This was mentioned in a interview with Famitsu, parts of which have been translated and posted on Twitter by Genki:

"- Not as Atlus, but for yourself, are you thinking about what to make next after Metaphor?

Hashino: Oh, I have already started.
- You are preparing the next one?

Hashino: I don't really think about what to do as an individual. I look at Atlas as a whole and think about what is best for our team to create right now. Firstly I want the users to be happy, and as a result I hope the company will be happy as well. That is how I always work."
"We (Studio Zero) are not going to disband after the release, so no matter what kind of work we create, I hope we can take on new challenges as a team." - Katsura Hashino

Metaphor has too much potential. I'm there day 1 whatever it is, so another new IP would be fine by me, but a Metaphor sequel would be so wild if they expanded on it.

Just...please don't make me wait another 8 years..

People criticise Ubisoft for repeating the same formula over and over again, but when it comes to Japanese Devs it just fine...
Reasons:
+cos the devs don't hate their audience
+cos the art direction is interesting and different to the norm
+cos the music is top tier which makes running through the motions more enjoyable
+cos the characters are well made
+cos the narrative has familiar themes people enjoy
+cos they've nailed down the formula and the execution is satisfying
+cos the gameplay is sharp and responsive

Your entitled to your opinion however what I will say is at the very least within that formula of a JRPG there’s an interesting story/narrative that keeps you engaged, are you really going to try and tell me any Ubisoft game you’ve played in the last ten years has had a compelling story?

You can have one or the other I think new systems/gameplay or engaging story but to have neither is a cardinal sin and Ubisoft are one of the worst companies for it.

Also take last of us for example that game didn’t really break any ground for a 3rd person shooter but because of its narrative voice acting and characters etc it was a critical darling that’s no different from metaphor and persona in my eyes.

Hopefully using unreal. P3 remake came out in a fraction of the time it took to make metaphor and runs/ looks much better.

Love the everything else about Metaphor though.
