallguy is, I'm affraid. The Joanna render looked new.

The Falcon 2 seemed to be the defeault pistol, it's very pretty and Joanna holds it vertically upwards sometimes like in the old N64 screenshots.

I cant answer your next two questions. There's definetly blood, make no mistake this game is stunning and it definetly looks better in motion. Those EGM scans dont look as good as what I saw running, and the devs told me they are re-making most of the textures for the beta kits as well.

There didn't seem to be auto-aim but this was multiplayer.

Thanks espio, any word on when we'll get to see up to date screens and how long they've had the beta and their thoughts on it vs. the alpha kits.

Which parts sound like metroid?

first of all. sarcasm. i guess i should have put a ;) or a :P

ok. now.

this part:

"Other cool changes decorate the gameplay as well, most notably, the rolling dodge move, which essentially replaces the jump according to Rare. As they explained it, some FPS players become so experienced that they can actually anticipate the point where your head will rest when you land from a jumping dodge in many games, and get in an easy snipe. With the rolling dodge, though, you can actually change direction in mid-roll, though you take more damage if you’re hit in roll. The screen seamlessly switches from first- to third- and then back to first-person when you perform a roll, to allow you to easily perform the move. Ken Lobb boasts that he can actually roll around players and come up beside them, ready to pump them full of lead. Wicked cool, we say."

sounds pretty similar to metroid. especially hunters for the DS. .. not exactly the same as the roll move in mp... but similar. and thus. my joke.

Thanks, haven't played Metroid recently.

The biggest problem i've been having after seeing the images, is that i was under the impression that this was MS's big reason for people to buy a 360. This game is to be their new Halo as far as launch games go.

And as some have stated "even if the game does have Xbox 1 graphics, if the game is fun then that is all that matters". Well what a big pile of bullshit that is. I can find incrediblly fun games on my Xbox right now. The reason i'll spend all that money on a new console (at least initially) is for graphics. Graphics is what gives a person (again initially) justification for laying down such a large chunk of cash that's necessary in order to purchase a launch system and games.

And i don't want to hear the crap about "graphics aren't what's important it's all about the gameplay". That's bulshit as well. I expect both! And so should everyone else that is expecting PD0 to be MS key launch title.

MS did it with Halo so i'm hoping that they are able to do it with this game as well. The only problem is in every picture i've ever seen, it could have been confused for a really good looking Xbox 1 game. Now even if the game improves dramatically, it still probably won't look like a truly next-gen game, like GoW. GoW is about the only game on the 360 where i said yes!, that's why i'm spending all that money. I want GoW to be the rule, not the exception.

This gen, the majority of the gameplay could have been accomplished last gen, and i expect that trend to continue, which is why i think graphics will play such an important role next gen. And it's also why alot of people have been so underwhelmed my the 360 games presented so far. They just, for the most part, don't slap me in the face and say next gen has arrived. And that goes for the PS3 as well.

The only comfort i get from the 360 is the game GoW and the promise by MS that the games are running at only 1/3 of the power that will be possible on real 360 hardware. But does that mean that games (graphically) will improve 2 fold or just a little bit. But frankly, in order for those games to truly look next gen then it better be the "2 fold improvement" rather than the latter.

And for some reason, if i had to bet on if i think the game will end up coming together in the end and wow everyone, i wouldn't bet against MS. Don't ask me why either, i just think that there is no way MS would let their "key launch title" be anything less than spectacular.

Unless, as some have suggested, MS (after hearing the publics utter disapointment with the game) have decided that PD0 will not be pushed as the "the reason to get a 360" in favor of another game not so underwhelming.

If any of you folks are still ignoring reports like mine (which is the one this thread is written about), which are all pretty much saying the same stuff about how amazing the game actually looks, then there's very little comfort we can offer you until the game actually releases!

I am truly interested in about two game on 360, and this is one of them... if that says anything at all.
