PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

I feel like my attempts to be a more aggressive player have backfired and made me worse, because 90% of my attempts to flank someone end with me hitting them just enough times to leave them alive behind cover and ready to shoot me in the head.

That happened to me as well, which is why I'm never aggressive to anyone far enough that I know I can't kill before they get to cover.

Now I just stalk them until they get distracted by someone else or far enough away from cover.

That is of course if I can't just avoid them altogether, that's still my go-to unless we're like in the top 10 and aggressiveness is unavoidable.

Even when you lose in duos, its so satisfying to at least kill one of the players. You just KNOW that pisses them off lol

I liked this game playing solo; but thought I'd drop off it pretty quick. I've now been playing duos consistently with the same person and it is WAY funner. Like 10000x better. It's possibly less tense/scary, but it's also less boring when you're having a run where you see no action.

Wooo!! Finally got this game today!
Played two matches and its such a dang blast! Its all the best parts of DayZ but its playable! :p

I got #19 on my second match. I was camping out on the rocky mountains and battled a dude and then died because I thought I had my shotgun out but it was still my UZI that was empty. :[

Still super rad though!

I honestly did not think I would stick with this game much more then 10 or so hours, and definitely not outside of duos and squads but I probably have 20 hours in solos, which is the same in duos and squads.

For sure, if I know I’m going to die I like at least taking one of them out because I know it ruins their game.

I know it’s kind of shitty but sometimes even in solos when I know I’m not going to make it, I will push hard on someone to at least take them out or keep them busy enough they get stuck in the gas too.

I almost feel like i'm at my breaking point with this game. Made it to #2 today. Out in the open on a beach. Prone with no one having spotted me.

Got M16, 4X scope and silencer. See my enemy totally unaware. Shoot. Hit him 3 times. Still alive (by how much I don't know).

He hides behind a rock pile. I take my time when maybe I should have rushed. I see him. He starts to shoot. Take me down to a quarter health. I go prone. He continues to shoot. I can't see shit but somehow he sees me.

Dead.

Fuck this game. Dammit man. Just give me a chicken dinner already.

I feel like this game is more fun in duo.

I feel there is more fun potential in duos but there is also more stress potential in duos. You have to consistently communicate and perform.

Yeah I can see that. I know I feel like crap when I can't get to my buddy. Or that they have to watch me if i'm doing well. But I feel like I get less frustrated when playing with a friend.

I enjoy the communication and team work aspect of the game so maybe that's where the enjoyment of duo is coming from.

Tonight I got my first connection issue icon on the screen. NA server. Was hanging for up to 3-4 seconds at times. But that new dusk skybox though.... :O

Meh, if my duo partner dies early I feel like it gives me free reign to be a maniac. I just jump on a bike and get some sweet air/try to run people over.

Are cheaters pretty rampant in this game? I got to top 3 just now and turned a corner to a guy standing on top of a rock in a clearing and got headshotted so fast I couldn't even think. I was full health with l2 armor and vest so I was surprised at the instant death.

The level 2 helm doesn't protect the face, so if he hit your face, that happens.

is the akm supposed to suck being fired from the hip?

It seems I always lose in close combat fights with this gun unless I'm aiming down the scope

Yeah, all helmets protect the entire head hit box including face. It's been tested. I should find a video.

Maybe they did/are considering it since they've added the ballistic mask but for now, they all protect the face as well as the head.

Edit:

Here is pretty much everything you need to know about armor and helmets. I've seen all this confirmed on Sacriels stream live.

Kar98 1 hit kills with a headshot on T2 helmet, as does M24 and AWM of course.

As someone who is normally a boss at shooters, I fucking SUCK at this shit. Maybe it's the clunky controls, but damn... Anyone need a duo partner who's noob friendly? PM me for my steam info if so.

I've got the same problem haha, mostly it's just figuring out where the hell everyone is.

I wouldn't say rampant but considering the player count and type of game, there are quite the few, not to mention servers trust client.

If you use third person the guns get a accuracy penalty and the spread goes insane on things like the AK. It's also got a relative low ROF compared to other guns so unless you headshot it's not that great.

Also ping times and server tickrate can make it seem like you instantly died when he actually fired 2-3 shots at you. Hit detection seems to be mostly clientside which is why you can get killed while in cover etc.

Holy fuck, I just won my first match. That was intense. The final circle pushed us into an open field and all I had for cover was a tree. This guy was firing on me like nuts and I shot him pretty low. He pulled out a fucking pan and rushed me lmao

That feel when no ammo.

Great match yesterday. Started in the arse end of nowhere in a small farm with garbage loot and someone taking pot shots at me right off the bat. I chickened out and fled, then spent the next 25 minutes with nothing but a pistol to my name and 50% health working my way down from the hills into Georgopol (and no viable dwellings to loot), waiting for the inevitable shot to ring out and end me... but it never came.

I was always riding the blue, so I did myself out of being able to quick loot whatever scraps I could, swam across to the south part of the town, and ended up on a beach where I couldn't mount up and over because of the cliff edge, and... well, the blue trapped me:

#4 finish, without ever firing a single bullet. I don't know if it was because I was treating it almost as a pacifist run, or just thanks to dumb luck, but it was a rewarding match as I realised I was able to survive on my wits all that way without needing to be tooled up like Schwarzenegger to achieve a high degree of success. It's making me rethink how I tackle matches in future, but the key takeaway is to never write yourself off.

Gotta keep a cool head* when you shoot like shit, like me when I completely whiffed my glock: My first and only superman punch kill

*and by cool head i mean panic, accidentally pick up a new pistol instead of the ammo, expertly duck his attacks and survive with like 5 health :)

If you want an easy chicken dinner and have played the game a decent amount of time, try a different server other than the one you usually play on.

Discovered the reason I find other servers easier to play on is because you have a different skill rating attributed to each individual server and gametype, so even though I'm 1744 solo NA, I'm unranked in Asia, so my first match on Asia after playing for so long on NA was incredibly easy.

Now I've won 1 out of 1 game on both Asia and Europe in solo with 7 kills both games.

Swapping servers is about on par with making a smurf account. You're basically starting fresh. It's kind of incredible how poorly people at those lower rankings play the game after you've put a bit of time into the game. I didn't have to put any effort into the win I just got on the Asia server.

Can't stand squads. Getting people to stop looting, try to bunker down in a good position in the circle, and expand loot off kills is like herding cats.

Squads are great if you know the people, Most of my play has been four man squads with workmates. I couldn't imagine playing it with randoms though.

Where's the fun in that?

I've almost primarily been playing with random squads.

Naturally, its really hit or miss. But, compared to most other multiplayer games I've played the player base is generally pretty good. Most of the time I'll have decent squadmates that are helpful and not just idiots screaming obscenities into their mics. Granted, you still get those people but you get some good, normal people too.

My only complaint with random squads are times when its clear the two or three other people you're matched up with are on Discord or something and you're the odd man out trying to figure out what they're doing.

I don't know what it is but its so wicked satisfying being able to blow a door apart or shooting a hole in it to lob a nade through. Anyone know if there's bullet pen on the first shot through an undamaged door?

I sucked so hard today, a few top 5 finishes and every other game I got rekt. The worst death was as I made it to a buggy to escape the oncoming blue circle, someone tried to snipe me but missed. I thought to myself "Haha nice try idiot", as I pressed F only to perch myself on the top of the buggy in the passenger seat, giving them an EZ headshot. Fuck...

First game of the day was a solo dinner without any first-aid/medkits, bless the pan for saving my arse two times that round.
