Nocturne...is not this bad lol. Can't say I relate.

Btw Nocturne has too much blood in one segment of the game to get an E. Maybe like a hard T, depending on your stance on blood.

I also think people exaggerate Persona 3's darkness. Outside of the evoker thing (and evokers aren't even real guns) I never saw anything that dark from P3. The end of the world stuff at the end is a little depressing I guess (I personally preferred the game's atmosphere at the time, and it didn't 'get' to me or anything) but every JRPG has an end of the world scenario...

Finally I also think shielding a teenager from some strong language (which I'm sure she hears/reads on a daily basis) and some additional darker/depressing stuff in a game (which I'm sure is nothing that a teenager couldn't handle, however you expect her reaction to be, and btw Persona does feature teenagers as the main characters) is kind of pointless, but that's me.

The whole guillotine thing loses its impact because once the Personas are hit, they just turn into energy blobs instead of having their heads roll.

We are talking about the rating of the game based on the content of said game, it doesn't matter if it just happens once or several times, also, it's not only fusions
you also hang them or sit them on the electric chair. The part of the electric chair actually made me say out loud: "can't believe they did this", not because I was disgusted but because the quality of the animation.

Sure, you get used to it, but you're actually willing to do that to a persona to get a benefit. It doesn't hep that some personae are human-like beings so, what the ESRB are seeing is
A bunch of humans being tortured to benefit the player.
Can't you see how that would lead to a M rating?

I was mostly responding to what you said about the animations being shocking.
The guillotine isn't that bad for the reason I specified. There isn't even blood. I didn't see the electric chair yet btw.

Just for the rating, yeah I see why the fusions might contribute to the M rating. Though P5 would undoubtedly be rated M whether the fusions were like that or not.

I must say I thought that P4 was rated T, I just checked and that's not the case. You're right: even if those animations didn't exist the game would've received an M Rating anyways.

No I agree. I'm also not sure what the end goal of this shielding is for parents. Protecting kids' "innocence" longer? This accomplishes...?

A young kid I understand more as they're more impressionable, but a teenager?

In my experience as a parent one is so keyed into protecting one's kids that more often than not one is actively seeking out danger to defuse as opposed to just waiting for danger to manifest. The right balance between sheltering and affording appropriate opportunities for unfiltered experience and growth can be hard to find.

That's not to argue this specific case either way mind you.

So the only reason not to allow minors to drive and to drink is legal ramifications? There are neurobiological and physiological reasons adults are better equipped for both activities. Not really getting your point. My point, if you're not getting it, isn't that we should allow kids to drink and drive. Rather it's that we shouldn't necessarily cut ourselves off from reasonable adult pleasures (like Persona I guess?) just because minors aren't equipped to deal with them yet.

What are you talking about why would anyone ever think that after reading that?

Dude, your comparison is cringworthy that's all my point was there's is nothing about interpretations going wrong. For one it insinuates a kind of equivalency between both cases that somehow is supposed to prove/strengthen your point which it really doesn't it reads ridiculous putting both cases on the same level.

Fact of the matter is if someone decides to restrain themselves for their children, it's really non of anyone's business much less something being wrong with it or worthy of an argument against in most cases the argument is way more worth in the opposite case.

It's like you don't get there's this element of it being a nice act something you would do out of love/compassion, like my parents never ate chocolate cause I was allergic. Are you really going saying that's equal to them deciding to not let me drive or drink as a minor despite them doing it themselves, like what is going on.
But hey maybe they should have totally insisted on their adult pleasure of chocolate. /s

So while it's everyone's own business how they handle themselves this point about how we shouldn't cut ourselves off "adult pleasures" *eye rolling* for our children is incredibly daft. It's an incredibly weird point to make. Like while I'm reading I'm just shaking my head.

I finished Persona 5 and now my life is empty. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a game so much since Persona 4 was released. I can’t believe I’ve been waiting for this game for seven years. I feel so relieved that it actually managed to meet and exceed my sky high expectations. After the endless P4 milking through the years I'd kinda feared that I had gotten tired of the franchise, but from the moment I started this game I was in love again.

Also, this is one of the best voice acted games I’ve ever played. Felt like everyone in the all star cast really gave it their all. Which makes me extra bummed that the western release will be dub only.

