Persona 5 |OT2| Someone must have been helping you go to bed early. Talk!

Not even that for me. I don't mind hand crafted dungeons, I just think that the marriage between P5s dungeons and it's stealth mechanics are wonky and that the combined result isn't actually deserving of the praise it's getting compared to random generation.

The dungeons are fine as far as pre-generated dungeons, some of them are even impressive and it certainly gives more scope for more intricate puzzles than the 1 or 2 setpiece floors per dungeon in P4.

But there's a certain dull monotony to hiding behind an object while waiting way to long for an enemy to walk into range that really doesn't blend well with multi-hour dungeons that dragged the overall experience down for me.

Or getting stuck in a corner and needing to destealth to get back into position due to the weird positioning of some hiding spots while having to wait for an enemy to walk to where they won't see you when you leave stealth.

Its certaintly bothered me less as the game went on and I got a better handle on how fine you can cut things and which hiding places are likely to get you "stuck" but first impressions last and mine was that 5 overvalued atmosphere compared to flow.

Sorry but to me this is nitpicking of the highest degree.
It's not perfect, but moving from cover to cover is so snappy and there are so many hiding points that approaching an enemy is quick and painless. Maybe ocasionally you have to wait a couple of seconds for an enemy to come into range but if that's an issue for you your problem is more with stealth as a mechanic itself, not with P5 in particular.
Between how fast the characters run and how quickly you can move from cover to cover (and you remain undetectable while doing it) traversal could hardly be quicker unless the stealth mechanic was removed entirely.

tbh my main beef is the stealth mechanic is largely boring (and the camera restrictions blow chunks... and that 'move to new area' is the same as 'attack'...)

there's usually a designated correct route through a thing. i mean far be it for me to expect dishonored from persona 5, but there sure isn't any sense of freeform movement.

whatever. the real crime is as i've said before that every dungeon is about 20% longer than i was ready for

This is my first ever Persona game and I have to say I'm quite impressed. It's different to anything I've played before and I value that. It's fucking stylish as fuck too.

Still working on wrapping my head around the many elements to the "social" aspect and managing my time. I'm on 4/23 I think (so before I need to complete the first palace properly) so I'm currently spending my time trying to find thigns to do and people to see.

PREACH.

The clunky camera makes the stealth part awkward.
The fact that you can hide in plain sight of a shadow, just to have your controller vibrate and fight with the stupid right stick to pleasepleaseplease turn the camera wide enough in that 10° angle you get to play with to freaking target the shadow already...

I had a lot of bad encounters due to struggling with controlling the stealth parts. I got wiped a few times.
I'm not saying I couldn't try to just get better at it - but there seems no pay off at all in trying to "master" these. When "master" simply means to cheese them properly.

The only time I disliked stealth was in Palace 5, where it was just poorly implemented.

Other than that, it was a neat way to traverse dungeons. Not mindblowing, but it sold the thief concept well.

The stealth would be better if hiding wasn't so finicky. The way you stick to some surfaces is really bad. Altho it's not hard to ambush right away. Game is generous with how long they would notice you.

You'll never see it coming.

Amazing

the stealth mechanic isn't great due to the wonky camera restrictions, but once you get used to it it rarely fails to be satisfying. Definitely better than the ole walk up to the mob from behind and smack him

That's pretty much what I spent the entire game doing tbh. I found the stealth mechanic a bit fiddly to control, so most of the time I'd just stand around a corner/off the AI path, sprint up behind the enemy and launch an ambush that way.

The only time I ever really felt the need to engage the stealth mechanic was if I was getting towards high alert. I'd hate to get kicked out of a palace over something so completely avoidable.

I'll agree that the stealth isn't perfect and didn't work as intended from time to time, but the camera thing rarely got in the way for me and it felt like a deliberate element to add some risk to it, you can advance unnoticed but your field of vision is limited, so you have to use it along with the map to make sure you don't expose yourself when an enemy is near.

But yeah other than that, at some point it just clicked for me and traversal with stealth only became very snappy and smooth.

I think the game is a little too easy on Normal.

That's putting it lightly

yea but even when you handle it that way, its a more satisfying flow. Its designed well enough that you dont have to worry about missing or anything due to a random last second movement. The animation is satisfying as well.

I'm in mid October and have essentially run out of daytime confidants to do, outside of tower. I apparently can't progress with Futaba until I can go back into Mementos, which I can't because reasons, and everyone else is maxed. On the other hand I have my hands full with evening links. All my social stats are maxed but guts, so I guess I'm just eating burgers every day.

It definitely feels like they expected you to spend more time in Palaces/Mementos, guess I have been abusing the SP Adhesive too much.

Doesn't entering palaces/mementos affect progression on day and night confidants equally since you can't do either when going there?

I do play on normal and struggle quite a bit.
Palace 5 End Boss nearly broke me.

It's clear that I'm not fusing demons to full potential, and I am too stingy to fully gear up once new stuff goes into the gear shops...
... but I feel unless you grind, "Normal" is actually a "Normal" difficulty if you play it "normally". When you've played Persona before, and know what you are doing + grind (I never do this Reaper stuff...), that might be different.
I guess the problem is that Hard is a pretty harsh step up, so for some players you're stuck between "a little too easy" and "harsh".

BUT while saying this, even though I struggled a lot in Palace 5 with the end boss, after my latest Mementos visit and gearing up with all those billions of yens I amassed from there, I now feel pretty underwhelmed by Palace 6 and its difficulty.

