play-asia psp update

drohne

hyperbolically metafictive
they've just sent an email out to people with psp preorders. the relevant parts:

Expected supply shortage

With 200,000 units available on launch as well as a total of around 500,000 systems until end of the year, supply shortage in the early weeks after release can be foreseen. Despite our excellent ties to Japanese distributors as well as large reservations we have submitted, we cannot rule out a last minute supply cut. In event of shortage, orders are scheduled to be processed on first ordered, first served basis. An update about the final supply situation will be mailed out upon final release.

Possible price increase

Along with the supply shortage, we expect vendors to hike up the price of the first units in the first days or weeks after release. At Play-Asia, we value every preorder and guarantee to offer the lowest price for any preorder that we can afford. In case we cannot hold the currently estimated preorder price, you will receive an e-mail update prior processing of your order. Since your order is non binding, you will be able to cancel your order at any time.

:/ :/ :/

i got my preorder in quite early, so i'm not worried about the supply. but i guess they intend to ratchet the prices up after all. i'm not willing to pay much more of a premium than the current $20 mark-up + $30 shipping. oh well.

Hell, I'm still waiting for my US version DS. I preordered it the minute the Play-Asia site was updated with it, and same goes with PSP.

yeah, I just checked mine. It was in the spam box, lol

Sony PSP PlayStation Portable preorder roundup - Japanese street date in 2 weeks from now

that is the header

Hopefully lik-sang doesn't have similar problems (maybe less people ordered from em...) The only thing is that l-s wasn't offering the deluxe package. :(

"I actually found a giant retailer that's gonna start taking pre-orders next week, and I'm not telling anyone (except John TV cuz he's sooooo cute)."

I found one today too! i'm gonna spill the beans ... unless.... ;)

Haha that's hardly a surprise. Take 600 preorders shut down the orders, then announce that there "may" be a shortage.

Next steps are the inevitable "we were able to secure 10 units at $400" announcement which should come within a couple weeks, and then the "next shipment of 10 to come Jan 21, 2005" to follow.

always the same. new hardware is out, all claim there is not enough units. price increases. 2 months later you get it everywhere... don't get overhyped, relax and get it 2005 for normal price.

the thing with play-asia is that they'll only put up the prices if they get gouged by suppliers. I would hope by now that they have at least some coming in from reliable sources, and a few preorders will keep around the same price.

Having said that - someone hook me up with a retail store preorder in Japan!

pfffft, buy a DS

what the HECK they were thinking ? launching with 200k units ??

If you wanted a PSP, why would you "get a DS" because the PSP launched with only 200k units?

I know that if I have my heart on something I don't say "oh, crap, it's not in... let me get that instead." But that's just me.

actually, all the fuss surrounding the psp launch has me considering just that. and i'm certainly intrigued by the ds's innovative software.
