Played Xbox360 demos at Walmart

I just got back from my lunch break. I went to pick up Batman Begins, and was surprised to see an Xbox360 kiosk sitting there unnoticed.
It contains the following content:

Project Gotham Racing movie
Need for Speed Most Wanted movie
Kameo movie + a demo to play
Call of Duty 2 movie + a demo to play
King Kong movie + a demo to play
NBA2k6 movie
NHL2k6 movie
Ghost Recon movie
Test Drive movie
Full Auto movie
Top Spin 2 movie
Amped 3

I went through the majority of the movie clips, and most of them are stuff that has already been posted on the net. They had it hooked up to an LCD screen though, and that made the clips look nicer. The controller feels really nice in the hands, and all the buttons are well placed. It felt smaller then the Controller S.
You can also make your way through the different blades of the system functionality, although a lot of stuff doesn't have links to it. I was pretty impressed by the interface of the system.

Honestly, the clip that blew me away the most was the Need for Speed Clip. It looked really good on that big of a screen. It makes me wonder if that is what actual gameplay will look like, or if it was pre-rendered. PGR3 was pretty good as well. Kameo looked really good, as did NBA 2k6.

Top Spin 2 made my jaw drop when it zoomed in on the players face (I could see the pores on the guys face), but then not so much when it showed the actual game play. It needs more graphical polish overall.

The call of duty demo is pretty fun to play. I died a lot though due to not knowing the controls, and not having an inverted axis (I use these as standard on FPS). It is intense.

NHL2k6 looked okay on the screen, but it is the same clip from back at E3. Honestly though it didn't look as bad as we have been made to believe from the small clips. It makes me hold out hope that perhaps they have really been massaging the game and just have not unveiled it yet. It definetly doesn't hold a candle to NBA2k6 though.

Full Auto to me will be one of those games that just hits the stores and I will go and buy it, even if I don't plan too. It looks fun, and looks like a good way to showcase the hardware.

I didn't watch Ghost Recon, King Kong or Test Drive due to a cramped neck and lack of time.

As I think more about the first impression in person, I was pretty sold on the stuff I saw. Everything was a substantial jump over current gen stuff, but I will also say that it isn't going to make me forget about some of the games this gen, or make me not want to play them due to less graphical flair.

I was disapointed to find several no-shows on the video clips. I was expecting at the very least to see:

Saints Row,
The Outfit,
Perfect Dark 0
Madden 06
Fifa
Dead or Alive
Oblivion

There are several titles among these no-shows that probably could be system sellers depending on who is looking.

I'll be happy answer more questions if I can. I live in Albuquerque NM by the way.

You missed the Hexic demo! It's on the leftmost blade (the orange one, not the green one with the rest of the games).

I now have an unbelievable urge to go to Wall Mart. I must go now and prepare myself for the onslaught of noise, brightness and fashion crimes that is the Mart.

Well, I'm going to Wal-Mart tomorrow to pull the "My girlfriend bought me the wrong version of Total Overdose" excuse so I can get the PS2 ver instead of the XBox ver, so I might as well see if they've got the 360 kiosk (doubtful) up yet.

Awesome!

I'll have to swing by later this evening (yes, to pick up Batman Begins as well) and check it out. I wonder if any of the specialty stores have it yet. I figure that if Wal-Mart has their kiosk, then Gamestop, EB, and GameCrazy should all have theirs as well.

Kind of surprised that PDZ isn't on there. Does this mean delay?
Yep. And that means Madden, Fifa, DoA etc are delayed as well since they weren't available either [/wild speculation].

I wish I could provide pics... But I am truthful and not trying to yank your guys chains.

The only thing that sucked is that they have the monitor mounted high, so you really strain your next looking at the screen. I'm sitting here trying to program at work and it is still bugging me.

I saw the Hexic demo on there, but was running out of time. I wanted to play Kameo as well, but [see above excuse]

Another note... It is too bad they really F*ed with Amped 3 and how it plays, cause it looked pretty nice graphically.

Okay smart guy.

PDZ has been one of the most highly touted, eagerly awaited, heavily hyped games of the 360's launch. Call me crazy, but not having even a MOVIE of your first party heavyweight is a little bit suspect.

Yeah, I hate how Wal-Mart kiosks are always neck-strainers. The GBA and DS kiosks are about the only ones that you can play for longer than 5 minutes.

