PlayStation Plus Price to increase in Canada

Probably from Toronto, or Vancouver!

I'm going to pretend like I know what that means.

Keep in mind that sony recently announced that this has been their most profitable generation ever. And by 3x or 200%. yet they keep shuttering studios, cancelling games, laying off devs and increasing prices on 5 year old consoles like they are about to run out of business.

the people at the top, especially in japan, are a bunch of ex CFO bean counters. They dont care about gaming or their other products. They only care about increasing their stock prices so they can get a big bonus or raise at the end of the year.

They are no different than Microsoft at this point.

Or no different to any other company. Since Covid, big business has attempted to squeeze as much money out of people as possible. Companies are pulling in record profits, but still they think they can squeeze a little bit more. All to chase infinite growth.

It's not sustainable.

Covid showed what people are willing to pay. Just like the ongoing trade war is going to show what people are willing to pay. When businesses know that, they'll know that's how much they should charge.

The cost of living has skyrocketed. Push people too far and they just won't buy luxuries like video games because they won't have the disposable income. Slightly off topic, but in the car today I was listening to KISS radio. They had a fund raising event where they were asking listeners to donate money to help poor families feed their children during the Easter half term. This is the UK we're talking about. One of the richest nations in the world and we now have radio stations begging for cash to feed starving children because of extreme poverty. It's like we've gone back to Victorian levels of poverty.

Funny thing is the Euro is like the highest it's been in 3 years, didn't stop Sony from increasing the PS5 console price. At least when they increased it back in August 2022, the Euro was basically par with the dollar. They're just taking the piss at this point, especially since Xbox offers zero competition in that region.

Sony are taking the piss. Never before has a PS console cone up in price mid way through it's lifecycle. Ever.

Sony know that they can get away with it as well. Same with Nintendo and their "Variable pricing" for games. Piss take.

could have sworn they just did an increase.

dah well, just turned off auto renewal. shit was barely worth it at the lower price point.

The raised prices a year and half ago.

The base price was $70 CDN --> $94 --> now $110.

Going from $70 to $110 is a 57% price increase since September 2023.

This is what no competition does to the market. Arrogant Sony is officially back, baby. Fkn Phil had to torpedo Xbox. The people who were cheering Xbox getting out of the console business are going to get a lot of fun surprises. I was against Xbox going on the acquisition spree, but I hope Xbox can make a comeback, no matter how unlikely it is, because this is what a lack of competition leads to.

Actual price bumps for a console more than halfway into the generation instead of a price drop, a pro console almost double the price and a paltry bump in specs, anemic first-party output, a shift away from pushing tech and blockbusters to pushing out cross-gen titles, and slightly upgraded last-gen pipelines. Also, this is coming from a guy who has bought all Sony consoles and enjoyed their prior generations immensely.

Gaming has become too damn expensive. You go for consoles and you get skinned by subscriptions, you go for pc and you get fleeced to hell by hardware prices while avoiding subscriptions. I think I might take a breather from any new purchases from here and focus on my backlog and old games.

They are going to announce the prices increases for US tomorrow when Nintendo announce the prices for the Mario Kart World DLCs

You can do a complete backup and restore... what are you talking about?
It's a dumb solution to backup and restore individual saves. The proper solution existed on PS4 before Sony took it away.

And if they are going to do it, they should offer either free cloud saves like Xbox or Steam or at least a cheap version like Nintendo.

Whatever hassle is on PS systems just for old saves sounds stupid.

When I picked up playing Skyrim again since it got boosted with higher res and 60 fps on SX a few years ago, I had installed the game again and I loaded up an old save of mine from like 2015 when I dabbled with it on X1. All the saves were there too. Like 400 of them.

They're doing it to make more money.

Dumb is like it was a mistake or something. It's entirely intentional.

Well, yeah, and unfortunately people are paying (last year for me even with a discount).

Like I said people should stop.

Sony is testing out the price elasticity of the service and the price will continue to go up if people just take it.

At best you should do it monthly as needed.

I agree. Monthly though didn't make much sense since you could pick it up usually with 25% discount and another 10% off on PSN cash from Costco.

I've been feeling the same way lately. I gave up on Gamepass last year, as I primarily play single player games and don't care about day 1 games. If I get the itch to play a multiplayer game, I just play a F2P game as a subscription is not required to play those on Xbox, but not sure if it's the same on Playstation.

