PlayStation 5 information page on Turkish retailer suggests backward compatibility from PS2 upwards

I'm very skeptical about this one, however a friend of mine who is originally from Turkey that I went to college with ensures me that Hepsiburada is a huge retailer there. A legitimate one, not one of the fake ones. With 2.9 million likes on Facebook they seem legitimate... Anyone speak Turkish or from Turkey on GAF can offer more thoughts?

This PlayStation 5 listing on their web site has the following paragraph.

Unique Design Combining Old and New
Since all games in previous versions of PlayStation 5 are supported, these games continue to play in the same way. In other words, all games on PlayStation 2, 3 and 4 can be played on PS5. With this feature, the Sony brand, which steals the hearts of gamers, enables gamers to continue their games without giving up the games they are used to.

Could be very unlikely but you never know. I originally picked this up on Reddit where other Turkish users have vouched for the retailer.

I'm going to assume this is either intentionally fake or an employee felt at liberty to include fanfiction in the placeholder page for preorders.

Sometimes retailers don't know everything about a system and just fill in the blanks.

However like you said it's a pretty large retailer over there and I don't believe they will include that information unless they expect it.

Not saying it's true but it's certainly a more credible than some random PasteBin. There's a company behind this that could have legal actions taken against it if they make up BS.

it would be great if true, but I seriously doubt it.

We're like 5 days from finally getting an official showing of the system. Let's just wait for that, and if questions like this aren't answered, then go back to ridiculous and endless speculation :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Why would Sony hide a feature that huge after so much R&D and engineering to make it work? The answer is, they wouldn't -- they'd be shouting from the rooftops about it.

Why did Sony choose June 4th as the date to reveal the PS5?
It is obvious that the PS5 will be backwards compatible for the PS1 up to PS4.

Less than a week left until The Second Coming!

I wouldnt want to put a dvd in a ps5 anyway, so dont care.

Not paying to download a ps2 game again. I'll just find the rom online

I don't know about you guys but I can't wait to get my hands on the PS5's new wireless controller/arm: "France duals".

edit - I understand the translation is wrong, thats the link at the top of the page.

id guess to have that mic drop moment as cerny''s slide presentation left room open in the category for it to be open ended!

mom hoping for a mic drop moment for this tho

Employees come up with weird imaginations. A friend recently told me that an employee at Walmart told him if he buys the ps4 pro, ps5 games will be supported on it and not on the regular ps4.

This site is very popular in Turkey. This is the introductory information about ps4 of the same site.
It is written very neatly and in detail, just like that Ps5 presentation they released. I do not remember that they have created such a promotional page for any product before. Maybe they accidentally leaked their preorder page. So on 4 June, maybe we will see the price, design and many features of Ps5.

I hope this is true, but since there's no mention of PS1, which should be the simplest to emulate, I have a strong feeling this is in regards to PS Now. So the same PS2 - PS4 catalogue that's on PS Now can continue to play on PS5.

I hope not though. I want the full PS1-PS4 catalogue.

Edit: ChoosableOne ChoosableOne beat me to it

There's no way. Why would they add PS2, PS3, PS4 and leave off PS1.

It sounds like it is probably just PS4. But, ifthey did go further back, I'm sure they'd just add everything.

Luckily, my PS3 still plays all PS1 and PS2 games, so I can just keep the PS3 and PS5 hooked up in the media closet to have access to everything.

I just don't see it. PS2 and PS3 emulation would be so very taxing on the hardware. Both have a fundamentally different architecture. Just let me play my PS4 games and I'll be happy.

Sony has the source code to both systems.
That alone removes a ton of guess work to get proper emulators working.
The emulators out in the wild require loads of brute force computing to run properly.

So Mark Cerny just conveniently forgot to mention that the PS5 would be backwards compatible with PS2 and PS3 games when he talked about backwards compatibility in the deep dive? And instead of mentioning this massive selling point, decided to basically say that not even most PS4 games would be playable on the PS5 at launch?

Doubtful. Really, really doubtful.

The PS4 plays PS2 games locally, in 1080p, officially.

Doesn't make sense for Sony to release this information to retailers before their event next week.

Fake news man, it screams of fake. But then you see modders coming up with RPCS3 and tools to run MGS4 and PS3 games on high end PC through software emulation. So yeah wouldn't be surprised if we did get backwards compatibility with older consoles outside of PS4. Not going to happen I guess :(

It's fiction. I can believe the ps1, ps2 and ps4 BC, sure but ps3 BC is just not possible. Vastly different architectures. But if this is true, then this is likely through streaming, ps now. I just don't see it running natively on ps5. But through streaming, sure, I can believe that.

Sony loves their reveals though. We'd hear about something this big at an event. Not saying it's legit cause I doubt it but they'd wait for a big event to tell the world.

Cerny already talked about the BC in his presentation. No way would he have left out a small detail about how the thing plays nearly the entire back catalogue. It's time to let that dream die.

I was already deeply disapointed don't play with my heart. This will make a huge difference for me if this is true. Next week is gonna be sonething else.

A PC with PS5 specs is powerful enough to run RCPS3 at good speed, so it is possible for Sony to build a better PS3 emulator for PS5.

The only problem is emulated games will be digital only, the few you can download from the PS store because lincences, since PS4 and I assume PS5 can't run old cd's and DVD's.

There's absolutely no reason that it wouldn't be possible but that doesn't make it probable. Also why would PS1 be excluded, that makes no sense.

A few thoughts:
1) The source is incredibly shaky, and quite far from anything official
2) PS3 BC should be achievable this gen, and I'd be very surprised if we don't see some form of it (even after launch)

That's not how it works or supposed to work. You own it? You download it. As simple as that

How do you own in the first place......by buying it? As said I'm not buying ps2 games again

What you mean by "you own it"?

At this point i've come to accept that PS5 will not have PS1-PS3 BC. It's disappointing but not that big of a problem for me since i have multiple setups for 2 PS3s and 4 PS2s. I have massive physical libraries of PS1/PS2/PS3 games so i will always have room for PS2 and PS3 setups.

If however they announce something (which i find very unlikely) it will be a pleasant surprise.