I'm genuinely uncertain of what's got you so worked up on this. My initial questions to Robert were rhetorical to try and better understand how he was making his decision, not to establish logical equivalence. By calling his reason "weird" I suppose I came off as more judgmental when I was predominantly curious. Of course he can make parenting decisions according to his own lights and I won't think less of him for it. It just struck me as an unusual justification and I was attempting to draw out why.

Your chocolate example suggests your parents were very thoughtful. But I don't see how it bears on my questions. Abstaining from something your kid can't safely have (but you can) because you don't want them to feel left out is a nice thing to do, and I think it admirable - but not doing so wouldn't be hypocritical. I was explicitly questioning whether it's logically coherent to deny oneself something just because one deems it inappropriate for a minor, which was how he presented his decision.

After going back over all the post I apologize I actually somehow missed the hypocritical part in the post that started it. You trying to understand why he was labeling it as hypocritical leading to that line of questioning is a bit more understandable. I was truly under the impression that there was this weird argument going on trying to convince him that he should by all means go get the game and there wasn't anything wrong with it using the alcohol/driving thing as the argument which just seemed very perplexing + your whole explanation that followed about cutting yourself of from adult pleasures added just more to my misunderstanding.

Ah, that makes sense! In conjunction with my initially unintentionally snarky tone I could easily see coming to that interpretation (which would indeed make me out to be pretty off base) if missing my initial focus on the question of hypocrisy.

Anyway, as you correctly state, it's really not a big deal whether he plays or not or what the justification is. I really was just genuinely curious - as a parent I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about how my actions might impact my kids, so I gravitate toward these discussions, although this is now way off topic.

It's not just the language. It's more along the lines of P3/P4 were on the edge for me and hearing that P5 is noticeably darker/edgier (bumped up a rating in Japan, more explicit language in the US) means I should probably skip it. Plus I have children and need to be a good example. Telling my teenage daughter who loved P4 that she can't play P5 because it's inappropriate and then turning around and playing it myself would be rather hypocritical IMO.

Eh, P4G was rated C and so is P5. So I don't know about the bumped up rating. Sure some themes may be darker than Persona 4, but it's not like crazy dark or anything. It's still pretty light hearted a lot of the time.

Can't really say anything on the language because that comes down entirely to what the localisation team decides to do. At least the language in the Japanese version isn't any different than in P4.

Eh, most players get pretty desensitized to the evoker animation. It stops being nerve-racking fairly early on. Meanwhile, Nocturne is like a non-stop assault on your senses. Even if it's not overtly graphic, it's the details that get you.
Eh.

What.

Nocturne's great, but it's, like, nothing.

Also the execution fusion in P5 is surprisingly grim. I was genuinely surprised.

fortune/fate coop spoiler?

how does her parameter boost work. does it boost parameter gain on your next activity that gives it so you don't actually get any points until you do stuff or do you pay 5k and get parameter points?

9/22:

Already played for 100 hours and apparently I still have a long way to go.

Maxed my first SL (The Moon), I was going to Max Ryuji first but I already saw his persona and I don't like it... wish we had the option to choose between his old and the new persona. I'll Max that SL next month I guess, going to focus now on the next SL: Lovers > Death > Empress > Tower >then Maybe Yusuke.

About the dungeon of this month:

I'm liking it a lot, although I got annoyed my whole party was cursed twice and had to do the same area three times. The music is great and the dungeon itself reminds me of Mega Man X: Command Mission somehow. I already bought some accessories that recover SP between turns. It's probably one of the first thing I'll do when I play the English version.

I still don't know what to do with that mission in Mementos that led me to meet "King", can I just do it now? I haven't even returned to Mementos since I want to progress in the story first.

You need to do the actual parameter-rising stuff do get the bonus. For some reason it doesn't seem to work on activities whose primary function is boosting that parameter (or maybe it does but you don't get the visual confirmation through the notes?).

Like, if you choose the academics bonus you won't get an additional point studying in the family restaurant but you'll get it with the television quiz or the Star Co-op.

It's best used for Co-ops that additionally raise parameters.

If you
started the Tower co-op you can finish the Mementos mission. You just need to use the auto-down shot skill you get for opening the Tower co-op.

