In terms of where games will show up, our commitment is that our games will show up on Game Pass, PC, console and xCloud. In terms of other platforms we'll take it on a case by case basis but as the Xbox community, what they should feel is a huge investment in the experience they're going to have in the Xbox ecosystem, and we want the Xbox ecosystem to be the absolute best place to play and we think game availability is absolutely part of that.
Bonus:

"I do not think it is any accident that this announcement occurred so close to Sony's PS5 announcement. There are only a limited number of proven creators of AAA. What Microsoft owns, Sony cannot get."

So no ES6, Starfield, Fallout 5 on PS5.

I saw this yesterday. I wonder if this will really bring many console users to Xbox or the PC. I'm not interested in PC gaming, but I am looking much more closely at Xbox since the acquisition.

Half the shit that comes out of his mouth is absolutely nothing. Every AAA will be on all platforms because it is what the board desires to make a profit after paying 7.5Bil dollars.
Basically "on a case by case basis" means AAA gets to be on PS5, filler garbage like the new Arkane AA online GaaS game "Exclusive to Xbox"

Any Exec's views/ideas can change at the drop of hat so it's not a good idea to believe everything someone like Spencer or Ryan say (after all, they still report to people above them).

But it's interesting to note that Spencer doesn't completely rule it out, instead it's left open, with "case by case basis".

Ok Phil.

I wish he would pick one.

I believe he was talking about moneyhating 3rd party projects there. That basically brings nothing to the end-users of the platform doing it, it only takes away from the opposing user base. That has nothing to do with making your first-party software available on other platforms. If you believe that strongly in that, why don't you cry me a river about TLoU not being on Xbox. :messenger_beaming:

You know he was talking about XSX games on XB1 right?

As for what he says here, its pretty conclusive.

You are inferring that conclusion, I specifically called out the quote he mentioned. He's simply talking out of both sides of his mouth depending on the day and situation.

So "moneyhatting" a 3rd party into a first one is now different? The situation is completely different from TLoU, but why would I care if that game came out on Xbox or not? First one was ok. Second one I didn't bother with.

I am looking forward to my Series X that is pre-ordered though.

Now you don't know what the hell to say do you? :messenger_beaming:

If you can't produce great games, just buy a huge part of the multi-plat industry. I hope Xbox fans won't flip out when Amazon does the same.

It's almost entertaining to see peoples are pretty much begging not to exclude ps5. Nobody begged Sony to release Uncharted on Xbox, and I don't understand the logic.

The reality is even if they release their games on ps5, which isn't a big chance, ps5 will be treated as a second tier development with the main resources on Xbox and PC. We all know what that means.

Its pretty obvious what he's saying. As for 'people above Phil', Nadella has been working with Phil on these deals, i'm pretty sure Nadella has ok'd this before Phil goes on places like CNBC Business and says the same thing.

If Game Pass has loads of subscribers and the Xbox ecosystem is doing really well they will probably keep most or everything exclusive.

If they are in desperate need of money because Game Pass has failed and Xbox is a distant third place they will probably pimp out their games to all.

It is different, because there is an obvious first-party expectation that those games will only appear on the one platform. They are ultimately financed by the platform holder.

A third-party money hat (like TR on X1) is a different thing in most cases. Though in the case of SFV, Sony did finance that project, so I don't see a problem with them keeping that one to themselves, it was really 2nd party which is fine.

I think you have completely misinterpreted this article. Hes talking about next gen games available on not only the XBS/X but the XBO. Nothing to do with PS.

Well that's not what he stated.

I'll quote him again: "I find it completely counter to what gaming is about to say that part of that is to lock people away from being able to experience those games"

Where does that quote and line of thinking say "We think it's ok to lock people into our platforms, but among our platforms we don't want to limit people."

You guys are misunderstanding me. I'm laughing at him because he is such an obvious corporate shill he can't get his "story" straight if his life depended on it. I have Xbox stuff. I play games on Xbox. My series X is locked and loaded. I don't care at alllllll about platform wars. This is about Phil being an idiot.

In Mattricks voice: "Fortunately we have a couple of products for you....." pretty much ends any fake concern over what Xbox will do with Bethesda games. Saying Xbox has no games, but now it's Xbox should do this, do that....because YOU don't wanna buy Xbox......well the problem is YOU then. You literally have options to play those games. If you don't partake in those options, then like most things in life, you miss out. Besides, I thought most gamers have a capable PC? :pie_thinking:

I wouldn't be so sure about that. You don't acquire these developers for that kind of money just to bring in an additional revenue stream. You acquire them to create brand value for your products, Game Pass and Xbox, and to bring in more users to those products while hopefully poaching some users from the competition.

Additionally, they see their competition as cloud gaming in the long term. They're attempting to solidify their position in the subscription service market. They're playing the long game here as they see the big picture. This isn't really a new tactic. Think about how Walmart pushed the loss leader strategy and Amazon uses its services profitably to support its commerce side of things. These actions are all meant to weed out the competition and take over the market long term.

By the time those games come out how many ps5 consoles would have been sold, 50 million 100 million.

I very much doubt Microsoft will skip those consoles, they are going to be hugely outsold with our without those games, they might as well release them on those platforms and reap the profits.

I can 100% see them releases it on there, so much money to be made, especially if those games come with the dreaded microtransactions, and we all know that is going to happen.

He knows what is doing it and its done in bad faith, it is basically what Sony fans have now gone full in on. They are trying to find angles to paint MS bad in anyway possible, no matter if they have to deceive or misconstrue words. Jim Ryan has dug a very deep hole for them so now they are trying to paint MS as equally bad, which is simply false equivalence.

How does releasing games on Xbox, PC, and xCloud locking the games away? You don't need to buy an Xbox to play these games. Sony doesn't offer that level of freedom for MOST of their games. Phil didn't say anything wrong.