If you look at the last 3 years of PS+, ask yourself how many months it was actually worth it. A 25% discount on top of these ridiculous prices is nothing.

My AMEX had a deal for 20 dollars off of HBO Max, but only if you spend over 100 dollars, meaning you have to sign up for a year. It would come to 12.99 a month compared to 20-21 dollars a month, but the reality is I'm not going to watch MAX every month. There isn't enough content for that. I'll cancel it again in 2-3 months.

Sony PS+ is worth the money. It only cost the price of 1 Starbucks drink per month under the new price tag, so it's really nothing.

if you want Sony to continue delivery high quality Ps+ games, cloud save, multiplayer, you should help support them.

Sometimes i wonder if they wouldn't make more money if they decreased the price a lot and actually promoted it like what happened back then with PS Now.

They decreased the price by 50% and the userbase increased exponentially. (ironically by almost 50%)

These companies are doing all these price increases and i'm starting to wonder if gaming is getting way too expensive for me as a hobby.

I'm already paying over 150€ for this in Portugal. A country where the minimum wage is...870€ lmao

I can only imagine in even more underdeveloped countries.

No wonder kids are asking for PCs these days instead of consoles. These companies really need a fucking wake up call. They're only going to alienate any potential audiences they have. Especially when you got F2P games dominating the market, asking people to pay for the privilege to use all the features the game they bought comes with, what a crock of shit.

This really sucks for me, because while I do have a gaming PC, I am just not happy with how certain games run on my machine, like Monster Hunter Wilds....sure, it runs serviceable, but it looks like dog shit. The same game really does look a lot nicer on my PS5 Pro, and the 40fps mode makes it damn near perfect for me....except I can't join hunts online, and I ain't paying these stupid fucking sub prices. I would really consider going all in on PC if graphics cards weren't so outrageous.

What a fucking joke. Previous price increase was the reason I dropped PS Plus (after using it for YEARS).

Now I have one month of Premium (so I can test shit ton of games on Pro) but after it expires...

I suspect this will hit the United States as well sooner rather than later. I ditched PS+ after their last wave of price increases. The games they put up — especially on Essentials tier — have been more misses than hits, or they were old games I had already thoroughly played and had no reason to ever play again.

Sony (and Nintendo) walling off cloud saves behind a subscription extortion plan still rubs me the wrong way, especially when PC and Xbox have cloud saves completely free for all.

I rarely play anything multiplayer these days. The "benefits" of PS+ rarely match the cost, at least for me.

Sony is extra shitty about it because PS4 saves could be stored on a USB drive if you want to move them, but PS5? nope, gotta use the cloud saves only. Fuck off with that.

Nintendo...still shitty, but I have to imagine they're doing it as some anti-piracy measure since I know at least one of their previous systems was exploited by using alter save game data.

Everyone in here is losing their minds, but these prices changes are bringing worldwide prices in line with US prices from 2 years ago. At least for the 12 month subs.

$109.99 CAD = $79.31 USD
$189.99 CAD = $136.99 USD
$224.99 CAD = $162.23 USD

Essential = $80 USD
Plus = $135 USD
Premium = $160 USD

By the way, it's a fucking racket - not worth these prices. But it's consistent, and be glad you at least got a couple years before you were hit by the increase. Also, remember when there was a warning/notification before price changes? Now they announce at the same time it goes live, and try to bury it in the news.

Will definitely be keeping an eye out black friday deals this year. Sony has absolutely lost it with these price increases.

Still cheaper than Germany

Plan | Canada | Germany
Essential | 109,99 CAD(~ 69,60 €) | 71,99 €(~ 113,80 CAD)
Extra | 189,99 CAD(~ 120,18 €) | 125,99 €(~ 199,15 CAD)
Premium | 224,99 CAD(~ 142,33 €) | 151,99 €(~ 240,32 CAD)

I stopped buying it years ago when they cut features and raised the price. Paying even more makes it an easy choice to continue not buying it

European prices have their Value Added Tax already baked into their price, 20% I believe. Canadians have to pay the sales tax in top of the listed price.

It's been 10 years people are saying arrogan Sony is back though.

PS+ subscribtion numbers don't go up (around 46-47 million for years now), so they need to find additionnal revenue. It's a shitty move, but understandable. And they do Days of Play and Black Friday deals to the subscription so there are still options to pay less yearly.