Also a warning if you're trying to max most or all of your co-ops: I know
Sun
needs to be maxed (or at least at rank 9?) by
mid-November
, and I've heard
Moon
,
Chariot
, and
Temperance
also need to.

I was disappointed in the
Casino's
music for what I felt should have been an ominous and important dungeon. Visually, the back rooms are some of the worst looking areas in the game, which is a bit disappointing. They just don't work.

But I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Reached October...this game is the gift that keep on giving.

I've finally realised so many things about why my préparations weren't perfect in the first months.I've picked a girlfirend, for some reason the reaper co-op storyline impressed me enough i went for it.
I've maxed ryuji co-op in august , and i'm on the verge of maxin out Anne and tae ( both are LV 9) . I was hesitating on the star co-op because i really liked
how she behaved both in the the storyline and during how she changes between her normal state and how she is when she plays
..But hey sometimes you have to make a decision.

Overall , october is looking to be CRAZY.

But i'm kinda worried about what you keep when you start NG+ ..Do you keep your stats ? your gear ? Your current level ?
I think i've wasted SO MUCH time trying to max out my stats , i definitely didn't take a great approach. ( And i'm already planning ) on how to fix that
----------
Currently my favorites personas are :
See the pattern ?. i think i'm turning out well in my life choices :)

My holidays have started this morning ... this means ...MORE TIME TO PLAY PERSONA 5.!!! [rejoice theme song]

Really? I thought the music was a nice change of pace, but those blue hallways do look pretty lame I'll admit. I still thought every other section of it looked beautiful, and the "gimmick" for that dungeon was a bit of fun.
Next dungeon is amazing all round, best in the game.

I may not be able to Max

, maybe I can max
Sun
.

Just started the third dungeon. Only at the beginning but I'm supposed to look for some way
to activate the lift? but I have been kind of going about in circles and 3rd eye isn't revealing anything much
(or I might have missed it?)

Also...I'm into June but I have a curious question..I keep on seeing "watched the DVD" as one of the vox pop options at night but I don't really know where to go to trigger it.

Do I happen to get more equipment e.g TV in my room as the story goes by, or do I have to purchase them on my own? If so, any handy places to get them from? Thanks!

A++++ , 10/10 Magnificent ... Goddamit this game.

October Stuff ( Spoilers )
Damn this month of october, I don't have enough words for HOW MANY bombshells and twist this game threw at me.
The month of october is many times more packed with voices than the previous but if this was the only things that needed voice then so be it.

How to start , The bonding of the team on the roof of the school and the trip to destiny land, that was good. And then the first twist. I saw this one coming since the game did show me the end of the events in the space station but goddamn , this chain of events .. it was brutal.

That trap was nearly perfect. The loss of the support , the progress bar slowly falling day after day , the stressfull exams , the fact that they got accused of the principal death.

Man what a month !
But i thought that was enough , the game wasn't done with me. Damn thay 25th of october, The 26th was such a tense scene on stage...especially with makoto doubling down on the "bluff" .. I didn't have time to recover and then sojiro found futaba calling card !! OMG.
Futaba , you're such a strong girl , damn i know why you're so popular.. i'm rooting for you!!
The dialog with sojiro was simple , but you felt the scene.
AND This damn game wasn't done with my poor heart.
Ryuji anger in the following days sold the deal , this cast is fantastic. The line deliveries , the sudden challenge throw at them. The twists . I welcome all of them. That was masterfull. There isn't a single NPC or PC that is dislike after 82 hours. How is that possible ? ( Not counting the bad guys , you're supposed to dislike them )

THIS GAME is freaking magnificent. i didn't know i could enjoy this game more than i did.

Ps: the 6th dongeon music is the stuff of the gods. I'm not kidding
The dongeon music in this game is freaking fantastic.

Back to sleep, i need to play persona 5 tomorrow

Damn the music of the 6th dongeon ...sqo good. SO GOOD

Well this sucks. I didn't know one of the status effects the fourth boss can hit you with will eventually kill you after a number of turns, and I had neither the right party members, right accessories, nor the right items to deal with it, so if the MC got it it was essentially a game over...

