you'll have to create a second KS account for a second version of the game. all tiers above $60 will let you have a physical ps4 version though.

Wherever the physical PC version is included, you can now also get the physical PS4 version instead. But only ever one copy of the full game.

So, for $100 you get the trial PC version + your name in the credits + full PC or PS4 version, either digital or physical.

For sure, I'm glad it's just finally happened more than anything. The mind does wonder though, how would things be looking right now if the physical tier was there right at the start, during all that E3 madness. Substantially better? Maybe, maybe not. But definitely better to some degree.

Hard to say I think because the initial goal was set rather conservatively (Which they would have really not known given the absence of series for more than 14 years) I think now we have a physical release it's given campaign second wind.

You have to remember it's very difficult to keep people's attention and engaged for entire KS campaign. So I would like to think it's actually done more good than bad.

Do you think this is the only way I can get a PS4 physical copy or will it get sold in stores?
it might end up in stores, but this way you get the exclusive kickstarter backer cover and help the game's production anyway.

if you like martial arts, eastern philosophy, and revenge you might as well do it.

I was going to back it with $29 this coming week when I get paid but... $60 physical copy for the PS4 it is!

It'll be available somehow. No idea if retail stores will stock it, but if nothing else you'll probably be able to order it online.

it should be available, though one thing to take into account, all money raised now leads to an overall better product later

Alright you guys convinced me. I'll lay off the fast food this month and back this.

You also need to take into account that Shenmue's KS includes dinners around the world with Yu, tons of swag, and nearly everyone that pledges $ gets a copy of the game, so they wont have to buy a copy after release. Witcher 3 put $15M directly into dev without having to put any of that money into pledge fulfillment and everyone had to buy TW3 after release.

Yes, but we also know they have other resources for funding. These dinners will most likely be also combined with potential meetings/ PR for the game and won't take a big cake of the kickstarter money. They are not just randomly picking locations for dinners.

Regarding the wage "debate". Of course you can't compare it to Poland and as mentioned before the world of Witcher was bigger, tools are getting better... And do we know if part of the production of Shenmue takes place in other countries? I am pretty sure Yu was active in China too quiet some time? But all this doesn't matter, my point was: Yu says he can make a worthy successor with 2 million, so we don't need to be skeptical with the success the campaign already has. He is a pro, produced milestones. I trust him that he will deliver a game worthy to his legend :)

Yea man this Kickstarter has me all sorts of excited. I got my OG Xbox set up and I'm going to play my copy of Shenmue 2. Hoping to get to Kowloon before the weekend is over but may not happen.

I can't fucking wait for 3, I can't believe this is really happening.

So I think I've decided on upping my pledge to get the physical PS4 version. Should I do it now or is there some sort of upcoming event where you're all gonna pledge at once?

So if I want physical I better get this now? Won't be in stores or available online when it releases?

Only the case Is exclusive. I think it's safe to bet that there will be a physical release for this too, that's the trend of most kickstarters. Hopefully it will release on the same day as the digital.

Go ahead now. There may be a final campaign before end of campaign but nothing should hold you back now.

I don’t particularly care about the Shenmue III Kickstarter because I don’t fund other people’s creative endeavors and I can’t bring myself to have feelings about anything happening in 2017 right now.

Kotaku's weekend guy is playing with fire. Is it even legal to be cynical about Shenmue?

EDIT: Crap I didn't realize someone had already linked it. Oh well, there's the image if you didn't see it already.

Christ, what a twat. Can't tell if he's failing to be funny or if he's genuinely just a bit of a dickhead.

Looks like I'll have to donate another $60 on top of my initial $35 for the PS4 physical copy but then, that's the Shenmue Defense Force way, isn't it? :D

Never donated before, but I would like to donate towards this. I don't need to make any type of account do I? Can I use a different name or does it have to be my real name if I pay for that tier?

you do have to make an account. it'll likely have to be your real name to match up with any payment details taken. there should be an option to pay via paypal coming, but i don't know if that makes any difference

Well I just instantly backed once this news dropped. They have my 60 dollars now

The crazy thing is. Most of the 10,000 dollars tiers are gone.

Who is buying these tiers????

I don't know, but we will see the mugs of those who get their faces in the game.

It would be hilarious to see some celebrities, but I'm expecting simple fans.

There was two brothers who ran a language school in Guilin you donated $20,000 to the game. You can read more about them here
Wow :O that's pretty cool. Sounds like a story that some of the major news sites like Kotaku should report on. It's a really sweet feel good story :p

Wow, their NPC idea is too good.

It's funny how stuff like this never get covered on kotaku or gaming sites , yet they will go and cry about placeholder boxart for some cheap views.

Game journalism is just a massive failure.

What is it about consoles that makes physical games so enticing? I backed for digital pc version because I don't care about physical on pc at all. Now that physical ps4 version has been added im seriously considering upping my pledge to $60 even though I have a PC considerably more powerful than my PS4. I've never played a shenmue game either lol

Ever since P.T. was taken off the Playstation store, I'm worried about the permanence of games being available on any digital store front. I imagine this might be a game I want to play years down the line, and if it was just digital, unless I keep it on the system forever, I might not be able to redownload it

0_o The level of stupidity, ignorance and arrogance in that article is through the roof! How the hell does this guy still have a job?! Are you serious? That was not even plausible as an article, and you can completely hate Shenmue and still think that the article is what it really is, shit. I'm glad that the main editor scrutinized him but seriously, that guy should not be working there.

Not that I say the article isnt bad, but the placeholder art is seriously shit. I mean I think everyone who spent more than 10 hours with PS could make a better placeholder art.

Why on earth would anyone give a crap about a placeholder for a game that hasn't even started production yet? That's madness.

That Kotaku writer is trying to find the best and most trendy thing to say. He's staying with the time, doesn't care about a different kind of genre, and he's out to prove a point.

A lot of people in the industry realize what placeholders are. Yu Suzuki has already stated that the character models aren't up to his liking. If the journalist was paying attention or even gamed for more than a decade he might have much more brighter comments for people actually wanting this to happen. I'm not saying everyone has to be a fan, but a large majority of people can figure out what is going on. To me he comes across as trying to prove his point before ramming the project into the ground. How smart does someone need to be to figure out A. Placeholders and B. Concept Art.

We use to have journalists who understood what developer copies meant and alphas and betas were never released to the public. It's a general understanding. With all the awards and the achievements Yu Suzuki has given the gaming industry, you'd think more people would understand.

The man invented a lot of amazing games that are still the best of the best.

The thing is; the journalist criticizing games because they're older or that the developer hasn't made a game in a while is asinine. It's like reading an article on Dino Crisis or Resident Evil and hearing all these junky words trying to make it seem modern. I'm old enough to know what's on my screen in 2015 and it's because I chose it be on there. I'm the one who enjoys gaming as a timeless collective. I don't need the modern day hipster who wants to talk about modern games and indie devs fighting online. I get pissed when journalist try and bring out the judgmental hammer or nail something into the ground because they feel like it. That's not fare to people who enjoy video games and classic game designers. I hate all those opinionated articles about some era or classic video game period. They could detail everything out like a making of article, but leave out the personal opinions please.

They can cover the next CoD or Halo. Make an article on MineCraft. Leave the gaming gold to us. I'm not trying to be rude either.

My favorite part was how Jason Schreier posted earlier in here that he's really angry about that article.

And then there was the Twitter mob.
