Anime and general P5 thoughts.

Hmmm. I think I actually agree with Goro. Reforming someone and forcibly altering their heart and desires are two separate things. One aims to make an individual rationally come to the conclusion that what they're doing is not right, but its not a garunteed thing that the subject will agree with, while the other is literally reaching into their subconscious and changing their beliefs which is in my opinion absolutely a type of brainwashing and is wrong

I think it'd be neat if a government/new group try to reform the phantom theives, in a different way and make them see that while they're trying to do the right thing, they're going about it the wrong way. Or maybe like in the previous two games there will be an end game deity, and its purpose this time is making the world and the phathom thieves specifically realize that they're doing the wrong thing.

They briefly go over their motives in the anime.
Yusuke says if they just make sure they get arrested they won't know if the culprits won't just continue once they're released. Means they don't trust the system to reform the prisoners. We will probably learn more about their motive when Playing the game.

In addition most of the time they're directly involved and in these cases it's much harder to be neutral. I also think it makes for a more interesting story if the protagonists aren't sitting on the high horse when it comes to morals.

Although I don't really expect them to be anti heroes.

To be fair,
prison (at least in our part of the world) isn't exactly known for making people turn over a new leaf. Quite the opposite.

So on that front, I definitely understand where they're coming from

I watched the anime and I understand their motives, and like A Dead Diehard said, I understand where they are coming from especially in regards to the busted criminal justice system, and even more especially Japanshowever I don't agree with their methods either. That's not to say I dont like it as a story telling device, I find it incredibly interesting that the main characters are a bit ammoral. And of course they're anti heroes, they're actual thieves for one and they might end up actually hurting and killing someone as well. They're trying to make yhe world a better place, but they are in no way 100% innocent themselves. All this is just my own opinion of course.

I just finished the P5 animation. All I can say is... WOW. I really like the respect that Joker seems to have with the crew. Like crazy high respect. Even more than the respect Minato and Yu received from their teams (generally). I also like the dynamic of the crew. Everybody bounces off each other naturally. My favorite moment...
that super hype music when Kazuya turned into a monster

I also feel like the crew in P5 is actually having fun with that they're doing compared to what Yu and Minato was doing.

EVERYONE was having more fun compared to P3MC's crew.

Well, it makes sense: in 3 they had sort of a solemn duty that only they could carry out or else people would continue to die. In 4 they were racing against a serial killer. Here in 5, they all seem really really compelled to enact justice. It seems cathartic for them, and that's pretty much what Hashino said he was going for.

In my defense... !!! UHHHH... in MINATO'S defense.... (lmao)

Hahah that's why I always kinda laughed whenever I heard the battle cries of P3's crew in fights. Junpei would be like, "I'm da man!" and I'm like.... "So you guys ARE enjoying the Tartarus????"

You summed it up perfectly.

I can't wait until the inevitable crisis of conscience hits the group when one of their capers goes awry and they ruin some person's life.

They're too close knit for that to happen. If somebody starts to doubt... Anne would prolly slap the person back into sense and Joker would just look at them like, "Put your trust in me. I know what I'm doing."

If there was anyone enjoying it, it was the two stupidest (or at least boneheaded) people on the team.

That seems pretty much inevitable. Not looking forward to how they botch their reasoning for going on. :/

The insults.... it hurts :(

P5 crew is justified in what they're doing.... I think. It's hard to say they're corrupted after watching how good they were in the P5 animation.

Actually not quite sure how this would happen. A part of stealing their heart is that the team is facing their shadow that goes on about their own personal crime.

Of course, I guess it could be like Nanatame possibly.

NESpowerhouse

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
PQ Aki is a fool but regular Aki is actually a cool headed guy.

But P4A Akihiko is big enough of a dumbfuck to get his wallet stolen while out in South American slums.

Probably had to suck some serious dick to get back home.

Is also a protein addict.

Look at your avatar and know it to be true.

Hey, now! Don't go making assumptions!

(even though you're completely right)

I'd make a coy joke about those two possibly being connected, but...

well, I guess I just did. :/

Sooo if I watch the P5 anime, I won't be spoiled for the game right? Or would it be better if I wait till the game's release to get to know the characters from zero?

lol

All the animation does is give people hope and smiles that we are in for a cool magical ride in Persona 5. Seriously, watch it. UNLESS you are in a true "media blackout" then don't watch it.

That reminds me that we haven't heard English VA... yet.

Except for Morgana's voice actress that we heard from during E3 2016.

Those Persona 5 rubber straps and the mask motiffs with the new Arcana signs are a welcome sight.

While I like the art and design, I feel like too much of the Persona 5 merchandise have been making use of the same art assets (official profiles, all out attack portraits and the likes).

Nice to see some merch that differs a bit from that Persona 5 MC doing the crouching thing for the umpteen time.

Anyone else concerned that Morgana seems to constantly be around the protagonist during the day segments? The videos Atlustube have been posting seem to indicate that she's in his bag basically all the time. I fear that she'd get old really quickly. God knows Teddie did and he didn't have nearly as much screentime, especially early on.

She's the protagonist's constant companion and essentially replaces some of the narrator dialogue that was in previous games. She also seems a lot better than Teddie personality-wise.

It will also make it sadder when something happens and she's gone for a certain amount of time with her text replaced by narrator descriptions.
