I'm curious if PlayStation for example will keep their competitive games exclusively on PlayStation, personally I want them to because PlayStation and their Devs are not prepared to deal with PC rampant cheating issue.

I know Guerilla Games 2nd studio has been working on a "competitive" shooter since 2018/2019. Maybe even the TLOU BR could be competitive.

Time will tell I guess.

You thought i was serious? Lmao.
Well in all honesty - I couldn't give a shit about eSports. As a matter of fact, just a took a tiny dump, and I think I cared for it more than I ever will about watching other people play video games.

But I'm an old geezer who's not into what all the "cool kids" are into nowadays, maybe this is a good investment. Or not. At any rate, I doubt this will make a dent in Sony's warchest, such as it is. Now OTOH Bungie for +$3Bn... but that's a different topic.

Good thing they are releasing 3 single player games this year. And at least one that we know next year.
They did not buy Bungie and make this investment for "single player" games.

they have even stated in financial filings their intent to move more into this space.

They can walk and chew gum at the same time. They said they're expanding in both areas with the current hiring sprees going on at almost all of their studios being an indicator.

Jimbo either make a shitty acquisition here or they are hiding some major acquisition regarding esport which we dont know about.

It could be interesting if they wind up creating tournaments for the entire PlayStation community with fun prizes instead of your standard esports bracket stuff.

Interesting. I didn't even know that thing existed. Can it do more than sports, battle royale, or fighting games? Like some sort of score attack or time trial?

Which is why this acquisition doesn't make much sense. Sony already has the same functionality. Only thing I can see that's new here is the cross-game stat tracking and maybe Sony wants to fire their in-house tournament people and have this company run it.

With Sony aggressively growing their GaaS business, I feel this makes some kind of sense. Online eSports are certainly massive - not that I personally interact with that scene much.

Hopefully they do, the cheating on PC has plagued alot of cross platform games. BF2042 comes to mind

I guess this buys Sony's way into PC esports. That's not a bad thing considering their recent gaas investments and push into PC gaming. PS4 is home to a lot of competitive gaming so it's good to see Sony supporting it.

Neat… now put destiny with all expansions on the plus service. Of course they would probably only add the f2p version haha

They bought Bungie who has a ton of experience making PC shooters. Bungie should let them know how to design PC multiplayer games.

True. My first impression when reading about the acquisition of this particular company is that they appear to be able to handle leaderboards at a large scale which is why I made that first post. Maybe it's just a technology/ip grab instead of trying to build out that specific capability from the ground up.

edit: It was this specific statement in the linked article:
Repeat.gg CEO Aaron Fletcher added: "Repeat.gg was designed to enable new tournament formats that are easy to enter and scalable to millions of players.

I have no issues with design of mp games, more like an actual Anti-Cheat that's worth a shit. I'm not sure if there are any cheaters on Destiny but it's also a different type of a game.

Nintendo doesn't have to care about their esports. They're Nintendo. They probably would make more money selling a Zelda game than hosting their own Splatoon or Smash Bros tournament.

Doing more of one thing doesn't mean they will do less of the other. Not when most of their studios are working on multiple projects.

eSports is the future, we got degrees of gaming now. Though, not sure, what's special about this acquisition? does PS have any competitive eSports title like Siege or CSGO/Dota?

Considering they also bought EVO, is this all gonna be for fighting games? Console eSports are kind of a joke outside of that genre.

Sony's focus on Gaas is concerning to me as a huge single player fan… 😨
Im a Multiplayer guy, i play only on Playstation, Sony's offerings have always sucked Multi i dont complain and i enjoy Single player games.

Let them switch it up, im for Multiplayer
