I’m watching through all of beavis and butthead at the mo (thanks to a poster the other day putting it in my head) and there is no way to watch it with music videos unless you pirate it.
I usually buy everything even if the money is going to a reseller. For example I pirated a rare Sega Saturn game to see if I’d like it before I spunked £600 on a copy on eBay. I played it, I loved it, I spent the money. That piracy harmed no one and in fact helped that reseller.

This was kind of the take I had on that reply and in the end it is just like any number of justifications people use to make it ok.
It appears we must put disclaimers so here it is. Yeah I've pirated, yeah I would download a car if given the chance. Nowadays I've shifted my own personal morals in a different direction but I'm certainly not here to judge. I do find the mental gymnastics with piracy to be a fascinating look into the psyche of people.
I even do my own brand of justifications myself. I dont pirate movies or games or shows anymore but I do pirate books off of irc channels. My own personal justifying comes when I want a book, I will look up the book in my local library and see if they have it. The thing is, I don't want a book. They are a pain in the ass, with an .epub I can read it anywhere I want. So if the local library has it I feel justified in downloading a copy because "well I COULD go and take the book out from the library...".
In the end piracy and the justifications for it come from a bizarrely twisted point of entitlement. If it was 1973 and I wanted that book, or movie or show or whatever and I couldn't afford it or have access to it then too bad. Better make more dough or whatever but you sucked it up and moved on with life. Nowadays people don't want to or can't buy a game or whatever yet they feel like they deserve to have the product anyways, simply because it is so easily and readily available to be pirated. Entitlement to the max.
I gotta say I much prefer someone to just be straight up and say "I just don't want to pay for it" rather than come up with some convoluted excuse based on whether or not it meets an arbitrary wokeness cutoff point. "Too woke? Then I shall take it!" just kinda sounds cringe.

The point was adequately explained, Phunky. If you want to do the slimeball thing you've been doing since the beginning of your stay here and misrepresent the arguments of your opponents completely, attacking a facsimile instead of the point made, then you're free to.

As an aside, someone (I forgot who) once referred to pirating as "peak consumerism", in that you have such an appetite to consume product that you must have it despite it not being affordable to you (or you just don't want to pay, more realistically). I tend to agree.

fwiw, but I think probably the biggest problem with human culture is that "us vs them / me vs you" mentality. That black/white, either you're with me or against me mindset is so damaging to society and our sense of goodness of each other. We *can* differ and still love one another, and believe it or not, if we are willing to discuss in a civil and respectful manner, we can actually learn to understand - if not always appreciate/agree with - another point of view. We're all different, and yet, all the same. Let's be good to each other. (go ahead and mock my naiveté

Cheap affordable streaming made thing easier but there are a lot of stuff not on Netflix, Amazon prime. Example Nova..... I am not subbing to another service just to watch 1 show

If Phunky wants my respect, he can approach a debate from the position of actually addressing the argument and positions taken, versus, how can I paint my, yes, opponent in the worst possible light?

I have no strong feelings on piracy anymore. When billion dollar companies are telling customers they're "happy to lose" them, I don't really care much about the effect of piracy on their bottom line. When movie studios, musicians, and celebrities are happy to tell half of America to skip their content, it's not hard to morally justify pirating that content. Do it or not, there's no moral high ground either way.

I haven’t pirated media in over a decade. Media is just too cheap nowadays and conveniently distributed. The hour or so I’d waste securing pirated media is worth to me tens of times more than the cost of acquiring it online. Buying for me is essentially cheaper.
PS: I am not against pirating media. Sometimes there are good reasons such as preserving the integrity. I just consume media for mindless entertainment and have no incentive to pirate it.

No, I pay. I earn enough to be able to spend £10 or whatever on a cinema ticket/DVD/Blu-Ray etc. (Or CD, or a subscription service etc).
I know a lot of people who use "Showbox" and all manner of other apps to stream (usually poor quality) stuff and most of them earn enough to actually pay for a subscription or whatever. It boils my piss.
Look at the amount of movies that have been box office failures over the past 10 years, then compare that to box office failures (or bombs) in the 70s, 80s, 90s when piracy was a lot less (Though still did occur).
One day we'll wonder why we cant have great looking movies/TV shows etc, then we'll realise "We never funded them, we wanted it all for free".

This right here, when I was in the Philippines and I had no access to streaming services or no decent access to blu rays, it was a massive pain in the arsenal to pirate shit.
Downloading a single movie multiple times in high quality on a 5mbps connection. And then hoping one would play on the available blu ray player properly. It was a nightmare.

No. I've never pirated a movie, TV show or music. The only video game I've ever downloaded was a GBA game that I've never seen a copy of in person, and hardly ever popped up on eBay at the time. I don't see any benefit in stealing media.

Yes but no games. I did many moons ago. I pay for several streaming services so it's usually to see it early, and than eventually I end up streaming it on one the pay services. I'll also get the itch to watch something from several decades back and look up if it's streamable. Find out it's not, but it's like $9.99 to buy or stream. That's a big nope. Not paying a months worth of streaming for one movie.

I pay for convenience. If a movie or series i'm interested isn't available on netflix or prime i'll just pirate it. Like Servant or Mandalorian.
I pay for Spotify and pirate songs that are not available there.
With games i only pirate when i'm not sure if i'm going to enjoy the full game. Like a demo. If i like the "demo" i'll buy the original. Last time i did it was with Snowrunner. I've been doing this for years.
