Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online coming to PS4

Ive always thought this looked like an even bigger, more epic, first person view warhawk

Im so excited, that I just started DLing PS2 onto my laptop.

I have a 2.4-3.0ghz i5, with a Radeon 6650 w/ 2 GB VRAM and 4 GB of system RAM, I know nothing of PC gaming, so I hope this runs well enough to get the gist.

You could probably run it fine. The game is CPU intensive not GPU intensive. Your CPU will bottleneck before your GPU in this game.

No way. PS2 is a huge futuristic battlefield

Yeah, too huge. I've played for hours and only really ever found one fun fight. Dust 514 has actual matches/matchmaking, making it far easier to get the hang of once you learn how outfitting and skills works. A match based system means I don't have to waste hours of my life just to have some fun.

I won't be playing Planetside 2 until they make it easier to find action. The "Instant action" button just doesn't work.

I'm also not quite sure how you got confused what to do in Dust. It has two basic game modes, Ambush, which is basically just team death match, and Skirmish, which is a pretty standard point capture based match. It's not exactly rocket science.

I wonder if PS2 works on a console. The learning curve is really steep and it isn't exactly a pick up and play type of game. The most fun you have with this game is during operations that can span several hours, not in small squads but in platoons (that's 48 players). It doesn't give you instant gratification like Battlefield, Call of Duty, Halo type of games that seem the most popular on consoles.

It would be cool to have cross platform play though, even though it will be a programming nightmare.

Three faction battles taking place all over the entire map
3 continents - Icy, desert and vegetation
Full day and night cycle

I disagree, I have put about 50 hours into PS2. I always thought it was an easy pick up and play game.

Hahaha, really? How did that work? Did an SOE employee just join your squad and say that? Very cool.

Azure Twilight (The VS Faction involved), knew about it, and was broadcasted beforehand in game, on their message boards, and on their TeamSpeak page. I assume it was the same for the BWC (TR) and Devil Dogs (NC). Think SOE has a couple people embedded in each of the platoons as we fought.

Footage is also divided up over 2 days (one day, the Devil Dogs of Connery came over to Mattherson to fight AT and BWC, and then a couple days later, AT and BWC went over to Connery and fought the DD's).

We all wish the DD's would switch servers, Mattherson's NC faction isn't that great. It's mostly VS's AT, GOTR (GOONSwarm) and TEST (Reddit), against TR's BWC and The Enclave (BuzzCutPhysco who is actually crazy. Crazy Racist.)

Continents are 8km x 8km in size I believe and can hold a max of 2000 people.

There has never been a game like this on consoles before, and it does require lots of coordination on the part of the player-base to achieve anything.

Yep, and if you are a noob it can be hard to find action. Though they seemed to have fixed this with patches.

Played some Planetside 2 on pc but never got into it, maybe the PS4 can change that. About DCUO, I hope they bump up the graphics and have the game run buttery smooth at 60fps.

Really? My experience has been completely different. The instant action works quite well, and it's pretty easy to redeploy to a '48+' region via the world map.

Whenever I've used it, it usually pops me into the middle of enemy territory with only me being there. I then proceed to get blown the fuck up.

They are adding in more alerts/missions today. Thing's like "Capture all the Tech/Bio/Amp stations". These, plus the Lattice system, forces "obvious fights" alot more than before (though, I do miss the multiple options of attacking and flanking that the HEX system provided, but it lead to fewer big battles and more small skirmishes and ghost capping).

They've implemented a larger tutorial system (which I've never tried, so I have no clue if it's good or not) and they have a Virtual Reality test area, where you can try any weapon and weapon accessory (Vehicles too) at no cost, so you can test before you buy/unlock.

Whenever I've used it, it usually pops me into the middle of enemy territory with only me being there. I then proceed to get blown the fuck up.
What you really need to do, is enter a squad/platoon (either from the squad screen, or just hit the insert button and it auto places you in a squad), and you can press the insert button again, to deploy at their location. Now you are (more than likely) in a battle, with a squad to fight with.

The new lettuce system that's being used on Indar helps with figuring out where people are fighting at. Also helps with ghost capping.

The instant action was often bugged. They've pushed out a few fixes with their monthly game updates. It's been a while since I've been dropped in empty or enemy territory so I'd say it's largely bug free today.

Some PS2 screens I took two weeks ago. Absolutely beautiful looking game this! The lighting is just breathtaking and the scale is EPIC (tons of vehicles and characters on screen)

and don't forget about dat motion blur

The wait is even more unbearable for the PS4 launch now. A day and night cycle is just too awesome. This is gonna be great, especially with headsets included in every box. My god.

EDIT - at the above post. The dirt and weeds on the last screen look photorealistic. This is gonna be insane at 1080p.

Yeah the instant action button doesn't work right all the time.

YOu need to learn how to read the map and that goes a long way towards finding the front line. Population has always been good on my server (matherson) luckily.

It is a difficult game to pick up though. I'm sure however that by the time the PS4 release comes around that the tutorial will be much better.

When I was playing on that desert level, I was thinking, "man someone needs to recreate that Motorstorm bullshit CG trailer with this game." They also added a buggy, it's called the harasser or something, fun to use!

2000 WTF? I mean even if its gonna be downsized for the PS4 to something like 2-300, thats still a respectable number, wow.

Also, will they keep the game up to date with the PC version? They have been releasing updates pretty frequently.
The update will probably slow down a bit by the time the PS4 is launched so they should be able to keep the versions in sync. For DCUO they've been doing it since launch and it was pretty rough back then since it was their first MMO on the PS3 and EU certification kept biting them in the ass, but awhile back they seem to have streamlined their certification process.

Game Updates (typical patch stuff) are monthly, paid content updates are released every quarter, hotfixes are pushed out in a day or two after they've figured out what was causing the issue, and server side fixes can be done on their end without SCE approval. All of it is released in sync with the PC servers, usually after they've tested the content on the PC Test Server. The only thing that gets released on PC first consistently is Marketplace items (cosmetics/consumables) since the PS Store only updates once a week. In the worst case scenarios (EU certification holding crucial content back) they've released the content on PC/US PS3 and delayed the EU PS3 release.

I hope they will release better textures for PlanetSide 2 PC & PS4.

Nope, the game is very hard on the hard drive. For a proper experience you need to have it installed on a SSD. Since the world is so massive, they can't have super detailed world textures. But the characters and vehicles have a great amount of detail up close

nah, it will be fine. Like I said the world is just massive! Battles are spread out throughout the map. On some servers one faction simply dominates the other two factions and the map is all quiet.

Just think of MAG basically.

I don't care too much for DCUO but after watching some Planetside 2 videos earlier today, I am very hyped.

I'm gonna buy the shit out of this console...
