Biggest things that might be coming next year is dynamic metadata for HDR though I don't think we'll get an update to HDR10 next year so I don't think this year's sets week be obsolete l. But the risk is there.

It runs silent and power/processing are kept separate. It's designed to fit into A/V component racks so width is typical size.

Should I just wait for black friday before jumping on a 4k set? Looking for 60" 4k, hdr, low lag. under 600. Too unrealistic?

It's possible you'll find something close to that. Vizio P series could hit $750. It may have bad lag while in HDR mode though.

At this point my use for 4k and hdr would basically just be for movies/tv. I don't see myself investing in a ps4 pro or scorpio since I have a good gaming pc. I assume that input lag wouldnt be a huge issue for media right?
My 55" Vizio e series 1080p set just went black and died

If you don't have 4k content or access to 4k content.. then just get a cheap 1080p tv and wait. You can't buy a set now that is guaranteed to work with everything in the next few years. the standards are still in flux.
HDR makes a bigger difference than 4k in terms of picture quality, depending on how close you sit to the tv, you may not even be able to appreciate the jump from 1080p to 4k.
get something you can take full advantage of now, imo. TV tech is getting better every year, the HDR standards will be closer to final in a year.. and tech will be cheaper, too. You're not missing out on anything great by waiting.
edit - and this is coming from someone who just bought a 2016 LG OLED tv.

what content specifically are you trying to watch? I think everything that is available in HDR on Netflix will show up to you as Dolby Vision, since they're doing both. DV is considered superior to HDR 10, so they just use that for our sets.
On a device that doesn't support dolby vision, those titles would display in HDR 10. I think Marco Polo is still one of the only HDR titles.. I know they haven't updated Daredevil yet..

it's being updated "sometime in 2016" but that hasn't happened yet. It doesn't show in HDR using my UHD bluray player either, so there's nothing wrong with your set

I need
-game mode (low input lag I think it's around 35)
-standard for movies (win or without tru motion it depends of what I watch )
-game mode with HDR isn't possible if lg doesn't update so a standard mode for HDR (60 input lag though )

The ks 9800 should give us a hint of whats to come. It's already out and features FALD. Rtings is reviewing it this fall. If it fixes the negatives of edge lit and maintains its HDR + game mode input lag then we'll have ourselves a winner.

My initial reaction was two, but if you go to Buy Online then follow the link to the Gentec website it has a description of "3-way 4-driver Floor-Standing Speaker System-Sold Individually" so that makes it sounds like it's only one.

Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers sell it for roughly the same price as a single speaker. So I'd say it's for a single speaker as the info sheet on Sony's site doesn't make it clear if it's single or dual.

The price is really reasonable, but I'm wondering what the catch is. I know it doesn't do UHD Premium, but so long as I can reap the benefits of HDR and 4K, I'm fine not having the top of the range experience. Just wondering how much of a compromise we're looking at here.

samsung low ends are quite the opposite of their high end in terms of getting your value for your money. I think you should check Sony X800D is size isnt an issue.
I think the most common answer would be the LG OLED E 6. From what I understand the G6 isn't worth the extra money. I didn't need the integrated sound bar so I saved myself some money and went with the c6. I did want 3D so the b6 was a no-go for me.

I see, thanks for the reply. That's the same model I currently have my eye on at the moment. Also wondering if way better LG OLEDs will launch early/mid next year or is this the best we can get in terms of OLED for a while?

Aren't all PS4 Pro games upscaled to 4K (+ HDR)?
It sure would suck if I wanted to play some COD Infinite Warfare campaign in beautiful HDR and I can't really enjoy it due to the terrible lag.
I would be even more pissed off if it turned out that the 2017 LG OLED had a HDR game mode while this year's haven't.

In terms of PQ, you're likely to see more variation in unit to unit factory calibration than you will going up or down the model tiers. You are paying for the upgraded build quality (e.g. glass screen, sound bar speaker) and features (3D), not PQ improvements. None of them are suitable investments for gaming IMO (barring FW updates), too much HDR lag on the G, E, and C, too much lag in general on the B.

Here's hoping it's something that could be fixed via firmware update, we'll see... to my knowledge there's still no actual HDR gaming content out there (at least on PC) so given a lack of content it may not have been a priority for them to get Game mode+HDR working. Now with the PS4 pro announcements it's become more of a pressing matter.

I see, thanks for your input. Worth the investment getting that professional calibration it seems rather than model jumping. Time to do some major research but I do know that my next HDTV will be an OLED. Really hope they work on the HDR input lag.

Now I'm hearing that some displays that are advertised as HDR don't actually display HDR, and just display HDR inputs. How do you go about working out which sets do this and which ones actually display HDR? The spec sheets are giving me nothing.
If a TV supports HDR10 they will probably mention it somewhere. Having the UHD premium logo also is a good sign of true HDR because this means the TV has a 10 bit panel. 8 bit panels seemingly can read the HDR data and process it but not the same way a 10 bit panel can.

I'm not jumping in until CES 2018. HDR implementation should be much better by then. OLED should come down a bit in price. I jumped in early with my current TV. The craze at that time was 3D,and I paid a nice premium on it. Turns out the actual screen is terrible and the input lag is definitely noticeable.
I'll wait until standards and features settle down. Not getting burned again.

No that's an 8bit panel but Samsung enabled HDR on those via a firmware update. We are currently discussing this in the "PS4 pro HDR compatibility" thread. (http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1280853) It seems it's only working with external inputs like an Xbox One S.

That's interesting. I'll check the thread out. All I really want is a decently priced TV that can display 4K and HDR. Sucks that this may not cut it.
I have yet to see how big the difference is. For that price i would also be not too sad if the HDR isn't as noticeable but still there.

That's my thought process. I'm not concerned if it's not that best of the best since I have a budget to conform to. So long as HDR is there, and noticeable then I'm happy.