I got close to dying a few times, but that said, I'm a bit bad at this game (and the stealthing...).
I am suddenly coasting through however. That didn't happen before!
Defeating trash mobs with normal attacks only. Whoo.
After Palace 5 Endboss EVERYBODY gained a level and then some. So I was somewhat underleveled? When
Akechi
joined my party, he was 3 levels above Joker.
I got to catch up a bit in Mementos, but either being Level 38 and Level 42 are a much bigger difference then before, or the game gets weirdly easy in the late dungeons for no reason.

LMAO. I can't even imagine what part of the palace you are referencing. I don't remember anything like this at all.
I have no idea what you're talking about, lmao

Apologies for my vagueness. More palace 4 SPOILERS below...

After the boss fight is over, the squad is running down the (now collapsing) pyramid when Ann throws Morgana ahead so he (or she, depending on which Morgana you went with) can transform into the bus. Once transformed, the squad enters through the back of the bus, which when opened up, resembled a large asshole of sorts.

I tried to find a YouTube video of the cut scene, but no go.

PS - I. LOVE. THIS. GAME.

EDIT - Here's the video, for reference.

I know exactly which part because my girlfriend made the same comment.

Go watch the anime cutscene when the palace is collapsing. You'll see.

Oooh. Lol. I get what you guys are saying. I thought there was some game cutscene in the palace that I missed or his picture was in the puzzle or something.

Now that you mention it, I guess that was what it was. Haha. I didn't even really think about it when I first saw the scene. I'm semi-surprised no one in the cast mentions it later

Lmao the Morgana thing. The only reason I saw it like that is because before getting to that part I read someone say Morgana "went full goatse" so I was extra alert when watching that cutscene.

Playing on a difficulty setting that beat suits you is fine, that's the point of them after all. My beef with normal mode is that IMO is way too easy to the point that it does a disservice to the game's depth.

I think the standard difficulty in a game with many settings should at least ask that the players uses all mechanics available in some capacity and offer enough challenge to make sure the player doesn't skip them or uses them wrong, but Normal in P5 is so easy that battles for the most part will end before you even get the chance or feel the need to use stuff like baton pass. You do so much damage with weaknesses that sometimes it's hard to even get a hold up because you kill enemies by accident, and that's not even touching on how broken AoA's are.

The game being often so easy makes it so that any difficulty spike like some clever boss like Madarame or enemies using insta kills seems cheap, because the rest of the game never asks you to be prepared for stuff or strategize after all.

I think hard is fine and I never really needed to grind for anything, but perhaps a slightly easier version of that setting should be the standard, and the current Normal setting should be Easy, and so on.

And well, it's just frustrating to read people say the game is mindlessly easy and you only have to presst R1+X to win, because that's only the case on Normal and lower.

Didn't like the final boss music that much at first, but after lots of listening to the soundtrack is becoming of my favorite tracks in the game. It's making me miss the game :(

Now that I finally finished the game I can say with certainty that it was waaay tooo long. I still think it's a great game, but there are only so many hours in a day and I'm the kind of person who prefers to play only one game at a time.

So it took me a month and a half to beat... As much as I enjoyed the last third I did so at the expense of fast forwarding confidant progression stories to keep things moving. :) I'll just read them later.

And the next game on the list is Nioh... Why can't days be 70 hours long? :)

Can we just appreciate how savage Makoto is if you don't have your Intelligence high enough when you speak to her?

That's when I knew she was the one lmao, I appreciated the bluntness.

The charm one did kind of annoy me though, since it wasn't actually coming from her, making me wonder why I had to raise it for some random dude.

Yusuke is the GOAT.

His lines are consistently amazing, easily one of the most entertaining squadmates in the entire series.

Spoilers for late August:
The freaking lobsters on the beach. Amazing.

Agreed. He's just hilarious. His banter with Futaba gets better and better actually

What's amazing about Yusuke is that his humor is very subtle. He's actually very well written. Reminded me of certain comedy shows.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

For real. Just thinking about the game or listening to the soundtrack gets me nostalgic even tho I just beat the game yesterday.

I really wanna start another playthrough but that wouldnt be fair to my backlog. Maybe Ill finish Zelda BotW and Nier Automata before coming back to it

I bought it at launch and am still at the third palace. I only wish I had the time to beat a game of this size in a month and a half.

After finally seeing every awakened Persona I have to say they're probably my favorite Persona designs in the series thus far overall. Futaba's is just about the only one I'm not keen on, but her starting Persona is pretty whatever as well, so no loss.

On the (presumably) last day, in the final dungeon, and I have every confidant maxed save
the Fool
. I still can't believe I managed that on a first playthrough.

Well, thanks to the fact that this was the only game I played I can finally truthfully answer in online surveys how much I play video games. I't about 10-14 hours a week :)

I think im at the very last part of the game.
Memento deep

The difficulty spike is BRUTAL.

Enemies are savage, RNG is nightmarish (every enemy chains critical, they dodge, they have HP pool worthy of bosses...

And it's right after the previous dungeon with no time spared to equip myself in coffee, curry and other medecine. I'm at the safe house I have no idea how long it is, if I can go back or what lies ahead but I'm getting seriously mauled here...

level 67 all team confident maxed out... Playing on Easy... Is this a true ending dungeon or something ? It feel so punishing and I really hate these enduring battle against the SP drought

I was getting destroyed in a battle in Palace 5 when Futaba jumped in with Moral Support and Ann healed Makoto's status ailment. I almost cried tears of relief and I won :D