Don't feel like fighting against RNG so I'll just take the L and start the whole fight over this weekend. Oh well. :p

That aside Hard Mode is pretty fun. Alongside the strength boost the enemies have also started to get more interesting attacks and weaknesses/strengths.

Oh my god, I can't believe the social commentary direction this is going in! Wow!

lmao, that whole time I was just thinking
someone needs to get Phoenix Wright on the case

Anyway, mid-late November massive spoilers:

My face during the entire
final interrogation
:

Managed to make it through on my first go. I don't know how much of the conversation you needed to get right with Sae but apparently I got enough. I was really hesitant at the "so are these your partners" line because it's like, you already explicitly said as much dude, so I was waffling back and forth on playing dumb versus showing Sae trust. The game pretty much beats you over the head with "trust your partners" right beforehand though.

Things I was right about: the interrogation room being in Sae's palace (though I was wrong about when it was there), Akechi being the killer (I so wanted him to be innocent, but alas), Shidou being the mastermind (though that one's pretty obvious.) Things I was wrong about: basically any idea I had about what was going to happen on November 20th, lol. Clapped my hands when I caught on to what was happening.

I actually noticed the pancake thing waaaaaaay back when it happened but I forgot about it even when they showed the fuzzy flashback during the interrogation, so I was kind of like "okay I'm pretty sure Akechi's evil but what's the basis" for a while.

That said, holy shit is that ever an exposition dump afterwards. I mean, I get it, it's kind of necessary for them to get across what happened and there's a lot of moving pieces, but it does feel a little... clumsy? Especially when they cut to Akechi and Shidou having a very long "as you know" conversation about their entire evil history together immediately afterwards, lol.

Anyway December let's go

The night you return, did you talk to Futaba in your room? She goes into a lot of detail on what everyone else was doing during the interrogation, as well as the preparation for emergencies that could have cropped up.

Thanks for the heads-up though!

I completely missed out on that in my first run because you're asked if you want it, and I answered いいです or something which turned out to be the refusal option. Japanese is a funny language...

holy shit yusuke's 'i don't care that you're unlocking a treasure bo- WOAH WHAT THE FUCk' animation is hilarious
The best opening treasure animation. Makoto's hand over her mouth animation is cute, too.

i mean, that'd be like "I'm good", which I kinda get as a refusal...

What's your team & persona you have at your disposal ? ( really curious ) . The bank didn't gave me that much trouble.

it's not really that it's difficult... I just get careless because I'm playing in braindead mode...

The impressions certainly don't make the wait any easier, but I'm really glad that P5 seems to live up to (almost insane) expectations. Hopefully we'll see more from Atlus on the same level soon.

If that can help you , so far This dongeon is my least favorite ( BY far ) so you can expect a really insane improvement in dongeon design after you've cleared this one.

I'm at Death cooperation level 7.

May I know which shop carries the
SP regen
accessory that you unlocked through Tae?

If it is located at Untouchables, is it the item that costs 5000 yen and says something about
SP10UP...or am I looking at the wrong item?

Ahhh dammit missed the second tab. Thought it was used for selling stuff to her. Thanks.

At the very beginning of the 3rd dungeon, anyone know how to
operate the lift to make it go down or something?

Been running around the first and second floor but couldn't find anything with the 3rd eye..might have missed something.

Sorry for the endless questions.

Hopefully you know by now but if not:
You have to enter to a room where you can get on the roof of the elevator and that will take you to other floors below

Yup. Can't believe I missed that part. D'oh.

Getting the
SP regen
accessory is such a lifesaver
though it's slightly game-breaking in a sense? Physical attacks+Morgana having free Media heal all day!

Just kind of wondering...do you automatically get more items in the protagonist's room as the story goes on, or are you supposed to buy those from a particular place?

Actually, I tried experimenting a few different ways, and it seems
you only need to answer the first question "correctly". None of the others make a difference.

You need to buy them. The second hand store in Yongenchaya sells a TV and later a retro game console I believe, and you can buy more games for it in (location spoilers)
Akihabara
.

Beside the stuff that was already mentioned.
The big shelf as well as the space near your plant can only be filled with items you can get when you take coop people on a date(not to be mistaken with Slink advancing events) to the right place.
The other thing with which you can fill your room with are figures to put atop your tinkering work desk which you can only get by winning the crane game in Akihabara.
