Don't know if the "dream" sequences are official art work or in-game, but if they are in-game, then it looks like Rolf's nightmares of the Alis / Dark Force encounters got expanded a bit. Nice.
 
I fear replaying this game w/o a strategy guide. I think I've lost mine from the Genny version (maybe Mom kept it...). I had a total nightmare trying the GBA one again. I got to the first or second dungeon post-Nei and gave up.
 
I need to know what system this is for before I can comment.

I remember my cousin drew lines on all the maps showing how to get through the dungeons! :lol

I did that too! Labeled all of the chests with the list of chest contents, and labeled all of the transporters and stairs to tie them all together!

(There were quite a few errors in that guide, I'll have you know!)
 
PS Trilogy is supposed to include the Sega Ages remakes of PS I, II, and IV. As to when it hits... ???

That January release date seems unlikely.
 
OMG I just fell out of my chair... Fucking amazing... Nei's artwork doesn't look that great though - her ears are too big :(

She seems to like fine in combat, but her portrait and cutscene art are TERRIBLE. :(
 
Nei doesn't look so good in those portraits...and what happened to the beautiful battle grid? It should be there, at least as an option...

Otherwise, bring it on!

Is this the version that will be included in the Phantasy Star Trilogy in the States?
 
in-game graphics are much, much better than the HIDEOS ps1 remake's, but they borked the character art. :/
 
to tell the truth, original PS series artstyle is not that good to begin with, it's generic 80's anime...bubblegum crisis style stuff, though the costumes and weapons are top notch. PSO had great art as well. so this isnt that much of a degradation or improvement style wise. nei's ears are of course, too big.
still amust buy regardless, so this is included in this so called ages trilogy remake?
cant wait for part 4, personally.

I disagree. I REALLY loved the portrait art for the characters in PS2 Genesis. Rolf looked controlled and noble, Nei looked perpetually tragic, Shir was a complete badass. They were simple, but really emotive, imho. This is just... blah. Generic anime, as you said. Rolf looks alright, I guess, but Nei. UUUuuugh.

Yes, this is true. PSO art was a godsend for this series. Maybe we'll see something different when Phantasy Star universe releases
 
Rolf's silent gaze during the tragic endgame still gives me shivers. I hope they don't fuck that up by changing his expression.

Or giving him dialogue/voice.
 
yeah I'm not digging the art at all..they changed it too much. the ps1 remake characters looked good. Rolf doesn't even has a headband anymore and i liked his old hair style better.
 
He does still have his headband. Like in the topright-most pic of the scan, where he's talking to Nei.

Edit - Whoa. In that bottom, center pic, with the crossed swords & shield spell effect... Is that a large, ghostly image of Alis? Awesome.
 
Allsome. It would be nice if they put this on Xbox/Gamecube and it unlocked stuff on PSO. Or put PSO on PS2. Either way. Maybe PS Universe?

big improvement over Generation 1, IMO. not totally pleased with the artwork but the in-game stuff looks awesome.

cannot wait to see the 'scene' with Darum and Teim (2 NPCs)
 
hope when this comes out that the translation features the original character names. of course, what would be neat is the option to pick, actually. (and i wonder if you can still rename them?)

the japanese names are (except nei) totally different from the US names.

I was kind of fond of some of the names for the original English PS releases. Oh and someone needs to lop some of the ear off of Nei.
 
The dams rocked! They were hardcore. Though, some of the final dungeons... those went BEYOND hardcore. Such good times. :D

the names for PS4 are also mostly different, which is odd, as PS4 has a quite decent translation (whereas PS2 has the usual 8/early 16-bit engrish hackjob bullshit.)
