If it launches at that price, we better be getting something in the box we don't know of yet. Such as a 200GB SSD or at the very least a mic and something else. I

Yeah, it's 2013. Enough with the old-style, slower loading HDDs, especially in this area of demanding media (gaming). I'd gladly pay a premium for an option that has solid state. And I'm not sure Sony will give as much freedom this time again allowing users to put any HDD in as long as it's 2.5", that could run security risks in ways...and we know what happened this gen.

500 frame limit on Photoshop sort of had me stumped, but in the mean time I did this one. Pretty straight forward and easy (no head movement). My first ever GIF lol.

None of mine seem to be in there? :(

Nice one.

Will GAF servers be ready for the 20th?, I'd say shutdown the OT section that day, I also want a live chat with gaffers and cameras to see everyone's faces during the gran announcement.
And then I want to read all the inevitable meltdowns.

I'm guessing at the very least E3 level server load. OT and gaming community will have to go.

no. but they'll turn off avatar to help. i'm expecting it to die right after the sales talk.

No, this year for that conference, or even E3 we are not shutting down any place of GAF.

You know, we survived a Reddit front page so... :D

In order for an SSD to benefit game development it would have to be standard in every PS4. Thats why I would want them to include it. Yea you can mod your PS3 and put one in there, and for certain games it does improve performance(see Rage), but I think it would be a bit different if all devs developed their games with it in mind. Its all or nothing IMO.

True, there is currently negligible differences in current PS3 games even with SSD installed, but there is a noticable difference on the XMB and file management (deleting, copying, moving, etc.) as well as much faster HDD loading in general for a variety of tasks (taking in-game screenshots, which may or may not be a standard feature along with video next generation if rumors are to be believed).

I expect an instantaneous, snappy UI next generation. Some of the waiting present on both consoles, but especially the XMB, have been sometimes frustrating. That could easily be fixed with caching, but I believe reading current gen consoles can't handle that (in that area combined with everything else). With the RAM of next gen, this should not be an issue.

Playstation Meeting 2013 |OT| Show me your Kaz hands!

(also replaceable with "Show me your Kaz Gifs!" for lesser effect...)

There was some talk about them not wanting to do that due to the number 4 being an unlucky number related to death in Japan.
People should stop with this bullshit. If it's true, they why they released:
-Gran Turismo 4
-Final Fantasy 4
-Dragon Quest 4
-Resident Evil 4
-Street Fighter 4
-Mega Man 4
-Sonic 4
-Super Castlevania 4
-Metal Gear Solid 4
etc

It's going to be PS4. And if not, it will be for other reason.

It's possible. I think getting that out of the way early instead of E3 would probably be the smarter idea.

If they reveal the existence of the PS4, with potential mock up hardware on statage, a new controller, tech demo's from 1st party studios, and what Gaikai will really do going forward, what's left for E3? the price, the games, the final OS?

Playstation Meeting Bingo?

I'll go make one over the weekend.
I thought about that as well. I've got a bunch of PlayStation-themed vector files lying around that could be used for a template.

Seems like $50 to much to me. Based on the rumors of the tech inside. If it launches at that price, we better be getting something in the box we don't know of yet. Such as a 200GB SSD or at the very least a mic and something else. I think Sony will be packing an HDMI cord in the box regardless this time, as it probably only adds about $2-3 to the bom.

I was at my gf's aunt and uncle house not to long ago. His wife got him the Uncharted 3 bundle for xmas, and they just bought a 2k 50in LED TV, and they had the composite cables hooked up to the PS3, even though they had other HDMI cables in the house!! I was watching him play UC3 on this beautiful new tv in 480i! I was in disgust, eventually I couldn't take it any longer and told them what was going on, and fixed it for them.

But sheesh I wonder how many people never have had there PS3's in HD, just because the Composite cables are what Sony gives them in the box? Most people don't know any better, and I'm pretty sure my gf's uncle would have never hooked it up properly if I hadn't told him.

I bet this leads a lot of people to think 360 games are vastly superior just because they don't have the right cables hooked up.

Xbox has also never come with an HDMI cable, and stopped putting component cables in the box years ago. I worked gaming retail for 8 years. It does happen. A lot.

Also I think they should just call this thing PlayStation. Similar to the next Xbox. I feel like the name "PlayStation" has had diminishing exposure. The PS2 logo was "PS2" and everyone referred to it as such. PS3 tried to call it "PLAYSTATION 3" but then they rebranded the whole thing as PS3.

It needs to just be PlayStation, and they need to stress that it will be an upgradeable platform from now on (full backwards compatibility, which SHOULD be possible with the more common CPU architecture in PS4).

Plus, "PS4" just isn't sexy.

Please no. That joke is outdated, let's put something more recente and actually funny...

I dunno, I still think Sony's hubris with the PS3 is pretty funny, myself. The fumes from the stacks of PS2 money got to their heads, I think. Let's hope they take a more humble approach this time.

...Is it the 20th yet? This is taking forever.

I think e3 will be about final details and games. Im assuming the meeting will show off the new console, some of whatvit can do, an intro to gaikai and some games. Evolution, mm, and either gg or santa monica.

Sony would use E3 to show final details, what ps4 can do, more unannoumces features, and announcements by gg or santa monica (whichever didnt already announce), PD, ND, and other studios. This way they can get people talking and excites for new console and still use e3 to "wow" and create buzz and (if the games are good enough) take away some of the buzz from MS console (whixh would have been announces some time after feb. 20 to e3 date).

What im not sure about is the price. Would sony have people waiting several months for a price. Nintendo was way too slow about this info. But i dont think they would announce a price without showing off all the specs (otherwise people may spend several months bitchig that its not a good value). Im leaning towards e3 price and launch announcement date.

Also, id prefer it if they didnt name it ps4. This has been a pet peeve of mine. I dont want to have a ps12. It gets ridiculohs at some point, imo. Might as well go with "playstation". But, i see them doing ps4. That badluck means nothing to me (granted, im not japanese). But from what i can tell, japan pronounces it in english, no?

Didn't Yoshida specifically say last year that it was still a ps3 game?
Hmm... He clearly said: "The game is developed on PS3".
I'm not a native english speaker: does "on" have the same meaning as "for"?
To me it sounds like they kept on developing it ("on PS3")... while waiting for the PS4 devkits to be available.

Yes, but what's to stop them from making it a cross-gen title? Even better if they add cross buy support. Buy the PS3 version and get a free download code for the PS4 game.
I don't know... they said they ran into technical problems during the development (most likely RAM issues), I don't believe they are working on two versions of the same game for two platforms (and, based on the leaks, two very different platforms). I will be happy to be wrong though!
