Playstation Meeting 2013 Thread: Go Fourth

However, it's more of a politics thing. He said that because a dev kit is essentially a PC that tries to match the PS4 specs as closely as possible. Therefore, the demo isn't "technically" running on the PS4.

I am not arguing.

However, it begs the question...what other games were demo'd that were not actually running on true PS4 hardware? Was it all of them?

I am NOT saying that the games will not look just as good, when they debut on the PS4...I am just questioning. Did Sony jump the gun, if some (if not most) of the demos were running on PC's which were emulating the PS4? Shouldn't they have waited another month or two, when they had actual hardware, so they could make the blanket statement that "all footage shown running on actual PS4 hardware".????

Besides, at a "console reveal/launch", should you be presenting demos of software that is actually running on Development Kit - PCs.?

Probably the first console reveal where I never actually saw the console...interesting

Remember the Wii U E3 presentation? Although, we did get to see it directly after the presentation if I remember correctly. I do remember the confusion it sparked though.

Maybe it's a new trend. Perhaps MS will only show off the Kinect 2.0 in their presentation...
Complicated times we live in.

This was wow.

Saving more for GDC and E3 no doubt. This was just foreplay. I'm sure they'll blow their wad well before release.

lol no it wasn't, it looked like superheroes and that's exactly what infamous games are. The only similarity is the "cameras" thing. It's good to know that an unreleased game somehow is being copied by a game that came out in 2009.

definitely talking about the story and build up. Where did the copying of gameplay come from?

I'll give it a A-.

Everything about the hardware is GOLD. Cloud is everything i wanted. BC would have been nice. But with the potential netflix style setup they talked about with PS1/2/3 games sounds amazing. Share, the controller, simple camera/sensor. Vita remote play standard ( i hope) is also great. Bummed about no hardware reveal but the controller was good enough. Holiday 2013. Fuckk yessssssss.

Software, good stuff but not perfect. The Final Fantasy cock tease was dumb but hey at least it was something. Possible Watch dogs and Infamous launch titles makes me EXTREMELY hard.

Sad panda about TLG but still have hope for E3.

Now i only have 2 worries.
1. Launch price. I honestly believe Sony isn't dumb enough to go $599 again. PLEASE be $399-$499. I'm begging you!
2. No GTA announcement. Now obviously R* wouldn't be that stupid to not port GTA5 for next gen. My only worry now is a possible MS money hate. I can already see it now. "Exclusive launch only on the next xbox". =(

Other than that i'm fucking pumped. Day 1!

I enjoyed the conference, I'm also level headed in my estimation that this is a work in progress and developers really don't have much to show yet concretely.

With that being said, what we can objectively comment on, the actual specs of the machine are much more exciting for me.

I'm surprised and disappointed to see people like Geoff Keighly keep trying to reiterate that the PS4 won't be a great leap from PS3 visually. I mean, a simple look at the specs of the PS4 vs. the PS3 tells you that this is not the case, 512mb RAM to 8GB DRR5? 8 core CPU and a much stronger GPU? There really is no possible way the machine will under-deliver graphically, it just takes time to create and deliver great visuals no matter what your hardware is.

People have a problem with letting time take its course, and even though what was shown is impressive, it's only the beginning.

What story? I didn't get any kind of story from those videos beyond basic theme, of which there were very little similarities... Please elaborate on what exactly was ripped off?

Regarding people moaning about Sony not showing enough games, I don't see how anyone realistically expected them to show even as much as they did. And they obviously have to save some stuff for E3. Why blow their load this early, just to have the hype die down by June? And if they did show everything tonight, the same people would bitch about seeing the same shit at E3. Sony's damned if they do, and damned if they don't. I personally think holding back is the better strategy. Have the hype fresh at E3 and later, closer to launch.

They can't satisfy everyone's expectations, so there'll always be people who complain. If they were to do a massive game blow out today, the same people that are asking for "moar games" would be crying come E3 because all of the games they'd show then had already been revealed, so they want...well, more.

Honestly, the biggest bombshell for me, and probably for many, was the 8gb GDDR5. I feel that just about everyone got blindsided by this, given that we all expected this to be 4gb and not 8gb. Honestly, personally, if Sony had cut the presentation right after InFamous, it would have exceeded just about anything I expected for this. The only thing I was expecting that they didn't deliver on was the form factor of the console, but again, I guess they have to save it for E3 and make a "splash" then.

yea, same. it looked like a bunch of PS3/360 trailers. if they were to never refer to "PS4" throughout the entire conference, i don't know what i'd be thinking right now because it sure as shit wasn't obvious what they were trying to sell me.

