Petals around the rose (puzzle)

Ah yeah, I've seen that before. Took me a bloody day of going back and forth to it to get it.
The problem is when you overanalyze the situation and try to treat it like an actual mathematical problem.
 
Got it on the 4th roll after fluking the first guess, and noticing that the 2nd and 3rd rolls had the same end number but different answers.
 
got it on the 2nd try since my first roll scored a 0 and didn't really tell me anything.
 
I love how if you actually read down the person that liked this game took well over a year to figure this out, and then says, "if it takes you as long as a year that means you are smarter!"

Took me about 10 minutes to figure it out. I don't believe you are smarter if it takes you longer to solve it ... it just makes you more analytical. Those who solve it quicker I believe are more creative and are unconventional thinkers.
 
hahaha, i figured it out the first try as well, though i sat there and thought about it for a few minutes before playing.
then i read down and said to myself, "hey! i'm an idiot!".

I think that's just a joke. It might show how you think.
I really didn't bother to think that the name had anything to do with it. Dumb, I know, but I just saw a collection of numbers and an answer, so I tried working from there. After that, I started encorporating the name as a clue, but by then, I had complicated it so much that it still took awhile.

I think knowing that the dice have something to do with it also makes it easier. If someone just broke out some dice and started doing it at some random gathering or whatever, it might not be so clear.
 
I think I know why it was harder to figure out last time. Last time we had a different site, and it DIDN'T start the game with all 1's. The all 1's beginning is making the answer easier to see.

except that, at least for me, if you hit check while its still all 1's you find a bug in the program where it thinks you got it correct and the answer is blank. =P

That's cause the answer is 0.

no, if the answer is actally 0, it says there are 0 petals around the rose!
for the all 1's, it says there are _ petals around the rose!
 
Never heard of this before, but I have to say it's pretty obvious.
The first time I didn't know WHAT to answer, but after the correct answer displayed it was clear
 
Ok, finally fucking got it. Stupid math, wasting my time...
 
This version is also saying "There are _ Petals around the rose" which makes it much more obvious that the name is important. The last one was just "The Answer is _"

I gave up after about 15 seconds. Then I read all the replies and it kind of made it click.

It's a visual thing as much as it is a mathematical thing. Think of the name.
 
so dumb people get this on there first couple of tries? I can't figure it out. I"m over analysing.

However, the
title is incorrect as it doesn't incorporate the idea of many roses... "how many petals around the rose?" should be "how many petals around the roses?"...but then the whole thing would be obvious.
STUPID QUESTION =(
 
God damn I have more important stuff to study for (Structural Analysis) then to mess with this But i will feel really dumb if I can't get it.
 
I finally got it :(

I looked at the url and noticed it was roses. Then thought, "geeh what a coincidence."
 
Took me a few minutes.
I really don't see how anyone could possibly solve it right away, the first few times there usually is an alternative pattern that holds true. I started counting different things each time, going nowhere but eventually
I started to wonder WHY it was called petals around the rose in the first place. So I guess if you're wondering about this right away, it becomes much easier
