And you wonder why people give Nintendo DS a hard time

Well at least they put big breasts in this game. MATURE

You know, I think the average person would have been just as likely to pick this up calling it Gyakuten Saiban as they will be calling it Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

Which, for those keeping score, is about zero.

I myself, being an unaverage individual, am more than up for some exciting law practitioning.

it is too bad that the English title makes it sound lame.. the game is good! (just with too much Kanji for me...)

Which would have just been "Comeback Courtroom"-not exactly something that will bring in the sales either

Sorry - I thought it meant "Reversal of Judgment" or something vaguely cool-sounding like that.

I'm all over this! I've never played any of the japanese ones (too lazy to import) but they sound like my kind of game.

Even with the shitty name, I'm sure it will become a cult favorite spread through word of mouth.

The concept sounded interesting, so i'll probably pick it up when it's around $20. Given the limited replaybility of adventure games, i couldn't see myself putting too more into it than that.

this thread, and pretty much any other DS thread is doomed..

why bother posting it when you're only gonna get flamed, then banned if you try to defend the flames?

switch over now

buy a psp

I am obviously missing the appeal of this game. Anyone want to fill me in?
It's basically a light version of your typical courtroom drama. That's the appeal right there. Deciphering evidence, questioning witnesses, and finding holes in testimony that would find your client innocent.

The only thing i don't like about the game is that they show you actually commits the crime, or at least the demo did based on impressions. That pretty much breaks the game right there, because as a defense attorney your client may be guilty and lie to you, which would make a great twist as you'd have to decide how to spin that in your clients favor, or plea for a light sentence. Hopefully a sequel will fix this.

?

No one is going to go about doing that.

Its campy enough to be fun for a little while, I'm sure. Don't know about the long-term value, though. :(

Other than Gyakuten Saiban, what would you have called it?
I haven't thought about it much, but focusing it on the main character is dumb and limiting. What happens three or four games down the line when they kill him off or have him retire or something and decide to have someone else in the spotlight?

It's a terrible name, anyhow. No mass appeal whatsoever.

Not too mention it's way too long, especially when you are trying to pronounce it in full at a game store.

Just call it "Flaming Courtroom DS!"

I said it before, the only way this could have worked in the US is if they tied it in with the show's character names and called this Law & Order DS. :lol

Don't cry, Detective Logan!

Anyone remember that "legal" game from way back on the computers? I had it for Apple IIe, but I think it was for C64 as well. You were a judge and after hearing evidence you had to pronounce a decision/sentence on the accused, and a scale would then show you how close you came to the proper decision. Crime and Punishment, was it?

Anyway, that was pretty fun, and this obviously reminds me of that game.

This is a remake of 2 of the GBA games, no?

I might get this as well, though I'm more interested in Another Code, honestly.

Edit - and g-d damn, that title reeks.

It sounds like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, or something. :p And what kid is going to want to play a game with "attorney" in the title? That's only a notch below "Accountant" on the "things kids never, ever want to associate themselves with" list.

Some people are too far out of touch with reality for their own good. Why not something simple like Courtroom Chaos or Disorder in the Court or Feel the Verdict: XY/XX or whatever? Surely there's a thousand better names they could've gone with than the one they chose. :p

I think it looks really cool, the premise is interesting. One of my most wanted DS games right now...but I'm unsure about picking it up for full-price. Seems like one of those games you'll only play through once...

The working title was "Objection Court" fwiw.

Simple. Shift the name of the series to the subtitle (Ace Attorney 2).

Around her neck... a Blue Seed! Monsters will invade the courtroom!

Suddenly this sounds even more interesting.

I think I'll be picking this up, at the very least to just support obscure titles like this getting a chance in the US, plus I've always heard good things about the series, they were just always capped by, "But it'll never be released outside of Japan."

The name is kind of bleh, but Objection Courtroom didn't exactly work wonders, either... so how about splitting the difference, Phoenix Courtroom DS? It mentions the main character, but it still continues to work even if it's not Phoenix in the lead anymore, because it brings to mind the potential for the courtroom to burst back into activity (life) with a well-timed objection.

Plus it'd shut those still asking about Dead Phoenix up? "See? He's no longer a dead phoenix, he's a lawyer now!"

You guys are all a bunch of player haters and you are all letting your Nintendo hatred cloud your judgement here. I hate the DS more than all of you, but I still think Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is a fine name and much better than any English permutation of Gyakuten saiban would've been.

Try saying the name out loud. You can't help but assume the "1950s radio announcer" voice, can't you? It's amusing to hear, and it sticks out in your mind. What's more, it matches the game's tone perfectly -- the plot is dramatic and serious, but there's an irreverent undercurrent you can see in the punny names and the airheaded dialogue between Phoenix and that girl of hers whose US name I've forgotten.

In short, Capcom rocks, IMO.
