No, because piracy is for peasants
I mean no offense, but I'm seeing this argument as a cop-out. If something is too "woke", you don't have to support it, but that doesn't mean you have the right to watch it anyway, imo.
I'm not casting judgement, just to be clear. I may have pirated in the past.
This was kind of the take I had on that reply and in the end it is just like any number of justifications people use to make it ok.
It appears we must put disclaimers so here it is. Yeah I've pirated, yeah I would download a car if given the chance. Nowadays I've shifted my own personal morals in a different direction but I'm certainly not here to judge. I do find the mental gymnastics with piracy to be a fascinating look into the psyche of people.
I even do my own brand of justifications myself. I dont pirate movies or games or shows anymore but I do pirate books off of irc channels. My own personal justifying comes when I want a book, I will look up the book in my local library and see if they have it. The thing is, I don't want a book. They are a pain in the ass, with an .epub I can read it anywhere I want. So if the local library has it I feel justified in downloading a copy because "well I COULD go and take the book out from the library...".
In the end piracy and the justifications for it come from a bizarrely twisted point of privilege. If it was 1973 and I wanted that book, or movie or show or whatever and I couldn't afford it or have access to it then too bad. Better make more dough or whatever but you sucked it up and moved on with life. Nowadays people don't want to or can't buy a game or whatever yet they feel like they deserve to have the product anyways, simply because it is so easily and readily available to be pirated.
I gotta say I much prefer someone to just be straight up and say "I just don't want to pay for it" rather than come up with some convoluted excuse based on whether or not it meets an arbitrary wokeness cutoff point. "Too woke? Then I shall take it!" just kinda sounds cringe.

The point was adequately explained, Phunky. If you want to do the slimeball thing you've been doing since the beginning of your stay here and misrepresent the arguments of your opponents completely, attacking a facsimile instead of the point made, then you're free to.
I won't be taking the bait, however, and suggest that nobody else does. Let this poster's poor political trolling scream into the vacuum.
My "opponents"? Do you really think I'm that fragile as to label you my "opponent" because I'm discussing people's justifications behind piracy? This is what I find humorous about you Americans(I'm assuming you are), it is always here or there. If you're not here with me then you are over there, my opponent. A basic difference in opinion has now made us "opponents". It's quite exceptional that you would consider my reply to be "political trolling". Is that how utterly brainwashed you've become?
Do you see how "smoothbrained" (to use one of your phrases) that thought process is? It appears you would feel more comfortable in an echo chamber like setting but this place doesn't come across that way. Unfortunately your desire to have me ignored and "yelling into the vacuum" in order to have your comfortable chamber like setting will probably not happen. That's life bro.
I don't want to derail the topic too much, and I'm not criticizing-Arcadia- fwiw, but I think probably the biggest problem with human culture is that "us vs them / me vs you" mentality. That black/white, either you're with me or against me mindset is so damaging to society and our sense of goodness of each other. We *can* differ and still love one another, and believe it or not, if we are willing to discuss in a civil and respectful manner, we can actually learn to understand - if not always appreciate/agree with - another point of view. We're all different, and yet, all the same. Let's be good to each other. (go ahead and mock my naiveté
)
Have a good read of his post history sometime. Really drill in there. That should about settle that.
I don't break bread with people who can never argue honestly, and have demonstrated that behavior consistently for close to a year.
If Phunky wants my respect, he can approach a debate from the position of actually addressing the argument and positions taken, versus, how can I paint my, yes, opponent in the worst possible light?
If it was once, okay. Twice. A little worrying. But constantly? Never stopping? That's the recipe for a garbage-tier poster, and one that I don't feel a need to engage with.

No, I pay. I earn enough to be able to spend £10 or whatever on a cinema ticket/DVD/Blu-Ray etc. (Or CD, or a subscription service etc).
I know a lot of people who use "Showbox" and all manner of other apps to stream (usually poor quality) stuff and most of them earn enough to actually pay for a subscription or whatever. It boils my piss.
Look at the amount of movies that have been box office failures over the past 10 years, then compare that to box office failures (or bombs) in the 70s, 80s, 90s when piracy was a lot less (Though still did occur).
One day we'll wonder why we cant have great looking movies/TV shows etc, then we'll realise "We never funded them, we wanted it all for free".
If you cant afford something, do you steal it from a shop? Exactly.
In the 21st century - in a mad world plagued by propaganda-leaders called superheroes , piracy - nay - "media liberation" and the ability to watch whatever propaganda we want - FOR FREE - well, it's the only sane answer.
Off the record, the issue with pirating is it requires a lot of downloads, programs etc. and makes it a chore in just acquiring something you'd otherwise stream in a second.
Piracy is for people with taste. If everything you want is legally available you have no taste in anything. No, because piracy is for peasants
When the only porn you had access too was a tenth generation German porn movie on VHS you made sure you made a copy before handing it back. I remember VHS players being moved to friends houses for copying sessions to be promptly returned before the parents came home. A movie, you'd just watch. But porn, you needed a copy of that shit.
I was born too late for this revelation! Although I heard that in the 80s, you could find Porn Magazines in the middle of Forests.
Still incredible to see people go to such lengths!

finding a scud mag in a bush was a right of passage for a young gentleman intent on frantic onanism in my day. Saved you the furtive trip to the newsagent, the hanging around the shelves waiting for the shop to empty, the dash to the counter with your chosen periodical, the tense wait for the clerk to decide whether he really wanted to sell softcore grumble to a 14 year old. The shame of the brown paper bag, only used for one purpose. That was porn.
I have a couple of buying porn mag stories. Internet porn has robbed the youth of thier own tales of adventure on the high streets of small towns seeking fresh grot mags unsullied from rain and stuck together pages.
Unless you want on holiday to the continent of course
and come back with a pack of French nudie playing cards.
Imagine having to wank off over a playing card. Sounds insane now.
Is it really piracy when your mom just sends it to me without me wanting or asking for it? I call that harassment...I know for a fact most people pirate porn on a daily basis. xD

No, but I'm gonna leave this here.