Until you hear it's been delayed, it hasn't been delayed. Still, PDZ or any other game, hasn't been confirmed for launch day either.. :lol

I was merely pointing out that those launch games aren't on the demo either, so PDZ being absent means nothing.

Plus I heard Bill bought every copy for himself![/wild speculation]

Yeah, where's the location? I wonder when we'll get the kiosk at my TRU. We just cleared the space for it yesterday.

Damn, they weren't supposed to have kiosks till the 22nd. I live in a not-so-rich area (read:the projects) so we never get kiosks on time.

His original post says it was Albuquerque, New Mexico.

i dont understand this at all. this weekend microsoft went all out with an event in NYC at the javitz center and all they did was show movies and have boring speeches and wal-mart gets kiosks to play!? makes no sense.....

Well I played around with Kameo, dont know what build :P, on a debug machine a couple of days ago. Think Zelda or Nintendo but not quite as polished, like all Rare games I guess.

It was a castle level with lots of orcs and LOTS of dragons flying around the castle and you basicly had to survive. 4 'forms' of Kameo was already availible, ice monster, rock monster, flower guy and Kameo herself.

Kameo couldn't do much, fly around and jumpkick if you pulled the r-trigger and the l-trigger at the same time.
Ice monster had a FPS aim where he throws icicles on the trolls and he can run around and kinda punch people.
The flowerguy can box, really good, and can crawl/spin around and hit everyone on their feet.
Rockmonster can crawl into a round rock and roll around a la marble madness, here he can do a sonic spin, i.e charge up and release to have some sweet orc bowling.

That level was mainly rockmonster time so lost of thin passages and skate ramps to spin and roll around on to get further with big rooms with challenges as kill all the orcs and a door will open. Nothing spectacular but pretty funny. And oh...the GFX rocks :)

*edit for easier reading*

I didn't have time to play the Kameo demo... I've been sold on that game for a long time to pick it up at launch, so I spent my time doing other things. The biggest thing for me was actually feeling the controller and assuring myself that it would fit my hands nice, unlike the first xbox controller.

The Amped footage just showed a huge ass mountain, which impressed me more then SSX does. That was the only reason for my comment.

Somehow I managed to miss that, :lol.
That makes sense though, as the West to East trickle is standard in this stuff. Should have this in within a few days, then.
Ah, it'll be great to see people enjoy it, ask how much it will cost, say "Fuck that" and leave.

hmmmm...? New mexico and the dude at teamxbox forums saw it in Montanna. I wonder if they made it to the East coast yet?

Mental note: check Walmart on way home from work.

I think the kiosks look awesome. The blurb said that the stores wouldn't be getting them until next week, so it's nice to see that some are getting them in early.

i'm checking a wal-mart here in oklahoma (and taking a digital recorded and camera just in case). if i find it, i'll post pics and a movie clip in a few hours.

Means the one they showed to the press was fake ;P The proper PDZ will be be shipped to press near launch!

i stopped by wal mart, TRU, target and bestbuy today . nothin at any of those retailers. called eb too they didnt have one either. target was completely redisigning their gaming section and you could tell they are getting ready for the 360 because they had the samsung HDTV up

I'll check at my local Wal-Mart this evening, probably.

Reminds me of the time I went to the big Child World store (a TRU competitor that eventually died) at the local mall in suburban Chicago and saw they had SMB3 running on the PlayChoice 10 machine strategically located near the exit door. It was an OMGWTFBBQ moment of my childhood.

I ran into Wal-Mart the other day for the first time in forever. Shit loads of people, screaming kids, and everyone talking as loud as possible... I felt stressed as hell by the time I was walking out 5 minutes later. Don't make me go back.

No kidding, Wal-Mart is hell to be in if you have a headache. It's amazing the amount of noise that people feel is acceptable to make in public. My wife and I visited a Wal-Mart followed by a Super Target in the same day and we both noticed that it was a WAY more laid back and enjoyable experience at Target.

However, if Wal-Mart has the kiosks this early, it's probably worth going only once more.

I have to swing by my Wal-mart later tonight. Have to grab Batman Begins after all! I'll also walk through the games section to see if anything is on display.

I made a quick run to WalMart last night to grab a few scary movies,I didn't see a 360 station. Probably will be up sometimes this week, should be fun to check out.

It won't be as great as playing with naked breasts but the 360 controller will have to do..:)
