I found this to be a pretty American thing. Many European airlines do have a row 13 (and why the fuck wouldn't they?) and buildings also tend to have a 13th floor.

American airline row numbering is really fucking weird. It's not just row 13, it seems to skip right to 20.

I don't think 13 is considered an unlucky number in Europe. In some countries 17 is unlucky, though.
