Playing MGS2 after MGS3...holy crap.

After being on a MGS3 binge for nearly a month, I thought about playing a little bit of MGS2, to see how it holds up. And...it's not good. The controls are much more twitchy and unresponsive...and that's just the walking controls. Aiming in FPV reminded me of a certain MGS3 boss(I see it...THE PAIN)...just horrible in comparison. MGS3's controls are much more improved than I had originally thought.

Graphics-wise, the game still looks good...with the exception of character models, specially their faces. Man do they look BAD, specially Olga's, who looks *very* poly starved. Snake looks downright WEIRD too, Big Boss is the definitive version of Snake now, no doubt about it. The only plus is the 60fps, which strangely enough, I don't miss it at all in MGS3. The series don't really need the extra framerate at all.

In resume, I see MGS2 going the way of MGS1. Why bother playing it when you have a much superior sequel available?

Really, to all the people recommending others to play MGS2 before MGS3, you are all dead wrong. MGS2 has become worthless.

Well if anyone wants the story I suggest playing on very easy and rushing through the game, because there's just no point in playing the game for the actual gameplay.

Whats the option for in MGS3 where you choose between ~ never played MGS, I like MGS1 , I like MGS2 ~ for?

I picked MGS1 so....

I'm yet to play MGS3, but I know I'll love it. I also love MGS2, but I know that I wont return to it after MGS3 :\.

Once you go big (boss) you can never go back (to girly man Raiden)

MGS2 was far more homoerotic +1

MGS3 is better in almost every other way though.

But I think Jett is being too harsh on MGS2, I yet have to go back to it after MGS3, but I'm sure its gameplay stands extremely well on its own (it remains the game I beat the most times this generation), especially on higher difficulty levels, which have been disappointing in MGS3 from what I heard so far. European Extreme for MGS3 might fix that.

I've read that picking the MGS1 option makes the stamina deplete slower. I'm not sure if it's actually true. The intro is also slightly different. Other than, I haven't detected any other changes.

DaCoco: Having 60fps doesn't mean anything when the controls are more responsive in a freaking 30fps game. :P

@sonycowboy: I'm actually not against Raiden.

You know, there WILL be a thing I'll miss playing MGS3 - the Dog Tags. It was such a great addition in MGS2. Dunno whether there'll be a similar reason to play MGS3 over and over.

Well, there's a reason to hold up every single guard: interrogation. I replay MGS3 for fun. :P

I dunno, I think MGS2 holds up very well. It has a more polished look and feel, I prefer the lighting choices, and 60 fps makes a huge difference. The controls are just fine and the laser sight makes gun usage very easy (so I don't see how you could complain).

MGS3 is better, of course, but I think MGS2 is the more polished game.

Yup, the 60 fps of MGS2 makes a big motherfucking difference. MGS2 does look a hell of a lot smoother in motion. The difference in framerate is truly jarring.

I found it weird that the indoor environments in MGS3 didn't look any better than those in MGS2 (despite the 30 FPS).. was hoping for some more areas with cool shadowing but there was actually less than in MGS2.

Before MGS3, MGS2 was my favourite game this generation. After playing MGS3 continuously since release, I can't stand MGS2's gameplay. MGS3 beats it in every gameplay aspect, however, I still consider MGS2 one of the best games this generation because I remember it when i first played it and how much fun I had with it.

I do think MGS2 has a more entertaining stroy. MGS3 didn't havce the huge plot twists that MGS2 have. MGS3 has a fantastic stroy, but I feel it lacks compared to MGS2. What MGS3 managed to do better storywise was execute the plot in a way that made it easier for the player to Understand. MGS2 had a very good story, but It was told terribly.

Well, this thread is more about gameplay than graphics. Other than the character models MGS2 still looks good, even compared to MGS3.

And...hehe...regarding shadows in MGS3, there's like only one place in MGS2 where there are real time shadows(or whatever). You do get them in MGS3 when the spotlights are on you, though. The first trailer was very deceptive about this, since it showed shadows everywhere.
