Hum... he wasn't talking about P3 only. He is mentionning other games that indeed Atlus step up its game in them (gameplay, exploration). If you never played these games, no you can't argue wit his examples... Because, yes, I played EO serie and oh god they're fucking deep and good in term of gameplay. I didn't played yet SMT but EO is for me the master of turn based rpgs.
I've played almost every single MegaTen game in English. The only games I have in Persona to compare 5 with all have weaker dungeon designs (those being P1, P2: IS, P2: EP, P3 and P4). I enjoy them all for various reasons, some more than others (aside from P3's dungeon, which I dislike greatly). I could argue that P1's dungeons are actually kind of underrated, P2's are rather forgettable aside from the nice music and P4's dungeon designs are decent but again random generated. I can't wrap my head around anybody arguing that P5 has "weak" dungeon designs in comparison to those but okay, whatever. Opinions and all that.
EDIT: I agree with Cindi's opinion that mainline SMT has the best dungeon designs that Atlus put out, but P5 is still a great step towards getting closer to SMT's.
Ah, if you enjoy EO, you should get Deep Strange Journey (enhanced port of Strange Journey) when it comes out since it's got similar first person dungeon crawling. Soul Hackers is great on the interim, if that pleases (it's old school as hell, though, so be forewarned). I mean, there's also SMT games on PSN if you have a PS3, they're all classics.