It's not at all. Personally, from what I was told. It's less about motion control, and more about options for the developer to create. Nintendo devices have lost the interest of third party developers, they don't want to develop for it and consider it "a joke." However, Sony has pushed it developers to develop different kind of experiences and capture their imagination from whatever device, or controller, they can.

As someone who isn't a Playstation owner previously this conference did nothing to win me over.
The same controller I'm not a fan of, again. Some social features I don't really care about(though the video upload thing could be nice for sports games). Vita streaming that is a non-factor because I don't own or ever plan on owning a Vita. Generic looking sequels to mildly interesting games. A couple of good looking non-exclusives.

It says a lot to me when the biggest hype moment for GAF seemed to be the announcement of the RAM. Since I'm not one to ever care or know what kind or how much RAM has been in any console or PC I've owned without feeling like I've missed out anything, that announcement did little for me.

Maybe I'm getting old, but so far I have zero next-gen hype. I'll get a WiiU at some point this year because I think the controller is 'next-gen' as well as for Ninty's exclusives, but I can definitely see myself waiting with PS4/720 until well into next year atleast.

What a bad attitude you have.

Watch Dogs gameplay is about hacking and controlling technological devices in society to advance towards your goal.

SuckerPunch game is about telekinetic, teleportation powers, it is a super-hero/villain game much like their previous Infamous games, but with the focus on powers.

I think the reason you are immaturely linking the two, is because of the setting, the notion of Big Brother watching you, controlling you.
This is a setting that is only going to become more relevant in games as we move forward.
Hell, we can even say that Watch Dogs ripped off Matrix in a sense...
Fix the attitude.

attitude is fine, smart ass, thank you. I wasn't even mentioning the gameplay at all so i am not sure why this is getting steam, lol. Just how they presented it. Totally got a Watchdogs vibe.

I'm pretty sure the reason Sony did this conference is for many reasons but one of them is to get over with the things that would waste time at E3.

E3 will be the true showcasing.

So you initially thought it was watchdogs and you were wrong so that = Suckerpunch ripping off the watchdogs trailer? Seriously, this is why i gave you the "wat" earlier.

The social feature did me in too, I don't want that in a system. But, we current have them on this generation of consoles. It's just that people don't have the tools to do it so Sony is giving them the tools.

is it just me, or did Sony hit this one outta the park?

-started right on time, started awesome
-talked about new features (all of them exciting), specs (8GB GDDR5 RAM!?)
-its called PS4

and then just games games games:

-show 1st party stuff (jesus christ at Killzone o_O )
-show move stuff
-tech demo
-onslaught of 3rd party support

holiday 2013. done.

it really was amazing, greater than what i expected.

Two big issues - Media Molecule's presentation looked like the biggest load of shit to someone who has no interest in pretending to bond with their child. God that was painful.

I honestly thought that was the best part of the conference. Imagine what kind of cool stuff we'll get once the creative types get thier hands on it.

I feel conflicted. I never want to see a single moment of any of those games ever again, but I love the look of the controller and social features. This is NOT the reaction I thought I would have.

To me, it felt like they're making a toolkit for people to try to make something viral with, and not much else. I dunno, I'm sure creative things CAN be done, but my use out of something like that is pretty minimal, and I talked to some other parents and they showed no interest either. So I'm not sure who their audience is, despite what it looks like.

I gave a suspicious brow when I heard "Move" thinking back to all the jokes of bad shows ruined by gimmicky motion games. Laughed pretty hard when they were dancing with the characters on screen!

That's a Move game alright. It and Square Enix nailed what I've come to expect from game conferences.

Unless Diablo 3 has cross platform MP, everything else was standard fair. Hardware is impressive, Killzone looks pretty good. Watch Dogs is A PC title for me. I'm still waiting for the killer app that will make the purchase worthwhile

i'm super impressed with sony so far, it really seems they learned their lesson (still need to know that price). the specs look great, the features look awesome and the controller seems pretty much the same old dual shock with a few tweaks.
kz and infamous look great, and i'm interested in knack. drive club is not my cup of tea, not much of a fan of cockpit driving in racing games.
most of the 3rd party stuff was great, and everything they showed is pretty much guaranteed to be multiplatform, so as long as it shows up on ps4 i'm okay with it.

still waiting for more news on gdc and e3, but i'm pretty sold on ps4. can't wait for more.

I apologise if this has been asked but did anyone get a screencap from the developer/publisher list? I was looking away at that point and only managed to catch Platinum (which I'm very excited about) and Dimps (I think).
