Play-Asia Now Adds "Import Duty" for U.S Customers Ordering Things (Around ~30%)

That's where their HQ is.

Who understands them... First they say they don't want to buy products from Hong Kong... China... Or Asia... Then when they put tariffs on...

They complain. 😑

What's the profit margin on junk like this? 90%? Whether they end up eating some or all of the tariff themselves will likely depend on what happens to sales following the price increase / how important the US market is to them. It's unlikely they literally cannot afford to (which may be the case on some products) on a ~$200 plastic doll.

It seems to not ship for 6 months, so idk what happens if you pay the 'tariff included' price now and President Trump makes a very powerful trade deal or tariff suspension by then. Hopefully you would be refunded the difference.

I feel for all US customers. My condolences go out to all those affected. (Perhaps you'll vote more sensibly and prudently next time.) :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_mr_smith_who_are_you_going_to_call:
Let's just say the other choice was also not so great without getting more into politics. Much as with Trump's first win, Democrats "talent" in choosing terrible candidates is simply amazing.

Consumers don't have to pay up though, and it's what happens if they don't that will be interesting. Selling $10 worth of plastic for $150 (or whatever it is) may be preferable to not selling it for $200.

That said, I have no idea if they are selling like 5% of their volume to the US or 50%, which will impact their thinking.

Must be liberating not understanding economics. You guys would be voting Podemos over here.

You're acting like it's rocket science. At a 30% mark up less customers will purchase which will cause a massive drop off in this company's profits. You got people on here complaining about games being $80 over 70$ refusing to purchase, but somehow the expensive niche items on Play Asia that don't even do anything like statues are going to continue selling? Play Asia is fucked in this situation.

If the alternative is loosing money on each purchase because the tariffs are eating their margins, then their hand is forced here.

Lol sour grapes and toys (not imported) been thrown up in here. Playasia doesn't exclusively supply USA they supply all Asian regions surrounding it as well as Europe yet Amerifats trying to declare that they'll be going out of business without their purchases lol get over yourselves already.

What the fuck dude. Most stuff doesnt even has a 30% profit marigin and you expect them to eat it. Some are really fucking clueless.

Whether they eat it or attempt to pass it on they are screwed. Neither will work out for them. With the latter they now run the risk of customers no longer doing business with them and shopping elsewhere. Unless you guys are telling me Play Asia essentially have a monopoly on selling these particular products to the US market.

Other asian retailers will follow. Why would any smart business lose money over stupid decisions like this.

Both of the comments you said this in reply to were correct. Increasing the price will likely hurt demand, and consumers can choose not to buy a luxury item more easily than they can choose not to buy essentials.

If the alternative is loosing money on each purchase because the tariffs are eating their margins, then their hand is forced here.
'If' that is the only alternative, sure. That seems unlikely in this case.

But is the profit margin that low on a ~$200 plastic figurine? I doubt it.

Keep in mind that (unless they are going to stop selling these entirely), they are going to be paying for the equipment etc. to produce them either way. The variable cost seems the relevant consideration, and that must be pretty low.
